On thursday, a kappa with its skullcap torn off was dumped outside Wander Bar. By the time the early-rising bartender found it, the Big Frog at the entrance had already licked the kappa's brains clean.
That made extracting its memories impossible.
"I'm innocent! I've been wronged!"
When the amphibian was taken away by the Black Robes of the Beta Town Management Committee, it wailed miserably. Its already strikingly large eyes had swollen even more. "I only dreamed that my master rewarded me with a bowl of crab roe tofu. When I woke up, its empty skull was sitting right in front of me... I really didn't do it!"
Though the truth of its words could not be ruled out.
When passersby discovered the dead kappa that morning, the Big Frog dozing beside it still had suspicious white residue at the corner of its mouth.
So even though the owner of Wander Bar carried considerable weight on the streets, he could not very well defend it publicly in front of so many witnesses.
"I believe you." The Wanderer Wizard comfortingly patted the Big Frog on the head, then turned to the Management Committee wizards and tugged at the brim of his hat. "Thank you for your trouble."
No one could ignore the goodwill of an Archwizard.
Especially when that Archwizard's reputation was somewhat questionable.
"It was nothing, it was nothing." The two young Black Robes hurriedly waved their hands, carefully grabbed the end of the rope binding the Big Frog, and swiftly left the scene.
The onlookers gradually dispersed.
