Geography and Environment
- Scale: Its lands are no smaller than the Immortal Domain, and in some respects surpass it 144.
- Cultivation conditions: Great Dao laws visibly manifest in the sky, making them easier to comprehend. Mu Chen judges its cultivation environment superior to the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, which in turn surpasses the Great Thousand World 122.
- Terrain: Regions include volcanic mountain ranges inhabited by flame-commanding, scaled races and poisonous swamps inhabited by many-eyed, many-legged creatures 122.
- World barrier: The realm possesses a surrounding barrier on which Mu Chen later inscribes the formation used to refine it 144.
World Tree
The World Tree is the Foreign Domain’s foundation, with roots entwined around the world’s origin 144.
- Its bronze-like bark bears natural Great Dao patterns; its branches reach through layers of the void, supporting stars and phantoms of newborn worlds 122 144.
- Its leaves are as broad as continents and contain dense worldly origin essence 122.
- Although rooted deep within the realm, it projects its Dao image across the entire sky and distributes essence that nourishes the Foreign Domain 122 144.
- It is one of the realm’s most ancient beings. Even Immortal Kings are reluctant to provoke it 144.
Notable Locations
| Location | Description |
|---|---|
| Frontier stronghold | A military border zone with floating war fortresses, extensive defensive works, clan patrols, and five Immortals. Mu Chen destroys it during his first entry 120. |
| Rebuilt frontier | Beast-head-shaped fortresses aim dark cannon mouths toward the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands. Sealing formations, Immortal garrisons, mounted Supreme patrols, and Immortal King surveillance protect the rebuilt border 122. |
| Crimson Sand Dunes | Mu Chen emerges behind these dunes, away from patrol routes, during his concealed return 122. |
| Immortal Platform Mountain | A cultivation site prized by immortal traditions and Emperor Clans for strengthening primordial spirits. One legend claims it formed from an Immortal King’s severed head 122. |
| Burial Spirit Abyss | A dangerous region filled year-round with Soul-Eroding Netherwind, which corrodes primordial spirits and spiritual power. Its chaotic essence interferes with detection arts 123. |
| Gateway city | A city at one of the realm’s entrances, breached by Mu Chen during his final invasion 143. |
| Central divine temple | An ancient, pale-gold temple at the heart of the realm. It houses the Origin Ancient Artifact and becomes the surviving Immortal Kings’ final rallying point 143. |
Border with the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands
- Heavenly Abyss: An independent zone between the two worlds, formed from interwoven spatial barriers. Mortal-Dao beings can enter, but Immortal-level beings and above are drawn into the abyss upon entry 118.
- Imperial Pass: A heavily fortified bulwark defending the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands against the Foreign Domain 117.
- Primordial Imperial City: A forward defensive position whose dwindling population of wounded elders and children continues resisting foreign attacks 118 132.
- Cross-realm rejection: The Nine Heavens and Ten Lands rejects foreign beings, restricting their ability to cross over. The Immortal-Refining Pot can briefly overcome this suppression if awakened at sufficient cost 125.
Inhabitants and Ruling Powers
The Foreign Domain’s races are not permanently united. They maintain separate territories and customs, wage wars, devour one another, and form alliances. Against external enemies such as the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands, they temporarily unite under a higher will 122.
- Emperor Clans: Ancient lineages whose descendants inherit powerful ancestral arts. Their young cultivators use sites such as Immortal Platform Mountain 122 123.
- Wushang Emperor Clan: One of the oldest Emperor Clans, renowned for Spiritual Power Immunity, also described as being impervious to all techniques 120.
- Military forces: Armies include clan prodigies, veteran cultivators, Supremes, Immortals, war chariots, and savage beasts 120 129.
- Gu Tribe: Entered the Foreign Domain under the appearance of genuine defection. Only the Gu Ancestor knew that the infiltration had been ordered by the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands 131 132.
Notable Figures
- Kundi — One of the strongest beings in the realm’s history, and effectively its foremost contemporary expert apart from ancient figures who had departed for the Boundary Sea. His search for a seed capable of unlocking the Origin Ancient Artifact helped drive the invasions 143.
- Wushang — An Immortal King wielding a Bronze War Halberd, feared for his immunity to magical techniques. He repels Mu Chen’s first incursion but is captured alive during the final invasion 120 122 143.
- An Lan — An Immortal King revered as an undefeated ancestor and god of war. He leads the assault on the Imperial Pass and ultimately dies during the Gu Ancestor’s intervention 129 130 131.
- Yu Tuo — An Immortal King who protects the foreign army during An Lan’s battle. He escapes the battlefield with Wushang while gravely wounded 129 131.
- Qing Ze — An Immortal King involved in the Great Scarlet Heaven operation; killed by Mu Chen after the sealed ancient world is opened 124 125 126.
- Yin Yin — A Quasi-Immortal King from a race subordinate to the Wushang Emperor Clan. His death contributes to the realm’s heightened frontier vigilance 119 120 122.
- Gu Ancestor — A concealed agent whose sacrifice destroys multiple Immortal Kings and the invading army. Mu Chen later publicly clears his name 131 132.
History
Ancient Conquests and Infiltration
The Foreign Domain expanded into vast portions of the Nine Heavens, seizing territory and driving out or slaughtering its original inhabitants. Its earlier campaigns included a disastrous battle in a sealed ancient world where the powerful ancestor Luo Mo died; the foreign forces later returned to uncover that battlefield’s secrets 125 137.
At the end of the Ancient Immortal Era, Immortal King Without End and Immortal King of Reincarnation ordered the Gu Ancestor to infiltrate the Foreign Domain with his tribe. To make the defection convincing, he killed former comrades and sealed his own true memories. Those memories returned only after nearly half an era 131 132.
Mu Chen’s First Incursion
Seeking a suitable place for a breakthrough, Mu Chen traveled toward the Foreign Domain through the Imperial Pass. On the border battlefield, he disrupted foreign efforts to build a formation that would destroy the Heavenly Abyss and admit their Immortals. He then killed a foreign Supreme, an Immortal, and the Quasi-Immortal King Yin Yin while completing his immortal ascension 116 117 118 119 120.
After becoming a True Immortal, Mu Chen entered the realm and annihilated its frontier stronghold, killing all five stationed Immortals. He dispersed an Immortal King’s manifested attack, but withdrew to the Great Thousand World when Wushang appeared in person 120.
Concealed Return and Great Scarlet Heaven
Five years later, Mu Chen returned using the Heavenly Scripture of Tribulation Transcendence to evade the rebuilt frontier’s surveillance. He abducted eight prodigies from Immortal Platform Mountain to study their ancestral arts. After killing them, he lured four Immortal Kings into destroying the Burial Spirit Abyss while he killed and seized a Wushang Clan Immortal elsewhere 122 123.
The Foreign Domain subsequently assaulted Great Scarlet Heaven and opened the sealed ancient battlefield using Luo Mo’s remnant blood. Mu Chen killed the expedition’s experts and later slew Immortal King Qing Ze, prompting several years of reduced foreign aggression 124 125 126 129.
Assault on the Imperial Pass
The Foreign Domain eventually launched a full-scale invasion led by An Lan. When Mu Chen nearly killed him, Yu Tuo, Wushang, and other Immortal Kings intervened with the Immortal-Refining Pot to surround Mu Chen 129 130.
The Gu Ancestor revealed his allegiance and sacrificed himself while Mu Chen’s incarnations fought alongside him. An Lan was destroyed, the foreign army was annihilated, and Wushang escaped with a nearly dead Yu Tuo. Mu Chen later credited the Gu Ancestor with destroying four Immortal Kings 131 132.
Black mist subsequently awakened an Immortal Gate within the Heavenly Abyss, permanently sealing the passage between the realms. The war was declared over, although the sealing formation would gradually drain the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands 133.
Renewed Invasion and Collapse
A thousand years later, foreign forces opened a new passage that bypassed the Imperial Pass. The invasion sought the key to the Origin Ancient Artifact and brought the Immortal-Refining Pot with Kundi sleeping inside. Mu Chen erased the invading force, killed its Immortal King, and sealed the pot before Kundi could fully awaken 142.
After refining Kundi, Mu Chen followed the passage’s traces into the Foreign Domain. He killed its defending Immortal Kings, captured Wushang, and hunted down fleeing kings. The survivors gathered at the central temple and summoned a demonic shadow, but Mu Chen eliminated them and sealed the Origin Ancient Artifact 143.
Destruction and Refinement
Mu Chen used the Eternal Years Bright Tribulation Body to inscribe formation patterns upon the world barrier in the past, completing a hundred thousand years of preparation in an instant. His Supreme Formation, based on the Great Beginning Foundation-Casting Scripture, then began converting the realm’s land and laws into origin power for his inner world 144.
The World Tree awakened to resist, but Mu Chen suppressed and uprooted it within a dozen breaths. Over the following ten thousand years, the formation consumed the entire Foreign Domain and its surviving inhabitants until no land remained 144.
The absorbed World Tree’s power produced a silver World Tree within Mu Chen’s inner world, stabilizing and advancing its laws. The resulting power strengthened his body and primordial spirit as he sought to transcend the King realm and become an Emperor 144.
Associated Artifacts and Rewards
- Origin Ancient Artifact — Kept in the central divine temple. Kundi studied it for ages, and the search for its unlocking seed motivated the realm’s campaigns against the Nine Heavens and Ten Lands 142 143.
- Immortal-Refining Pot — A weapon capable of briefly overcoming cross-realm suppression. It later carries the sleeping Kundi into the renewed invasion; Mu Chen ultimately refines both 125 142 143.
- Yellow Court Scripture — Mu Chen’s check-in reward for entering the Foreign Domain. It tempers the soul, strengthens the primordial spirit, and improves comprehension 120.
