The Orcs could summon demons, so they certainly knew a great deal about them. But the Elves were hardly ignorant of demons either. Their Mages, renowned for their extensive learning, might know far more about demons than most ordinary Orcs.
These Mages therefore knew exactly how to deal with the various kinds of demons, and which offensive spells to serve up to each type.
The Infernals received mostly Frostbolts. Their fire resistance was extremely high, so fire spells did little damage to them, but frost spells hurt them the most. Not only did the spells extinguish their green fel fire, turning them into blackened rock golems, but the lingering frost damage also slowed their movements. Some were even frozen in place, unable to move.
The Voidwalkers received mostly Arcane Missiles, because they moved the slowest. Their high physical defense did them no good. With the Rangers supporting the attack with Concussive Shots, they were practically crawling, while countless Arcane Missiles hammered them like machine-gun fire, making them howl in agony.
The Felguards had originally been following behind the Orcs. When they saw the fighting break out ahead, they roared and took great strides past the Orcs, charging toward the Elves. But they were unlucky too. The Rangers' Concussive Shots slowed their movements, and worse still, the fire Mages unleashed their great Fireballs just then, burning them with unbearable pain.
Their heavy armor offered little protection against fire. On the contrary, the additional searing damage from the fire spells heated their thick plate armor until it became a dreadful thing pressed against their bodies, constantly scorching them.
There were too few demons and far too many Elf Mages. Ten or a dozen Mages attended to each demon, sometimes even twenty, while seemingly no one paid any attention to the Orcs.
