Crack.
As if an ice pick had struck a sheet of ice.
The crisp sound of shattering spread bit by bit like a spiderweb, echoing through the empty stone cavern plaza. Not one of the red vines binding Edge Type-1 snapped, yet the thin pale-red membrane of light clinging to Edge Type-1 shattered with a bang amid that crisp sound. It turned into a shower of glittering red motes that drifted down from midair.
Immediately afterward.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Five more sharp gunshots rang out, nearly merging into one. Five pale-blue halos burst in succession through the void, one after another, like five heavy fists hammering at the witch standing in the center of the altar.
But this was, after all, Yuanshi's home ground, and Zheng Qing's talisman bullets lacked physical bodies to carry their spell power. So even the nearest bullet's burst halo remained more than a foot away from Professor Monteria.
So close, yet so far.
Unfortunately, Zheng Qing did not see that frustrating sight. As he frantically pulled the trigger and emptied all six talisman bullets from the magazine in one breath, the young wizard gritted his teeth and activated the emergency disengagement procedure.
It was completely different from the ease and comfort of entering Edge Type-1.
Once the emergency disengagement procedure began, Zheng Qing felt as if someone had grabbed him by the ankles and hurled him straight out of an airplane cabin. Nearly two years later, he once again experienced the madness of free-falling from ten thousand meters in the air.
His head spun.
Tears and snot streamed down his face.
When he woke from the nightmare screaming and drenched in sweat, he was startled to discover that the previously empty Resonance Chamber was now packed with wizards in black and white robes.
