After watching the anime, I wanted to write Naraku/Kikyo fanfic, but after reading the manga, I wanted to write Inuyasha/Kikyo fanfic.
If Kikyo's feelings for Inuyasha in the anime were a fifty-fifty mix of love and hate, or even seventy percent hate and thirty percent love, then in the manga, they were seventy percent love and thirty percent hate. Inuyasha was also more attached to Kikyo in the manga, whereas in the anime, he very clearly leaned toward Kagome.
It wasn't really incomprehensible. Takahashi's original intention might have been a central storyline with two female leads and one male lead, meaning both Kikyo and Kagome were heroines. But to draw a clearer distinction between the lead and supporting characters, the anime cut Kikyo's scenes, making her seem more extreme and Kagome more likable.
Especially in the early anime-I seriously suspected the head writer back then was a Kagome fan!! Look how badly they demonized Kikyo!!
I always felt that the earlier and later parts of the anime weren't drawn by the same people. Even the characters looked different, especially Kikyo and Sesshomaru. The difference was so obvious. They weren't completely different people, but they really didn't look quite the same...
Let's analyze the scene in anime episodes 47 and 48 and manga volume 18, where Kikyo was hunted by the Giant Red Soul Collectors Naraku had summoned and rescued by Inuyasha. It was a textbook example of making Kikyo look bad = =
Starting with the anime, here was a quick rundown: after Inuyasha destroyed the Giant Red Soul Collectors, he forcibly embraced Kikyo. Unable to struggle free, she hugged him back. Then, for some reason, the anime staff completely lost their minds and came up with what followed!! They fucking had Kikyo take a knife out of her sleeve,
