Dazzling green X-Ray Lasers crossed tens of millions of kilometers in an instant and slammed into the Plasteel Armor of the Zirick Cooperative's flagship. The searing energy melted through the armor, then breached it before fully dissipating, entering the hull and leaving a gaping hole dripping molten metal inside.
"Flagship under attack! An M Slot X-Ray Laser from an XT-489 Extermination Unit destroyer hit a crew compartment! No casualties reported!"
Brown Bird reported. They led the destroyer's Damage Control Team and were responsible for emergency repairs during combat.
"Fix it!"
So focused on assessing the battlefield, the Zirick supreme commander had no mental capacity left for anything else and could no longer issue complete orders.
The damage control leader proceeded with repairs according to the established plan. The damaged section had sealed itself the instant the hull lost pressure, awaiting emergency repairs with quick-setting material to patch the breach and prevent further air leaks.
Fortunately, although they had taken an X-Ray Laser hit, it had only struck a crew compartment, nothing particularly important. At worst, the crew would have to sleep in the corridors.
Neither side knew the weak points of the other's ships, leaving their attacks somewhat haphazard.
The commander kept clawing at their fluffy brown feathers, visibly agitated.
When surrounded, they had ordered some resistance, but soon realized their disadvantage was growing. They had to find a way to reverse that trend.
The XT-489 Extermination Unit's fleet had formed a formation impenetrable from the front, with large numbers of Torpedo Ships at its center. Any vessel attempting a frontal assault would face a sea of torpedoes. Torpedo Ships were specifically designed to attack stellar bases and large vessels, after all; the larger the target, the greater their damage bonus.
