Background / History

Hinata begins as the eldest daughter and expected heir of the Hyūga Clan. At six, she considers herself ordinary and inadequate beside the branch family’s children. Her timidity, repeated bullying by commoner children, and inability to meet Hiashi’s expectations leave her isolated and deeply insecure. 6

Her path changes when Jiraiya gives her a Mount Myōboku summoning scroll and personally forms a contract with her. The responsibility of protecting the scroll gives Hinata the resolve to resist her bullies rather than submit to them. 6

Tahm’s arrival at the Hyūga estate becomes the turning point of her training. He challenges Hiashi’s harsh treatment, trains alongside Hinata, and gives her a source of encouragement that she had not experienced within her family. Her fighting ability and confidence rise sharply; she reaches the Hyūga tournament final before being severely injured by Neji’s Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms. Tahm heals her, then also heals Neji at Hinata’s request. 11 14 15

Hinata later trains with Naruto and Sakura under Tahm, mastering chakra-control exercises and the Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms. Though Sakura’s aptitude and Tahm’s praise make her jealous, Hinata ultimately voices her fear of being left behind and resolves to become strong enough to stand beside Tahm rather than hide behind him. 21 22 33

Appearance

Hinata initially has the refined bearing expected of the Hyūga Main Family: elegant posture, careful manners, and a reserved demeanor. Her original dark, short hair and Byakugan later give way to azure Tenseigan eyes after her bloodline evolves. 11 115 123

  • Azure-blue Tenseigan eyes following her Byakugan’s evolution; they retain the Byakugan’s perception while gaining gravity manipulation. 124
  • Orange Sage Mode markings around her eyes; unlike standard Mount Myōboku Sage Mode, her pupils do not become frog-like. 119
  • A pale-green chakra cloak and black Truth-Seeking Balls while using advanced Sage power. 120
  • A large white Tenseigan sphere, nicknamed Big Rice, which she rides and uses as an external chakra source. 121 181
  • In Ten-Tails Jinchūriki form, she manifests white hair, short horns, a tomoe-patterned white robe, black limb coverings, and a black jade scepter. 336
  • After awakening the Rinne Sharingan, she can conceal her horns, silver hair, and forehead eye while retaining her white robe, scepter, and hidden Truth-Seeking Balls. 343

Personality

Hinata begins gentle, timid, and painfully conscious of her perceived failures. She avoids conflict even when bullied and initially believes that she has disappointed her father beyond repair. 6

Tahm’s support gradually changes her into a determined and more expressive fighter. She seeks his approval after victories, becomes openly jealous when others receive his attention, and eventually states that she wants to stand at his side as an equal. 14 21 33

Her compassion remains central to her character: despite Neji’s brutal treatment of her, she asks Tahm to heal him. As her strength grows, however, she gains a calm authority and a willingness to be ruthless toward criminals who traffic, abduct, or slaughter civilians. 15 206

  • Retains shyness in public even after becoming overwhelmingly powerful. 124 126
  • Develops confidence and battle-mindedness under Tahm’s tutelage, including his habit of declaring techniques and taunting opponents. 219 251
  • Treats overwhelming power as a responsibility to protect others, including her younger self and the people endangered by the Tailed Beasts. 380

Abilities & Skills

Hyūga Gentle Fist

Hinata is trained in the Hyūga Clan’s chakra-point striking style and develops from a passive defender into a capable close-range combatant.

  • Channels chakra through her palms to disrupt an opponent’s meridians and chakra circulation. 14
  • Learns Eight Trigrams Thirty-Two Palms, matching a level associated with Neji. 22
  • Uses Eight Trigrams Vacuum Palm, including Sage Art-enhanced versions capable of striking at range. 123 157
  • Employs Eight Trigrams Overlapping Palm and her self-created Revolving Heaven Field against Hyūga Jōnin. 125

Tenseigan and Gravity Manipulation

Hinata’s evolved Byakugan grants her high-level perception and precise control over gravitational vectors.

  • Redirects and accelerates incoming kunai and shuriken in midair. 157
  • Nullifies Nagato’s Attractive Pull, reverses his repulsive force, and defeats his Chibaku Tensei through superior gravity control. 219
  • Creates large-scale gravitational fields to lift allies, restrain enemies, and enable aerial attacks. 181
  • Manipulates thousands of individual flower petals simultaneously while suspended in midair. 268
  • Uses pseudo-Chibaku Tensei to create and throw a rock sphere roughly thirty meters in diameter. 255

Big Rice

Big Rice is Hinata’s giant white Tenseigan sphere and primary external chakra platform.

  • Allows her to fly, observe battlefields from altitude, and serve as a mobile artillery platform. 157 175
  • Supplies the chakra used for her most destructive gravity and Tenseigan techniques. 121 251
  • Can be disrupted if her chakra connection to it is severed. 121

Sage Art

Hinata is an exceptional Mount Myōboku Sage who can enter Sage Mode almost instantly.

  • Perfectly fuses natural energy with her chakra without developing frog-like features. 119
  • Gains substantial increases to speed, physical force, chakra quality, and technique output. 119 121
  • Uses Sage Art: Spiraling Psychic Field, combining Vacuum Palm with Tenseigan gravity manipulation. 181
  • Achieves Perfect Sage Mode, a level that astonishes Jiraiya and other veteran ninja. 136
  • Her youth and limited mental endurance initially restrict how long she can maintain high-intensity output. 121

Tenseigan Techniques

Hinata uses the Tenseigan for wide-area destructive and defensive techniques.

  • Tenseigan Cannon — destroys the Xuanyuan Mercenaries’ hideout in a single blast. 136
  • Golden Wheel Reincarnation Explosion — creates a massive canyon and counters the combined advance of Six Paths Madara’s forces. 219 367
  • Eighty Gods Vacuum Attack — manifests eighty enormous chakra palms capable of shattering a sealing barrier and pulverizing obstacles beyond it. 251
  • Repulsive Force — blocks the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path’s punch and deflects projectile attacks. 157 367

Ten-Tails Jinchūriki Powers

After receiving the Ten-Tails, Hinata’s body and chakra reserves undergo a fundamental transformation.

  • Controls the Ten-Tails directly; unlike ordinary Jinchūriki, she faces no consciousness conflict because the Ten-Tails lacks an independent will. 336
  • Possesses an internal, effectively inexhaustible chakra source rather than relying solely on Big Rice. 336
  • Gains extreme vitality, eternal youth, and physical abilities far beyond her former chakra-artillery fighting style. 336
  • Can manifest and command the complete Ten-Tails in battle. 367
  • Subdues the Nine Tailed Beasts and the Super Ten-Tails with a single command. 380

Rinne Sharingan and Truth-Seeking Balls

Hinata’s completed Ōtsutsuki power includes the Rinne Sharingan and advanced Truth-Seeking Ball control.

  • Awakens a forehead Rinne Sharingan when the Ten-Tails regains its complete form. 343
  • Forms a black jade scepter from a Truth-Seeking Ball. 336
  • Uses Truth-Seeking Balls offensively and defensively; their presence shocks Six Paths Madara. 120 367
  • Can conceal her Rinne Sharingan and other obvious Ōtsutsuki traits when not fighting at full power. 343

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Mount Myōboku summoning contract — received through Jiraiya’s scroll and the foundation of her connection to Mount Myōboku. 6
  • Big Rice — giant white Tenseigan sphere used for flight, chakra supply, gravity manipulation, and long-range attacks. 121 181
  • Black jade scepter — a weapon formed from a Truth-Seeking Ball in her Ten-Tails Jinchūriki form. 336
  • Truth-Seeking Balls — black orbs used as shields, weapons, and components for transformed equipment. 120 343

  • Kakashi Hatake — Leader of Team Kakashi. He is assigned Hinata, Sasuke, and Karin, then quickly learns that Hinata’s strength rivals Kage-level fighters. 156 157
  • Karin Uzumaki — Teammate and close friend. They combine Hinata’s gravity manipulation with Karin’s Adamantine Sealing Chains in battle. 157 181
  • Sasuke Uchiha — Team Kakashi teammate. Hinata’s gravity manipulation enables Sasuke’s accelerated Raikiri strike against Sasori. 156 181
  • Sakura Haruno — Friend and early training rival. Hinata’s jealousy of Sakura’s talent and Tahm’s praise motivates her to improve. 21 22
