Background / History

Previous Timeline: Heavenly Poison Woman

In Xiao Yan’s previous life, Xiao Yi Xian became the feared Heavenly Poison Woman. Her poison mastery made even Dou Zong experts wary, and she once slaughtered an entire super empire in a rage, sparing neither people nor beasts. She also destroyed the Ten Thousand Scorpion Sect and founded the Poison Sect, which became the Chu Yun Empire’s strongest faction 9 41.

Her first brief confrontation with Xiao Yan in the Chu Yun Empire ended in a draw. They later fought repeatedly after she became a Soul Hall Heavenly Venerable and he became the Demon Wrath Venerable. With victories and defeats on both sides, the two acquired a reputation as sworn rivals 9.

The Soul Hall’s method of suppressing her Woeful Poison Body was incomplete. Its eventual eruption killed her and released poisonous fumes across thousands of miles, leaving a forbidden zone from which no one emerged alive 9.

Her past is later depicted through a dream of that previous life. Without meeting Xiao Yan during childhood, she remained a healer near the Magical Beast Mountain Range until discovering a treasure brought mercenaries after her, including people she had previously treated. Their betrayal drove her to awaken the Woeful Poison Body using instructions found among the treasures. She subsequently abandoned her former kindness and established her rule in the Chu Yun Empire through the Poison Sect 154.

The dream also reveals Xiao Yan’s response to her death: he visited the poisonous marsh left by her eruption, remained there for a day, and then burned it away with pink flames. Her corpse had already dissolved in its own poison 154.

Meeting Xiao Yan

In the current timeline, Xiao Yi Xian is a village physician whose nickname comes from the many people she has saved. While gathering blood lotus essence, she attracts the attention of a Red Flame Demon Bear; her guards abandon her, and Xiao Yan intervenes to save her 9 10.

Xiao Yan shares grilled fish with her and offers to escort her home. Unknown to her, he also steals her blood lotus essence by replacing it with ordinary yellow lotus essence. His reassurance leaves her convinced that he is a good person, while he privately intends to recruit the future Heavenly Poison Woman 10.

Snake Nest Mercenary Group and Village Massacre

Repeated magical beast attacks interrupt their journey before the Snake Nest Mercenary Group captures them. At the group’s headquarters, She Mo orders his men to take Xiao Yi Xian and dispose of her afterward. Xiao Yan breaks free, kills the men approaching her, and releases her bindings 11 12.

After She Mo and the other leaders are defeated, Xiao Yi Xian pleads for the remaining mercenaries’ lives, citing their dependent families. She also proposes that the spared mercenaries escort the abducted boys home 15 16.

When she and Xiao Yan reach her village, they find the He Family and the released mercenaries slaughtering its residents. Xiao Yan knocks her unconscious when she begs him to stop during the confrontation. By dawn, he has killed the attackers, but only half the villagers remain alive 16 17 18.

The survivors blame Xiao Yi Xian and throw stones at her. After Xiao Yan intimidates them into silence, she leaves with him, blaming herself for the deaths. He tells her that responsibility belongs to the killers, not to her 18.

Life in the Small Valley

Xiao Yi Xian intends to continue practicing medicine in Qingshan Town, but Xiao Yan knocks her unconscious and carries her away in a sack. At the Small Valley, he falsely claims that the villagers attacked her and that he rescued her from being drowned 18 19.

The valley’s medicinal herbs persuade her to stay. She gathers ingredients, experiments with crude medicines, and cooks during their residence together. Xiao Yan deliberately uses their isolation and his assistance to foster her dependence on him 19 26.

After reading the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture, Xiao Yan secretly observes her bathing and confirms the identifying marks of the Woeful Poison Body. Her blue eagle interrupts him, exposing his presence; she responds by slapping him 20 21.

Medical Hall in Wutan City

Before departing for the Chu Yun Empire, Xiao Yan establishes a clinic for her on Xiao Clan territory and promises to return for her. He secretly arranges recurring visits from troublemakers and assigns guards to drive them away while revealing that he sent them. Both groups are controlled through poison and antidotes 26 27.

Six months later, Xiao Yi Xian is still running the Medical Hall, principally selling healing medicine to mercenaries. She misses Xiao Yan but has developed a medicinal powder to deal with the troublemakers herself 37.

Xun’er visits and becomes close to her. Xiao Yi Xian’s affectionate recollections unintentionally turn Xiao Yan’s actions into stories of heroism and consideration. After learning of her growing self-reliance, Xun’er interprets the staged disturbances as an effort to make her independent; this is Xun’er’s conclusion, not something Xiao Yi Xian knows about the scheme 37.

Xiao Yi Xian ultimately lives in Wutan City for two or three years. Approximately six months before Xiao Yan’s return, an incident during poison preparation affects neighbors from more than a dozen households. The Xiao Clan settles the matter, but she feels deeply guilty and leaves the city alone. By the time Xiao Yan returns, the Medical Hall has been closed for more than half a year 145 148 149.

Awakening and Reunion

From Xiao Zhan’s account of the poisoning incident, Xiao Yan concludes that Xiao Yi Xian’s Woeful Poison Body has awakened, probably through inhaling toxins while preparing poison. He has finally collected the materials needed to control it, but initially has no way to locate her because he left no identifying mark on her 144 148.

After searching the Chu Yun Empire without success, Xiao Yan finds her back in the Small Valley. There, she continues preparing medicine but struggles against an involuntary craving for poison. Consuming it causes both intense pain and pleasure, disrupts her thoughts, and can render her unconscious. She has researched her constitution in ancient texts and fears eventually losing her reason and harming everyone around her 150.

Xiao Yan carries her indoors after she collapses. On waking, she anxiously checks that touching her has not poisoned him and initially refuses to return with him. He reveals that he has spent the intervening years gathering a means to control her constitution, then shows her a Heavenly Flame as reassurance. She breaks down in relief and confesses her fear of becoming a killer and losing the people she cares about 150 151.

At her request, Xiao Yan stays with her in the Small Valley rather than immediately returning to Wutan City. He places a Soul Imprint on her and gives her the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture. Privately, she cherishes having his attention to herself 151.

Marriage and Memories of the Previous Life

During their renewed residence in the valley, Xiao Yi Xian studies the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture while Xiao Yan cultivates. In the evenings, he tells her stories adapted from his previous life, including the history of the Heavenly Poison Woman and the Demon Wrath Venerable. She sympathizes with the Poison Woman’s lonely fate, while he emphasizes her determination to resist destiny 152.

Their exchange of wedding bows is followed by Xiao Yi Xian openly confessing her love for Xiao Yan and asking that they be more than friends. The Heavenly Poison Woman’s story encourages her to express feelings she would otherwise have concealed. Xiao Yan accepts her, choosing to preserve her kindness rather than turn her into the ruthless subordinate he originally sought 152 153.

After their marriage, Xiao Yi Xian dreams of the Heavenly Poison Woman’s previous life, including events Xiao Yan never described to her. She does not recognize the woman as herself and interprets the experience as a dream prompted by his stories, or possibly a visit from the departed Poison Woman. Much of it fades after waking 154 155.

Xiao Yan recognizes her account as genuine experiences from the previous timeline but tells her it was only a dream. He notices that she has become more attached to him and that some of her habits resemble those of the Heavenly Poison Woman, although her kind personality remains unchanged. When she asks whether the Demon Wrath Venerable loved the Poison Woman, he answers that he thinks he did 155.

The couple continues living peacefully in the valley for a time. They try addressing one another as “husband” and “wife” but find the terms too sentimental and return to using their names. Xiao Yi Xian looks after Xiao Yan’s daily needs and discusses possible names for their future children 155.

Return to Wutan City and Starfall Pavilion

Once Xiao Yi Xian is more at peace, she agrees to return to Wutan City. She offers to summon the now-grown Xiao Lan as their mount, but Xiao Yan instead carries her using his flame wings. On arrival, Zi Yan draws her into the sworn-sisterhood ceremony already taking place between Zi Yan, Xun’er, and Qing Lin 156.

Xiao Yan later leaves Wutan City ahead of schedule and instructs the women by letter to wait for him at Jia Nan Academy. Xun’er interprets this as a request to apply for admission. His underlying plan is to use the academy’s underground Magma World as the Extreme Yang Land needed for Xiao Yi Xian’s Poison Pill treatment, although her accumulated poisonous energy is not yet sufficient 159.

Xiao Yi Xian subsequently accompanies Xiao Yan and the others through a Space Wormhole to Starfall Pavilion, arriving after roughly ten days. He introduces them to Yao Lao and Venerable Feng, who recognize the rarity of the special constitutions among his companions 174.

While living at Starfall Pavilion, she receives cultivation guidance from Xiao Yan and reaches Dou Wang by continuously consuming poison. He checks her accumulated toxins, finds that they still fall short of the amount needed to condense a Poison Pill, and strengthens the Netherworld Poison Flame seed protecting her 196.

Later Life with Xiao Yan

Xiao Yi Xian remains among the wives awaiting Xiao Yan at Starfall Pavilion after his extended absences. During one reunion, Hun Dai’er secretly watches them through a crystal and becomes intensely jealous, threatening to kill Xiao Yi Xian and Qing Lin once she leaves seclusion. Xiao Yan detects the surveillance and deliberately provokes her 282 284 285.

Before departing the Dou Qi Continent, Xiao Yan promises the women a grand wedding after establishing a new domain in the Great Thousand World. Xiao Yi Xian is later shown together with Xun’er, Zi Yan, Cai Lin, and Hun Dai’er in his household 304 435.

After Xiao Yan defeats the Heavenly Evil God, he holds a grand wedding and eventually travels with his wives. Xiao Yi Xian is present when the family spends time on his blue home planet. She has begun developing a “poison soup” to rival medicinal soup; Qing Lin and the others keep her away from cooking because they worry she might inadvertently add poison to the food 479.

Appearance

  • Wears white when she first meets Xiao Yan 10.
  • Carries a small pouch at her waist for herbs and magic cores 10 11.
  • Has thin, seven-colored markings on her lower abdomen, identifying her Woeful Poison Body 20 21.
  • Is described as pretty, with a somewhat ethereal air, when Xun’er visits her Medical Hall 37.
  • Continues wearing white during her solitary return to the Small Valley 150.
  • A rainbow sheen appears on her cheeks when she consumes poison. She dislikes the appearance and especially does not want Xiao Yan to see her in that state 150.

Personality

Xiao Yi Xian is compassionate and strongly attached to her work as a physician. She opposes killing the low-ranking mercenaries because their families depend on them, and later tries to stop Xiao Yan from harming a village child despite the villagers’ hostility toward her 15 18.

Her early trust makes her vulnerable to Xiao Yan’s deception. She never suspects his theft of the blood lotus essence and initially dismisses his threats of exterminating families as a pretense. The village massacre briefly makes her afraid of his indifference, but her later recollections soften or recast his disturbing behavior 10 16 18 37.

She remains enthusiastic about medicinal herbs despite being unable to become a true alchemist. Although she grows dependent on Xiao Yan, she later refuses Xun’er’s help with the clinic’s troublemakers, explaining that she does not want to rely on others for everything 19 26 37.

The awakening of her Woeful Poison Body intensifies her guilt and fear of harming others. She researches its history extensively, attempts to resist consuming poison, and isolates herself rather than risk bringing disaster upon those she cares about. Xiao Yan’s assurance that he can control it restores her hope 148 150 151.

Her affection also develops a quietly possessive side: she prefers remaining in the Small Valley because there she can enjoy Xiao Yan’s kindness without sharing his attention. The tragic story of the Heavenly Poison Woman prompts her to overcome her usual reserve and confess her love directly 151 153.

Despite the return of some previous-life habits through her dream, her personality remains kind. After marriage, she becomes more openly attached to Xiao Yan and takes pleasure in their domestic life and plans for a family 155.

Abilities & Skills

Medicine and Herbal Knowledge

  • Has treated and saved enough people to earn the name Xiao Yi Xian 10.
  • Can distinguish rare blood lotus essence from the similar-looking yellow lotus essence by checking for its blood-red interior 10.
  • Experiments with prescriptions and produces medicinal mixtures using a small furnace 19 26.
  • Develops a medicinal powder potent enough to punish the thugs troubling her Medical Hall 37.
  • Cannot refine genuine alchemical pills: her affinity and soul-force limitations prevent her from using Dou Qi flames as an alchemist would. Her mixtures have some effect but fall well short of true pills 19.
  • Continues preparing and bottling medicinal powders after withdrawing to the Small Valley, and later studies the Seven-Colored Poison Scripture given to her by Xiao Yan 150 151 152.
  • Retains an interest in experimental preparations into the ending, when she develops poison soup as a counterpart to medicinal soup 479.

Woeful Poison Body

  • Innate constitution: Exists before birth; the text describes its prenatal toxins as dangerous to the bearer’s parents 10.
  • Awakening: Requires consuming poison. Xiao Yan initially postpones awakening hers until a means of control is available. It later awakens during her Medical Hall period; he suspects accidental inhalation of toxins while she was preparing poison 20 22 148 150.
  • Identification: Thin, seven-colored markings on the lower abdomen reveal the constitution even before awakening 20 21.
  • Principal danger: Excessive toxin accumulation can cause an eruption. Her previous-timeline death demonstrates its potentially catastrophic range 9 22.
  • Potential: Successfully condensing a Poison Pill could greatly increase the bearer’s power, possibly allowing advancement to Dou Sheng; no completed Poison Pill treatment is documented in the supplied events 21 159 196.
  • Poison-driven cultivation: Once awakened, the constitution allows her to increase her strength by continuously consuming poison. She reaches Dou Wang through this process 196.
  • Compulsive consumption: Produces an overwhelming craving for poison that she struggles to resist. Consumption brings burning pain together with intense pleasure, a rainbow sheen on her cheeks, and mental disorientation that can lead to unconsciousness 150 151.
  • Contact hazard: When unconscious during an episode, her body is covered in deadly poison capable of poisoning someone who touches her 150.
  • Late-story application: Xiao Yan uses the Dragon Phoenix Art to draw on her constitution. Wielded with his own strength and amplified by Emperor Flame, its poison affects opponents whom ordinary poisons should not harm 473.

Proposed Control Methods

Method Function Requirements / Progress
Poison Pill Method Condenses accumulated toxins into a Poison Pill, allowing control rather than curing the constitution 21. Requires three Heavenly Flames, a seventh-rank Heavenly Poison Scorpion Dragon Beast magic core, and bodhi body-transforming saliva. Xiao Yan secures the beast core and later gathers all the required materials. Treatment also requires an Extreme Yang Land, for which he selects the Magma World beneath Jia Nan Academy. As of her Dou Wang advancement, her accumulated toxins are still insufficient to form the pill; completion is not documented 21 50 144 148 159 196.
Netherworld Poison Flame Absorbs toxins to reduce their buildup and suppress the danger of eruption 22. Xiao Yan obtains and devours the flame, then places a seed inside Xiao Yi Xian to activate if her constitution threatens to go out of control. He later upgrades the seed as her toxins accumulate 40 159 196.
Sealing Art Temporarily delays an eruption 22. Yao Lao knows of the approach but does not possess the required technique 22.

Combat and Fieldwork

  • Is not yet a Dou Zhe during the journey with Xiao Yan and does not excel at fighting 11.
  • Assists by extracting magic cores and gathering fire-attribute magical beast blood after Xiao Yan’s battles 11.
  • In the previous timeline, becomes a poison specialist capable of repeatedly contesting Xiao Yan and frightening Dou Zong experts 9.
  • Can use the fully grown Xiao Lan as a flying mount; the eagle helps her return to the Small Valley 156.

She develops considerable affection and dependence, largely unaware of his theft, abduction, staged disturbances, and original intention to cultivate a powerful subordinate. In the previous timeline, they were rival combatants 9 10 18 26 27 37. He later finds her after her poison-body awakening, reassures her that it can be controlled, and chooses to protect her kindness rather than recreate the Heavenly Poison Woman. She confesses her love, and they marry in the Small Valley. He continues guiding her cultivation and safeguarding her constitution 150 151 152 153 155 196.
  • Xiao Lan — Her blue eagle companion, rescued months before its introduction. It is still under three years old and below the first rank when it exposes Xiao Yan at the stream 21. • Village residents — Former neighbors who turn against her after the massacre, blaming her for bringing disaster and forcing her departure 16 18.
  • Soul Hall — Her affiliation in the previous timeline. Its incomplete suppression method fails to prevent her fatal poison-body eruption 9.
  • Yao Lao and Venerable Feng — Meet her at Starfall Pavilion and recognize her Woeful Poison Body as one of the rare constitutions among Xiao Yan’s companions. Yao Lao earlier supplies Xiao Yan with the Poison Pill Method and information about alternative suppression methods 21 22 174.
  • Hun Dai’er — Becomes jealous while secretly watching Xiao Yi Xian with Xiao Yan and vows to kill her after leaving seclusion 285. Later appears alongside Xiao Yi Xian among Xiao Yan’s women and with the family on his home planet 435 479.
  • Heavenly Poison Woman — Xiao Yi Xian regards the woman in Xiao Yan’s stories as a tragic predecessor and, after her dream, imagines her as a departed “big sister.” She does not know that this woman is herself from the previous timeline 152 154 155.
