Background / History
Naruto was born on the day of the Nine-Tails Rebellion. His parents, the Fourth Hokage and his wife, died during the disaster, and he grew up without knowing their identities. Despite repeatedly looking at the Fourth’s face on Hokage Rock—and even painting it during his pranks—he never realized it depicted his father 37 38 39.
As a child, Naruto was ostracized as the “Demon Fox.” Tsukasa Suou describes villagers refusing him purchases and throwing stones hard enough to make his head bleed. Naruto remembers Hiruzen Sarutobi bringing him food, providing money, and comforting him after bullying; these experiences underpin his fierce loyalty to the Third Hokage 37.
Before the combined escort mission, Naruto participated in Team 7’s mission to the Land of Waves. He proudly recalls that the country’s new bridge was named after him. Tsukasa Suou later questions whether the team’s intervention exceeded its original assignment 42.
Appearance
- Blond hair and blue eyes 24 37.
- Orange clothing with a spiral motif 39 47.
- Konoha forehead protector, identifying him as a village ninja 27.
Personality
Naruto is boisterous, emotionally direct, and quick to defend people he cares about. He insists on bringing Sasuke back to Konoha despite Sasuke’s defection, wants to stop Ranmaru’s abduction, and angrily confronts Tsukasa Suou after Koyuki is taken by the Snow Ninja 34 40 43.
His compassion can outpace his judgment. When he argues for saving Ranmaru, Tsukasa Suou challenges him to consider the innocent people Ranmaru helped Raiga bury alive. Naruto is left unable to answer. His attachment to Hiruzen is similarly shaken when Tsukasa Suou argues that the Hokage could have prevented his childhood mistreatment 37 40.
Naruto also demonstrates growing tactical awareness. Against Raiga, he combines a shadow-clone decoy with a stone transformation rather than meeting the attack directly, earning Kakashi’s approval. After repeated defeats by Tsukasa Suou, he attempts to use clones to restrain him instead of charging alone 31 43.
Abilities & Skills
Shadow Clone Technique
Naruto creates copies for deception, coordinated attacks, and battlefield support 31 34 35.
- Substitutes a clone for himself while hiding nearby as a transformed stone 31.
- Surrounds Kakuzu with dozens of clones attacking from multiple directions; some carry Rasengans 34.
- Uses clones to launch himself toward an airborne target 35.
- Holds off Fuyukuma Tōu with clones during the Snow Ninja attack 42.
- Numerical advantage is insufficient against Tsukasa Suou, who defeats his clone-assisted assault 43.
Transformation Technique
Naruto uses transformation for both combat deception and impersonation 31 43.
- Disguises himself as a stone to ambush Raiga with an uppercut 31.
- Replaces the kidnapped Koyuki during filming by transforming into her. His version exaggerates her appearance, prompting concern from the producer 43.
Rasengan
Naruto uses Rasengan in coordinated assaults against Kakuzu 34 35.
- Arms several shadow clones with Rasengans during a surrounding attack 34.
- Performs Spiraling Bullet Barrage, using clones to propel himself toward one of Kakuzu’s floating masks 35.
- The mask attack exposes his real body to Kakuzu’s concealed Water Gun, leaving him badly injured 35 36.
Nine-Tails Chakra and Uzumaki Constitution
Naruto possesses the Nine-Tails’ chakra and the recuperative constitution of the Uzumaki bloodline 38 40 49.
- Recovers considerable strength after the battle with Kakuzu 40.
- His stabbed shoulder nearly stops bleeding, and his facial swelling subsides shortly afterward 49.
- Severe emotional distress can trigger an uncontrolled release of ominous red chakra. Learning his parentage causes such an eruption, which Kakuzu suppresses with sealing jutsu 38.
- His recovery does not prevent incapacitation: Kakuzu’s Water Gun leaves him unable to rise, while chakra restriction and blood loss endanger him in the Land of Snow 36 45 47.
Unarmed Combat
Naruto combines close-range strikes with misdirection and sudden counterattacks 31 47.
- Attempts an uppercut against Raiga after exposing his clone decoy, although Raiga counters with a kick 31.
- Knocks Fubuki Kakuyoku unconscious with a punch to the jaw while wounded and held captive 47.
- Cannot overcome Tsukasa Suou’s physical defense: punching his protected shoulder numbs Naruto’s own wrist 40.
Relationships
- Minato Namikaze and Kushina — Parents. Naruto learns their identities from Tsukasa Suou rather than Kakashi, leaving him shocked and questioning his understanding of the Third Hokage 37 38.
- Kakashi Hatake — Teacher and mission leader. Kakashi recognizes Naruto’s tactical improvement but also acknowledges having neglected him during his childhood; after the parentage revelation, he resolves to take responsibility more seriously 31 37 39.
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — Trusted benefactor whom Naruto calls “Grandpa Third.” Naruto defends him because of the food, money, and comfort he provided, rejecting Tsukasa Suou’s allegation that this dependence was deliberately cultivated 37.
- Sasuke Uchiha — Former teammate whom Naruto remains determined to bring home. Sasuke initially ignores his calls but later spends his remaining strength attacking Kakuzu when Naruto is subdued 34 38.
- Sakura Haruno — Teammate who rushes to his aid after Kakuzu injures him and carries him back toward the Life Curry House 36 39.
- Tsukasa Suou / Arasaka Si — Mission client and recurring adversary. He initially defends Naruto against Koyuki’s mockery, but later reveals his parentage, attacks his faith in Hiruzen, and repeatedly defeats him during confrontations 25 36 37 40 43.
- Kazahana Koyuki / Fujikaze Yukie — Escort client and the actress behind Naruto’s admired Princess Gale. Her mockery shatters his idealized image of her, yet he continues trying to protect her 25 26 42 43.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Combined Mission and Battle with Kakuzu
Tsunade assigns Naruto, Sakura, Neji, and Tenten to Kakashi for two combined missions: eliminating Raiga Kurosuki and escorting Fujikaze Yukie’s film crew to the Land of Snow. During the journey, Naruto approaches Yukie as a fan and discovers that her real personality differs sharply from Princess Gale’s 24 25.
At the Life Curry House, the team encounters the consequences of the Kurosuki gang’s rule. Raiga’s night attack escalates when Kakuzu and Sasuke arrive. Naruto counters Raiga’s ambush, then joins the assault against Kakuzu while calling for Sasuke to return to Konoha. His attempt to destroy a mask ends with a devastating Water Gun hit 27 28 31 34 35 36.
The confrontation shifts when Kakashi identifies their client as Tsukasa Suou, the villager responsible for exposing Hiruzen’s administration. Naruto attacks him in defense of the Third Hokage. Tsukasa Suou knocks him down, challenges his interpretation of his childhood, and reveals his parents’ identities. Naruto’s distress releases Nine-Tails chakra, forcing Kakuzu to seal it and render him unconscious 36 37 38.
Land of Snow Escort
After recovering, Naruto argues that Sasuke must be stopped from taking Ranmaru. Tsukasa Suou rebukes him for overlooking Ranmaru’s involvement in Raiga’s killings 40.
In the Land of Snow, Naruto helps defend Koyuki from the Snow Ninja. Kakashi calls off the fight after Tsukasa Suou warns that intervening in the country’s internal conflict exceeds their escort assignment. Furious over Koyuki’s capture, Naruto attacks Tsukasa Suou with clones and is beaten. He subsequently impersonates Koyuki to help the crew continue filming 42 43.
Naruto is later held hostage with a Chakra Restrictor. When Tsukasa Suou kills Kazahana Dōtō, Fubuki Kakuyoku retaliates by stabbing Naruto’s right shoulder. Naruto knocks her unconscious but nearly collapses from blood loss. Sandayu initially threatens the Konoha group before beginning to bandage him; by the end of the confrontation, Naruto’s natural recovery has substantially reduced the bleeding 45 46 47 49.
