But Yu Lin Bloodhawk certainly could not throw the baby out with the bathwater. He could not abandon his research into the World of the Dead simply because he feared that contact with it might cause problems.
Now that Jerick had said they would have to study the World of the Dead to understand death knights thoroughly, he had Yu Lin Bloodhawk's full attention.
"Why do you say that?" Yu Lin Bloodhawk asked.
"My lord, strictly speaking, these captive orc death knights aren't pure death knights. They have two different systems of power within them. One is the fel power used by demons, a magical power belonging to chaos. The other is the power of death used by the dead. Death power falls under dark magic and belongs to an ordered system of magical power.
"Although all magic can theoretically be reproduced through arcane simulation, there are major differences once you examine the individual branches. I believe these orc death knight prisoners of war possess both powers because, before they died, either they themselves or someone else used some method that allowed them to retain their abilities after death. Their death power, however, should be an ability they acquired after becoming undead," Jerick said.
"You mean they have twice the power they had while they were alive?" Yu Lin Bloodhawk asked.
"I can't be entirely certain of that yet. I also want to study how these two powers can be converted into one another, and whether that conversion is temporary or permanent."
Jerick shook his head and said, "More importantly, I still haven't figured out why these orc death knights suddenly acquired this ability when they changed from warlocks into death knights."
"Haven't those orc death knights been cooperating with you? Don't even they know where this power came from?"
