Yu Lin Bloodhawk now understood why the quilboar had not blocked the cave entrance. With an opening that large, sealing it quickly enough to keep the smoke out without using magic would have been far too difficult.
If these quilboar had possessed some capable spellcasters like the high elves did, it might have been possible. But seeing them use stones to block the passage made it clear that they had no mages of that caliber.
They could only retreat deeper into the cave and find a narrower place to seal off. Otherwise, everyone doing the work would probably have succumbed to the smoke before the barricade was finished.
"Where did they block the passage? Let's go take a look," Yu Lin Bloodhawk said.
"The left branch goes deeper, while the right is shallower. Which way would you like to go, my lord?" the Household Guard officer asked.
"Let's take a look at the shallower side," Yu Lin Bloodhawk said.
"This way, my lord." The Household Guard officer gestured and led the way with two soldiers. As he walked, he explained, "About sixty meters farther in, there's a relatively narrow stretch. The quilboar blocked the passage there with stones."
There was actually no need for him to clear the way, since dozens of ranger soldiers had already taken up defensive positions ahead. Still, as the officer in charge, he personally brought two capable men along to lead them.
And indeed, nothing happened along the way. The quilboar's barricade was as crude as the quilboar themselves: a haphazard pile of stones of all sizes, with the occasional scrap of torn cloth or filthy, tattered animal hide wedged between them.
But on reflection, that made sense. There was only so much available inside the cave. Apart from stones, they could hardly find much
