A few thousand might not sound like many, but seeing an army of several thousand on the march would change anyone's mind-especially when several thousand cavalry were marching through the Valley of Trials.
Across the sparsely vegetated red-earth wilderness, Kolkar centaurs marched over hills and plains. The red dust they kicked up blotted out the sky and sun. From a distance, their marching column looked like a colossal red-and-yellow dragon rampaging across the wasteland.
Infantry marched differently from cavalry. Foot soldiers kept relatively close together, while mounted troops left more space between individuals. Infantry generally needed to fight in coordination, whereas cavalry needed room to maneuver.
Regardless, a regular, well-trained army would march in orderly ranks. These invading centaurs clearly fell short of that standard. Several thousand of them spread haphazardly across the broad wilderness. Though the sight could make someone's scalp prickle, their military discipline gave Yu Lin Bloodhawk little reason to fear them.
At that moment, Yu Lin Bloodhawk and his Gryphon Rider Bodyguard stood atop a high red-earth ridge, watching the distant centaurs march toward the quilboar cave.
"Their equipment is so primitive!" Yu Lin Bloodhawk said with a laugh to the Gryphon Rider Bodyguard beside him.
"About the same as the trolls in the Hinterlands used to have. Even those trolls might have had better equipment!" the Gryphon Rider Bodyguard said with a laugh. "Still, these centaurs look pretty strong!"
"What the hell is strength good for? Without decent equipment, they can be as strong as they like. They might manage against quilboar as dirt-poor as themselves, but against our high elf rangers' poisoned arrows? If we want them lying down, they won't be standing." Yu Lin Bloodhawk curled his lip in disdain.
"I reckon that's also why the night elves beat them into the dirt
