Personality

Han Shu is blunt, profane, and quick to enforce discipline. When Cang Du insults Tianyang’s mother, he punches Cang Du and insists that mothers deserve respect. He also punishes Tianyang for drawing a weapon against a comrade, increasing his running penalty from fifty laps to sixty when Tianyang protests 17.

His rough treatment conceals genuine concern for his subordinates. After a punishing training session, he carries Tianyang to the Medical Team rather than allowing him to rest untreated, warning that even small wounds can be fatal in the Inverse Realm. He later calls Tianyang “half a student” of his and repeatedly insists on medical examinations 19 30.

As a commander, he favors practical judgment over appearances of heroism. He checks unfamiliar orders with headquarters, recognizes the possibility of a false distress signal, and considers both mission priorities and the political consequences of an officer dying under his command. Despite this caution, he volunteers for a potentially fatal attack on Ghost Car and refuses to send a rookie in his place until Ling Feng intervenes 18 25 26 38.

Han Shu is also sexually forward toward Luo Shan: he flirts with her, asks for a date, and gropes her backside during a medical visit. She refuses the date, removes his hand, and pushes him away when he continues approaching her 20.

Repeated losses have made him accustomed to saying goodbye to comrades, but not indifferent to them. After the Ghost Car funeral, he remains to look at the graves because he may never see them again 40.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Star Marrow Pillar Retrieval

Han Shu commands Raven Squad when Tianyang joins as its guide. After breaking up Tianyang’s confrontation with Cang Du, he verifies the temporary orders attaching Chen Liu and Storm Squad to the mission. During the train journey, he gives Tianyang four hours of combat instruction and leads the squad against Wanderers blocking the tracks 16 17 18 19 20.

In Metropolis, he initially proposes leaving a distress call to a rescue team dispatched by Lighthouse Base. He warns that the callers cannot be identified and that the signal could be a trap. When Chen Liu proceeds anyway, Han Shu redirects the convoy to avoid exposing Commander Chu to repercussions if the officer dies under his command. His suspicions prove justified, and Raven Squad moves to assist the trapped Highland Eagle team 25 26 27.

The diversion costs Raven Squad and Highland Eagle three soldiers, with further casualties among the convoy’s defenders. Back at the Star Pillar, Han Shu nevertheless upholds the Nightwalkers’ tradition of allowing non-Ascender recovery participants to touch it. He overcomes Chen Liu’s objections, enabling Xun to awaken the rare Radiance Class 32 33.

Battle Against Ghost Car

After recovery work finishes, Han Shu evacuates the collapsing tunnel and organizes the convoy’s defenses against Ghost Car. When heavy bombardment fails, he rejects a general retreat because the creature is too fast and the convoy too conspicuous to escape safely 34 35.

He leads a close-range assault on its arms, using Vortex Force Field to drill through them. After Ghost Car transforms, he relays Tianyang’s suspected Will Cage location to the Shooter Model pilot, but its sniper cannon cannot penetrate the monster’s heat field 35 36 37 38.

Han Shu volunteers to enter the creature himself despite the likely fatal heat. He initially refuses Tianyang’s offer to go instead, relenting only after Ling Feng authorizes the attempt. He then directs supporting fire to draw Ghost Car away from the recovery and medical personnel while Lida prepares the opening Tianyang needs 38.

Following Tianyang’s victory, Han Shu visits him in intensive care and takes a leading role in the funeral for the fallen. He promises to report Tianyang’s contribution and try to obtain Ghost Car materials for a Material Weapon to replace the ruined Particle Warblade. After completing the mission handover, he receives another assignment instead of the leave he had planned 39 40.

Tianyang’s Revenge

Han Shu joins Ling Feng and Raven Squad members in blocking Tianyang’s route to Qin Jie’s residence. Once Tianyang refuses to abandon his revenge and Ling Feng allows him through, Han Shu lends him Cang Du’s sword, Spring Water, and physically restrains its protesting owner 48 49.
