Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Peak Dou Sheng — previous life 1 Her established cultivation when she confronts Xiao Yan at Fallen Peak. She has already succeeded Hun Tiandi as Hun Clan leader; the process by which she reached this realm is not shown.
Five-Star Dou Zun — reborn life 284 Reaches this level through secluded cultivation at approximately sixteen. Together with her divine-grade bloodline, this unlocks use of her ancient surveillance crystal.
  • Dou Di remains an unrealized goal: Her possession of Origin Qi gives her a route toward the realm, but she is explicitly still below Dou Sheng when Xiao Yan defeats her. Her previous-life Peak Dou Sheng cultivation should not be confused with her post-rebirth strength 283 289.

Background / History

Childhood and betrayal

In their previous life, Hun Dai'er lived with the Xiao Clan as Xiao Yan’s childhood companion. She left when he was fifteen. His initial affection for her was that of an older brother toward a younger sister; their relationship changed during the period following the crippling of his Dou Qi 233.

Her betrayal left Xiao Yan with lasting emotional wounds. A later illusion reconstructs the confrontation he remembers: she claimed that her affection had been an act, that saving him had served her interests, and demanded his piece of the Tou She Ancient God Jade 36 149.

Despite their eventual estrangement, they had once been highly effective collaborators. Together, they killed Hun Tiandi, allowing Hun Dai'er to inherit the Hun Clan leadership while Xiao Yan obtained what he wanted. Their subsequent conflict lasted hundreds of years without either achieving a decisive victory 130 233.

Fallen Peak and rebirth

Hun Dai'er intercepted Xiao Yan at Fallen Peak while pursuing its mysterious energy. She renewed an earlier offer of cooperation, promising to help him reach Dou Di after her own breakthrough, but he refused to risk another betrayal. Four Eight-Star Dou Sheng allies supported her during the confrontation 1.

The pillar of light engulfed both combatants and separated them inside an ancient palace. Hun Dai'er was also reborn, retaining her knowledge of Xiao Yan and their previous life. Xiao Yan confirms this after recognizing her methods in Hun Moli’s attack 1 130.

Pursuit of Xiao Yan

As Hun Tiandi’s young daughter, Hun Dai'er enjoyed exceptional standing despite her limited cultivation. She sent subordinates to Wutan City to capture Xiao Yan, only to learn that he had already left. She rejected using the Xiao Clan as hostages because she believed his former ruthlessness would make such leverage useless 38.

Her approach was to overwhelm him before he could regain his strength. Hun Moli, a Five-Star Dou Zun, eventually ambushed him in the Black-Corner Region. Xiao Yan reasoned that Hun Dai'er had not sent a Dou Sheng because her authority was still insufficient to command one 38 130.

Following the Soul Hall’s destruction, Hun Dai'er suspected Xiao Yan’s involvement. She connected Hun Moli’s disappearance, Yao Chen’s resurrection, and events in the Black-Corner Region, then ordered an investigation into Yao Chen’s new disciple. However, the report on “Yao Yan” persuaded her that he could not be the Xiao Yan she had known for centuries 201 202.

Second alliance against Hun Tiandi

Hun Dai'er secured the energy from Fallen Peak and arranged for Hun Xuzi to ambush Xiao Yan there. Rather than relying solely on her authority, she appealed to Hun Xuzi’s desire for the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame by claiming that Xiao Yan possessed the key to taming it 227.

When Xiao Yan infiltrated the Hun Clan disguised as Hun Xuzi, she recognized him because he dared to meet her eyes—something the real Hun Xuzi would not do. She kept his identity secret and proposed recreating their former alliance to kill Hun Tiandi 231 232.

Xiao Yan agreed only on the condition that she help him obtain the Nihility Devouring Flame’s essence. Their agreement remained strictly transactional: he refused her attempts at personal reconciliation. Hun Dai'er subsequently provided instructions for the operation and helped prevent other Hun Clan experts from interfering in the battle 232 234 244.

After Xiao Yan killed Hun Tiandi, she again proposed joining forces and used her control of the Fallen Peak energy as leverage. Xiao Yan rejected her, declaring that he would rather abandon his ambition to reach Dou Di than cooperate with her 245.

Sealed Soul Realm and defeat

Now clan chief, Hun Dai'er sealed the Soul Realm while the other Ancient Clans gathered outside it. Restoring its spatial passage would take at least a dozen years, giving her time to cultivate toward Dou Di using the Origin Qi she possessed 284 289.

The isolation also left the clan impoverished. Xiao Yan had killed its foremost alchemist and taken its treasures, while the sealed realm prevented members from gathering new resources. Hun Dai'er suppressed growing dissatisfaction and considered carrying out a purge rather than relaxing her control 284.

Her plan failed because Xiao Yan obtained the means to become a Dou Di in another world. He entered the Soul Realm using the Spatial Ancestral Symbol and confronted her before she had even reached Dou Sheng. Recognizing that she could no longer oppose him, she conceded defeat 289.

Choice after defeat

Xiao Yan brought Hun Dai'er to meet Xun'er, whose place in his heart had superseded hers through his experience on the Path of Reincarnation. Hun Dai'er’s insistence that Xun'er was merely a substitute collapsed when Xun'er challenged her and Xiao Yan confirmed that he loved Xun'er more than he had loved her 286 290 291.

Xiao Yan offered her a collar, which she willingly accepted. Their subsequent private encounter reduced their accumulated resentment. Nevertheless, when she later reunited with Hun Moli, Hun Dai'er claimed that her submission was only a strategy of enduring humiliation while waiting for an opportunity 291 292 293.

Possible connection to Xun'er

Near the ending, the Universe Will asks whether Xiao Yan has guessed Hun Dai'er’s identity. He reasons that Hun Dai'er and Xun'er may be two branches of the same person, divided across different paths of reincarnation: his previous life contained Hun Dai'er but no Xun'er, while the Path of Reincarnation contained Xun'er but no Hun Dai'er. This remains his theory rather than an explicitly confirmed identity 478.

Appearance

Hun Dai'er’s gentle appearance contrasts sharply with her killing intent. In her previous life, she appears as an exceptionally beautiful woman in white; after rebirth, her innocent-looking face invites protective affection 1 38.

  • Hair: Long, smooth silver hair 38.
  • Eyes: Blood-red, often described as emotionless despite her smile 38.
  • Clothing: White dresses or robes 1 38.
  • Expressions: A lively or charming smile can accompany cold eyes and murderous threats 1 38.

Personality

Hun Dai'er is ruthless, calculating, and determined to exercise power independently. She regards Hun Tiandi as an obstacle rather than accepting a future as his puppet, and conspires against him in both lives. Her treatment of failed subordinates is brutal: she crushes a guard’s fingers and orders her to kill herself if her next mission fails 38 232 243.

Her attachment to Xiao Yan combines admiration, possessiveness, and pride in having shaped him. She calls him her “most perfect masterpiece” and fills her private palace with his portraits. Even while valuing his intelligence and reliability, she repeatedly assumes that his lingering feelings will let her regain control of their relationship 38 201 238 286.

She can acknowledge a tactical defeat without immediately losing composure. However, her confidence becomes self-deception when she refuses to believe Xiao Yan has moved on or could have become a Dou Di without the resources she controls 284 289 291.

Abilities & Skills

Previous-life Dou Sheng combat

At Peak Dou Sheng, Hun Dai'er can directly contest Xiao Yan’s attacks, although she remains wary of his Purifying Lotus Demon Flame 1.

  • Blood-colored demonic talisman: Bites her fingertip and traces a rune in the air to condense a talisman against his Fire Lotus 1.
  • Destructive clash: The collision annihilates space across tens of thousands of kilometers and melts the Fallen Mountain Range 1.
  • Limit: These feats belong to her previous life, not her much weaker post-rebirth cultivation 284 289.

Divine-grade bloodline

Her Hun Clan bloodline meets the exceptional requirement for activating the ancient surveillance crystal 284.

  • Requires at least Five-Star Dou Zun cultivation before the crystal can be used 284.
  • Her bloodline and physique are later invoked by Xiao Yan to manifest the Emperor-Slaying Ghost Blood Blade as a Spirit Vein Divine Ability. This is a feat performed by Xiao Yan, not a documented technique she personally uses 473.

Scheming and political control

Hun Dai'er uses information, incentives, and institutional authority to compensate for her limited post-rebirth strength 201 227 231.

  • Plants agents in other Ancient Clans to gather intelligence 201.
  • Recognizes patterns resembling Xiao Yan’s previous-life schemes 201.
  • Secures Hun Xuzi’s cooperation by offering information about the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame 227.
  • Exercises final authority over Hun Miesheng’s punishment and replacement as Soul Hall Master 201.
  • Detects Xiao Yan’s impersonation through a behavioral inconsistency rather than a stated disguise-breaking technique 231.

Retained danger perception

Although reborn with far weaker cultivation, she retains the keen awareness of mortal danger developed as a Peak Dou Sheng 289.

  • Senses that something is wrong and interrupts her secluded cultivation before discovering Xiao Yan in front of her 289.
  • This perception does not give her the strength to resist his Dou Di-level power 289 290.

Unidentified flame

She produces a silvery-white flame with a flick of her finger and burns a butterfly to ash 38.

  • Its name, classification, and combat potential are not established in the supplied passages 38.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Ancient surveillance crystal — A noncombat divine artifact capable of observing anyone on the Dou Qi Continent, with clear images and sound. Activation requires Five-Star Dou Zun cultivation and a divine-grade bloodline. Dou Di observers can detect its surveillance; Xiao Yan can trace it to her and later block it 284 285 286 287.
  • Fallen Peak energy / Origin Qi — Her principal bargaining asset and intended means of pursuing Dou Di. She claims to have measures preventing Xiao Yan from locating it through memory searches if he kills her 245 283.
  • Tou She Ancient God Jade piece — Holds a piece that she believes prevents outsiders from opening the Ancient Emperor’s Cave Mansion while it remains in her possession 289.
  • Hun Tiandi’s soul imprint — A protective imprint left on her by her father. She warns Xiao Yan that threatening her life would cause Hun Tiandi to emerge from seclusion 231.
  • Collar — Offered by Xiao Yan after her defeat and willingly worn as acceptance of her new subordinate position 291.

Relationships

  • Xiao Yan — Childhood companion, former lover, collaborator, and centuries-long enemy. Their second alliance eliminates Hun Tiandi, but their personal reconciliation fails; she later submits to Xiao Yan after losing both her military advantage and her belief that he still loves her most 130 232 233 245 291.
  • Hun Tiandi — Father and obstacle to independent rule. She helps arrange his death in both lives, while still exploiting his protection before the second assassination 231 232 243.
  • Xiao Xun'er — Romantic rival whom she initially dismisses as her substitute. Xun’er’s confrontation helps destroy that belief; Xiao Yan later theorizes that the two women may share a reincarnational origin 290 291 478.
  • Hun Moli — Formerly loyal subordinate sent to capture Xiao Yan. Hun Dai'er’s abuse leaves such a deep fear that Hun Moli still trembles upon seeing her after losing her memories 130 293.
  • Hun Miesheng — Soul Hall Master under her authority. She removes him from office and sentences him to a year in the Astral Wind Soul-Refining Grounds, with possible reinstatement as Deputy Master if he survives 201.
  • Hun Xuzi — Recruited to wait for Xiao Yan at Fallen Peak through the prospect of obtaining the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame 227.

Trivia

  • Her private palace is forbidden to everyone else, including her father; its only substantial decorations are portraits of Xiao Yan 38.
  • A Hun Dai'er encountered during Xiao Yan’s earlier poisoned hallucinations is explicitly identified as a creation of the neurotoxin, not the real woman 31.
  • Her surveillance crystal explains how she repeatedly located Xiao Yan during their previous-life conflict and ultimately intercepted him at Fallen Peak 284 285.
