Background / History

Ancient Invasion

The Extraterrestrial Evil Race invaded the Great Thousand World less than a thousand years after the Dou Qi Continent’s ascended lineage rose to prominence. Nearly half the upper world’s lands fell, and many ascended experts died, including the True Flame Emperor. The Immortal Emperor sacrificed his life to seal the Heavenly Evil God 336 744.

The True Flame Emperor fought three Heavenly Demon Emperors, killing one and driving another away. He used his remaining life force to seal the third—the Cursed Incantation Heavenly Demon Emperor—within the Dou Qi Continent. The Weird Curse Demon Race subsequently led an especially fierce invasion of the continent to recover its sealed leader 349.

The Heavenly Derivation Supreme sacrificed himself to create the Heaven-Deceiving Array, concealing the Dou Qi Continent and cutting it off from the Great Thousand World. War, the departure of experts, and the deaths of Dou Di depleted its origin qi. The Heavenly Derivation Sect maintained the concealment by awakening a Dou Di remnant soul every ten thousand years to repair the array 336.

Remnants on the Dou Qi Continent

Concealment prevented outside invaders from locating the continent but left more than ten Demon Emperors trapped inside. Unlike the continent’s defenders, these remnants could not replenish their forces from outside. Tou She Ancient God slew the last openly active Demon Emperor about ten thousand years before Xiao Xuan’s account; traces of the race disappeared from public life only after the Pure Lotus Demon Saint’s intervention roughly three thousand years earlier 285.

Their disappearance was incomplete. Several Demon Emperors remained dormant, fearing Tou She Ancient God, while other survivors concealed themselves for thousands of years 355 587.

Native factions also defected to the invaders. Zhu Yin, later known as the Demonic Dragon True Saint, led Ancient Void Dragon followers into their ranks during Zhu Kun’s father’s generation. Some Nine Netherworld Python experts and other snake magical beasts likewise defected after the Nine Nether Saint Ancestor’s death 485 526.

Renewed Continental War

The race resurfaced in scattered encounters before launching a continent-wide offensive. Awakened Demon Saints attacked cities and defensive lines while Demon Emperor Bo Kui fought Xiao Xuan. Bo Kui brought in the Black Sea Demon Emperor and the Third-Generation Soul Emperor, creating a three-enemy encirclement 277 433 499.

The offensive caused catastrophic civilian losses. Hundreds of millions died outside the main battlefront, and individual Demon Saints could fight two defenders through their unusual abilities and tenacious vitality 499.

A demonic signal escaped through the concealment array, leaving a clue to the continent’s location. Meanwhile, a black egg in the shattered Myriad Demon Realm began gestating a Sacred Demon Race Demon Emperor. Xiao Xuan and five Peak Dou Sheng experts used the Five Emperors Sealing Demon Formation to delay its birth by approximately ten years, while Gu Yuan and allied factions fought the race’s reinforcements 501 502.

Defeat of the Continental Remnants

As their forces weakened, surviving Demon Saints scattered across the continent and attacked vulnerable factions. Dozens of major cities on the Northeast Continent were massacred, with deaths exceeding one hundred million, while roving defenders initially killed only two Demon Saints there 548 553.

Xiao Yan’s bounty campaign turned sightings into opportunities for rewards, driving almost all of the few dozen known survivors into hiding. The race retaliated with traps, including a conspicuously detectable Two-Star Demon Saint used as bait for Dou Sheng hunters near the Cang River basin 555 556 557.

Sweeps by Xiao Yan and Gu Yuan reduced the escaped Myriad Demon Realm forces to fewer than one-fifth of their original number. After becoming a Dou Di, Xiao Yan spent three days locating and burning the continent’s concealed survivors, including remnants hidden for over ten thousand years. The Xiao Clan and Flame Hall also destroyed its evil sects and demon cults 565 587.

War Against Xiao Yan

The Cursed Incantation Heavenly Demon Emperor’s death enabled the White Bone Heavenly Demon Emperor to locate the Dou Qi Continent. The Bone Demon Tribe attacked, but the continent’s defenders moved their world with the Deception-Heaven Great Array while Xiao Yan held off the invaders 698 703.

Xiao Yan destroyed the Bone Demon Tribe and entered the race’s territory. The Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor ordered all Demon Emperors below Heavenly Demon Emperor rank to flee from him and report his location; Heavenly Demon Emperors were ordered to hold him at any cost until reinforcements arrived 703 705.

Despite repeated raids and a coordinated pursuit, Xiao Yan survived with the undercover Second-Generation Soul Emperor’s assistance. He later refined the Chaos True Flame and fought his way toward the Great Thousand World. An allied offensive divided the race’s forces and helped him escape 713 717 724.

Territorial Retreat

Xiao Yan’s later campaigns purified occupied lower planes and threatened the race’s strongest leaders. He fought the Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor and six other peak Heavenly Demon Emperors to a draw without using his strongest Fire Lotus Divine Ability 770.

The race relinquished more than one hundred large planes and withdrew from vast numbers of smaller planes. Its leaders concluded that their remaining hope was to resurrect the Heavenly Evil God before Xiao Yan reached the Immortal Emperor’s level 770.

Final War and Destruction

The race attacked the Northern Desolate Mound as the Great Thousand World prepared to erase the Heavenly Evil God’s final life imprint. Xiao Yan and Lin Dong confronted the invaders while Qin Tian directed the suppression effort 777.

Unable to overcome Xiao Yan, the attacking Demon Emperors detonated themselves to free their god. Their sacrifice broke the seal, but the Heavenly Evil God remained suppressed by Xiao Yan and ultimately died 780 781 784.

More than half the race’s Demon Emperors and twenty-nine of its thirty-one remaining great-clan chiefs had joined the failed assault. Xiao Yan then led the counteroffensive, killed the two remaining chiefs—the Thunder Prison Heavenly Demon Emperor and Ancient Heavenly Demon Emperor—and destroyed surviving Demon Emperors. The three-day purge reclaimed all occupied Great Thousand World territory and purified its demonic contamination. The Sacred Demon Continent was preserved and sealed rather than destroyed 784.

Organization and Hierarchy

Leadership and Internal Politics

  • Heavenly Evil God — The race’s supreme figure; rescuing him became its final strategy for survival 744 770 780.
  • Saint Heavenly Demon Emperor — Its strongest active expert and principal military commander during the conflict with Xiao Yan 703 781.
  • Sacred Demon Race — Exercises control over the other clans; without that restraint, the collective could descend into civil war 733.
  • Thirty-Two Great Clans — Hold privileged status. Each is entitled to a central throne in the race’s council hall; the Bone Demon Tribe’s throne remained empty after its destruction 277 776.
  • Inter-clan relations — Rivalries and grudges are common. Heavenly Demon Emperors restrict large-scale internal wars but generally ignore small-scale bloodshed 713.

Abilities & Skills

Demonic Qi

  • Corruption: Demonic qi can contaminate bodies, souls, and territory; even a Dou Di corpse was tainted by it 284.
  • Energy quality: Demonic qi and spiritual energy are higher-grade energies than ordinary dou qi 582.
  • Mental influence: Exposure can provoke agitation and murderous impulses. Consuming large quantities affected even Xiao Yan despite his powerful soul and purifying flame 557 703.
  • Conversion: Demonic contamination prevents native defectors from obtaining origin qi. The Cursed Incantation Heavenly Demon Emperor can transform those below Emperor Realm soul strength with a glance 355 520.

Vitality and Concealment

  • Survivability: Ordinary Dou Sheng often struggle against same-level members; even Three-Star or Four-Star Dou Sheng cannot be completely certain of killing a Two-Star Demon Saint 462 558.
  • Long-term dormancy: Members can seal themselves underground and survive concealed for thousands of years 565 587.
  • Aura suppression: Deliberately hidden Seven-Star and Eight-Star Demon Saints can escape detection even by Eight-Star Dou Sheng 548.
  • Disguise and infiltration: The Lust Demon Emperor concealed himself within the Ancestor of Joyous Union’s body 655.

Feeding and Specialized Powers

Weaknesses and Countermeasures

  • Heavenly flames: Suppress demonic qi even when wielded by the Sacred Demon Race. World-purifying flame techniques provide a particularly effective counter 369 583.
  • Purification: Hun Miaomiao demonstrated that demonic qi can be reduced to clean, cultivable basic energy by destroying its sinister properties with heavenly flame 592 593.
  • Devouring techniques: The Heaven-Devouring Demon Art can turn the race’s power into cultivation resources, but excessive consumption risks demonic transformation 589.
  • Plane resistance: The Dou Qi Continent resists invading Demon Emperors, while its Dou Di can draw upon the plane’s energy to offset the difference between dou qi and demonic qi 582 583.
  • Emperor-level detection: Xiao Yan’s strengthened soul could detect dormant members a thousand li underground, defeating concealment that had worked against Dou Sheng 587.

  • Night Demon Sky-Covering Shield — Guardian treasure of the Eternal Night Heavenly Demon Emperor; reduced to scrap by Xiao Yan 717.
