Zheng Qing had no idea that, on the shore of Linzhong Lake, a young wizard was overjoyed to have found a trace of his long-missing pet.
Nor did he know that the shadow black cat confiscated from him during the School Hunt Competition was crouched on a hill by the shore, watching him lazily. He did not know that a Black Goat had slipped beneath the water to within a few dozen yards of the Green Vine, or that a Blue Great Fish was following behind it.
He did not know that the ball of golden light above his head had appeared because of the owner of Qingqiu Mansion.
He did not know that the School Guardian Formation had locked onto him because of the windmill-shaped symbols on his Talisman Gun. In the dream, Zheng Qing had absorbed a wisp of the Origin of Wind gifted by Hastur. Its reflection in reality was the yellow Runes that had appeared on the gun.
Those symbols made Zheng Qing's Talisman Gun sturdier and more powerful, but they had also branded him with a deep trace of Hastur.
Had he known any of this, he would have regretted climbing back to First University along the Green Vine. Even with his abysmal divination skills, he could have worked out that enormous trouble was about to break out here—and that he stood at its center.
Hastur was a being from the Deep Starry Sky, known as the King in Yellow.
The School Guardian Formation was exceptionally sensitive to the demons on its wanted list, but it was even more vigilant against the wanderers from the Deep Starry Sky who had always coveted this world.
So when the formation detected that aura, it used its independent authority to make the strongest response possible.
