Wizards' Lantern Festival was much the same as in the mundane world.
The similarities lay in the day's main activities: lighting lanterns, worshipping gods, praying for blessings, and at most adding a lively lantern parade through the streets. The differences were that the deities worshipped by wizards were real, and the blessings they prayed for were remarkably effective.
There were also the lanterns.
In the mundane world, one would never see beautiful lanterns of every design chatting among themselves as they drifted leisurely through the air all night long.
In any case, the festive atmosphere kindled by this ancient holiday did an excellent job of easing the anxiety the first week of school had brought the young wizards. Every wizard at the university, male or female, temporarily forgot about final exam grades and the visibly mounting pile of homework, spending their shared youth with abandon on this day.
After the evening meeting.
As promised, Zheng Qing planned to visit Dr. Duzem again.
Although Jiang Yu had said when they left the previous night that Zheng Qing could visit the Institute of Abnormal Life alone in the future, she still chose to go with him that evening.
The price of her company, however, was that Zheng Qing had to accompany her on a long circuit around Beta Town, taking in every newly raised lantern of the Lantern Festival night. Of course, for safety's sake, neither of them concealed themselves, but they dutifully wore their hoods and kept their faces tightly covered throughout.
"You really don't need to make another trip."
Zheng Qing sincerely tried to persuade the witch several times. "It's rare for you to get an evening where you can rest properly. Don't waste your energy on trivial matters like this."
