Cangnan City, southwestern border.
Wang Quan swept through the dense bushes like a ghost, the sound of rushing water growing louder and louder as he drew very close to his destination.
Rushing out of the thickets, a small, shimmering lake lay quietly in the valley, and a person stood upon its rippling surface.
It was a man wearing a black tailcoat, his long hair falling loosely behind him, a purple iris brooch pinned to his chest. An alluring smile hung upon his exquisite face, making him look like an aristocratic gentleman of British style.
Wang Quan stopped at the lakeside, his brow furrowed, his eyes carrying an indescribable disgust.
"Bastard, you're not dead yet!"
"How unpleasant!"
At these words, the man smiled politely, looking gentle and refined, his magnetic voice carrying across the calm water: "Old friend, you're still alive, how could I bear to die?"
"What, you didn't like the gift I sent you!"
"I didn't expect it to make you even stronger!"
"Tsk tsk tsk!"
"What a pity!"
The man seemed to have discovered something, shaking his head helplessly.
Wang Quan pressed a hand to the hilt of his blade, having no intention of making a move. He could tell that the person before him was merely a clone.
"I wish you an early death!"
"No, no, no!"
"Before I kill you, I won't die!" the alluring man said with extreme certainty.
The moment his voice fell, his right arm shattered like glass, without any bloody scene, as if it truly were just glass.
"Oh dear!"
"I'm about to be caught by those madmen!" The man's remaining left arm crossed his chest as he bowed in apology, "Pardon me, I must take my leave!"
The next second, the entire man shattered apart.
"Humph!" Wang Quan let out a cold snort and spat at the place where the man had vanished.
"Damn bastard!"
"I curse you to have no seasoning packet in your instant noodles, to choke every time you drink water, and for it to rain every time you step outside..."
Grumbling, Wang Quan returned to Cangnan City, where he happened to run into the members of the 136 Squad returning from a mission.
"You don't look too good. Were you hurt?" Zhao Kongcheng asked with concern upon seeing Wang Quan's dark expression.
"No!" Wang Quan shook his head. "I ran into a sickening asshole."
"Did you find the culprit?" Chen Muye asked.
"Just a clone, the main body isn't there, no need to worry!"
"That's good, Cangnan urban area is fine too!"
"Yeah!"
"Right, what are we eating tonight?"
"What about our promised extra food!" Wang Quan changed the subject, returning to his usual cheerful appearance.
"Extra!"
"Definitely extra!"
"Put it on my tab!"
Following this incident, Cangnan returned to its former peace, and everyone went about their lives step by step.
Time flew by in a flash, and the day for the Night Watchers' new recruit training was almost here.
Lin Qiye walked to the captain's office door and knocked gently.
"Captain, I'm here!"
"Come in!"
Pusshing the door open, Chen Muye was drinking tea, and he raised his head to glance at Lin Qiye.
"Tomorrow the training begins. According to past practice, the location is in Upper Capital. You and the young master of the Baili family are going together, and Wang Quan will accompany you. I'm quite reassured."
"Go buy some daily necessities this afternoon. Upper Capital is not like Cangnan, the cost of living is ridiculously expensive."
"Oh right, I'll pay." Chen Muye said with a twinge of heartache; as captain, he had to make some kind of gesture.
"Captain, Pangpang is covering it, so you don't have to bleed money!" Seeing the captain's pained expression, Lin Qiye was caught between laughter and tears.
"Damn!"
"It's good to have money!"
"If you can't buy things, training is bound to involve injuries. Come to me for some medicine then; it's definitely better than anything on the market!"
"And listen, take good care of yourself over there, don't disgrace our 136 Squad!"
"If anyone bullies you, let me know. I still have some connections in Upper Capital, and I can call people up to kick their ass!"
"Though you can also appropriately drop Wang Quan's name, it's definitely effective!"
Chen Muye chattered away like an old mother for a full hour. Lin Qiye didn't feel annoyed at all; instead, he felt very at ease.
"Go buy groceries with Hongying and the others, we're having hot pot tonight!"
"Go on, go!" Chen Muye waved his hand.
"Thank you, Captain!" Lin Qiye bowed slightly, his tone sincere. During these days, the captain had taken good care of him.
As the setting sun sank in the west, Lin Qiye sat outside the Peace Office, dazedly gazing at the red glow in the distant sky.
Unconsciously, he smiled, and his smile was radiant, yet a faint sorrow was mixed between his brows.
"Are we leaving..."
As he spoke, he looked in the direction of the old district.
At that moment, several figures blocked the afterglow, and Baili Pangpang's voice rang out:
"Brother Qiye, what are you doing?"
Lin Qiye recovered and looked over. Baili Pangpang and Wang Quan were standing together; the two of them had come for the banquet.
"Nothing!"
"Missing home, huh!" Wang Quan hit the nail on the head. "Cry, go ahead and cry. A real man doesn't easily shed tears, except when he reaches a place of sorrow..."
"For some reason, just thinking about my rookie disciple crying makes Master want to laugh."
Lin Qiye:"..."
The faint sorrow was disrupted by Wang Quan's wretched antics, and Lin Qiye now just wanted to beat someone up.
"Don't be sentimental. Once we get to Upper Capital, I'll treat you to good food and drinks!"
"Let's go, go, go!"
"Dinner is served, Qiye!"
Baili Pangpang threw an arm around Lin Qiye's shoulder, and the two walked into the Peace Office together.
Arriving at the basement living room of the Office, the bronze hot pot was already bubbling and steaming.
Chen Muye walked out of the kitchen carrying freshly sliced mutton, calling for the three of them to sit down.
The dinner ended amidst laughter and chatter-very happy, very wonderful.
With the moon climbing up the treetops, Lin Qiye stood on the villa's balcony, quietly enjoying the night breeze.
Suddenly, an upside-down head entered his vision, and he cried out in fright.
"Holy shit!"
"You damn punk, trying to scare people in the middle of the night!"
"Do you want to go home and take a look?" Wang Quan asked drunkenly, holding a bottle of wine that didn't spill even when inverted.
He had been drinking to his heart's content with Zhao Kongcheng today, so he deliberately hadn't sobered up; otherwise, someone of his realm couldn't get drunk.
"Better not..."
Before Lin Qiye could refuse, Wang Quan had already hoisted him up and set off.
Passing through the city's neon lights, in the blink of an eye they arrived in front of that low house in the old district.
Lin Qiye froze, standing before the door and hesitating.
"Such a dawdling big man." Wang Quan rolled his eyes at him and used a small trick. The door quietly opened, and taking advantage of Lin Qiye's lack of attention, he shoved him inside.
"You..."
Under the soft moonlight, looking at the home in his memories, everything was so peace-inducing.
Being able to take one more look before leaving would already be very good.
Suddenly, Aunt's bedroom door opened.
Lin Qiye stood in the living room, expectation in his eyes, yet panic in his heart.
To his surprise, however, Aunt didn't see him, yet he was standing right there in the living room.
Thinking of this, he glanced back at Wang Quan, who was leaning against the door frame gulping down wine. It was definitely this guy's ability.
This was not any sort of invisibility, but rather another use of the domain. When someone possessing spiritual power entered the domain, Wang Quan could use precise manipulation to make that person unaffected by Unlimited Void for a short time.
The manifestation of this operation was that the person entering the domain could turn invisible.
Sometimes, familial affection is a very magical thing.
Lin Qiye's aunt stood frozen in place. She gazed at the empty living room and asked for no apparent reason: "Xiao Qi, is that you?"
This question made Lin Qiye's eyes sting with acidity, and he silently nodded.
Go home and take a look; catching a single glance was enough.
