The sunlight vanished in an instant.
Outside the cabin, grayish-white fog quickly spread again, drowning out that trace of warmth.
Nikita's slightly bewildered gaze beneath the sunlight returned to calm, her eerie crimson eyes gleaming once more.
"Fog again."
She murmured, pushing away the chair beneath her and rising to her feet.
Every time the fog rose, it meant another long voyage.
Nikita still remembered that long ago, on the day she had first boarded the Mist, fog had risen as well. That day, she had followed the captain across the tranquil sea for a long time and met the other three legendary captains.
The captains of the Vortex, the Sea God, and the Iceberg.
After that day, she rarely had another chance to leave the ship.
As the fog ebbed and flowed, the banshee watched from the narrow cabin window as the Mist sailed through blue seas, red seas, black seas, and even voids suffused with starlight. She watched the world outside change from ferns to deciduous forests, from silent glaciers to an even more silent Starry Sky. She watched the combat crew of the Mist come and go aboard the ship, while those legendary fiends groveled at the captain's feet.
Yet from beginning to end, all she could do was watch in envy.
Because she was merely a cook aboard the Mist and had been on board for less than a year. The veteran crew had once told her that newcomers needed three to five years of tempering before they had a chance to leave the ship or form their own combat team to hunt in other New Worlds.
