From his inexplicable departure from the hunting team, to appearing deep within the Bewitching Forest and encountering Zhu Si; from brewing the potion himself and falling asleep after drinking it; to meeting the mysterious being in the yellow robe in his dream, entering that enormous iron gate, undergoing a long trial, and finally accepting the King in Yellow's "gift" before returning to reality.
In reality, Zheng Qing had blasted half the forest flat with a single shot and subdued Nikita and the army she had gathered.
While telling the story, Zheng Qing had played a small trick, making the others think that he had fired that shot only after accepting the King in Yellow's gift—though that was indeed partly true. More precisely, the "gift" had caused the budding Forbidden Curse deep within Zheng Qing's soul to sprout and grow. Its power had leaked out in the process, greatly increasing the might of his rune gun.
Removing that layer of "mediation" did not affect the causal connection of the whole sequence. Instead, it concealed the existence of the Forbidden Curse very well. Zheng Qing was increasingly pleased with his skill at storytelling.
For the listeners, it was also difficult to notice the subtle omission in Zheng Qing's account—such as how the King in Yellow's gift had turned into that shot filled with an aura of destruction. Compared with that, they were more concerned with Zheng Qing's experiences.
Everything he described seemed so strange and bizarre.
Even here in the Illusory Dream Realm, a world filled with fantasy and weirdness, Zheng Qing's experiences far exceeded what most wizards could imagine.
