Not long ago, that finite number had been forty-nine.
Across the entire world—whether Alliance wizards who considered themselves orthodox, unorthodox beings of the Starry Sky, bloodthirsty demons, mad Evil Gods, or Spirit Beasts and spiritual treasures born of heaven and earth—all those who could be called "Legend" numbered only forty-nine in total.
Grand Wizards had already cast off the shackles of lifespan. Legends naturally possessed even greater longevity, living almost eternally.
This meant that if the limit of "forty-nine" were spread across the vast sea of time and the already converged River of Fate, hundreds or even thousands of years might pass without a single new Legend being born.
Every being who ascended to the rank of Legend would gradually become a legend in their own right over the long years. Their names, deeds, even their preferences and tempers would be repeatedly recounted, embellished, and even deified by Ordinary Wizards. This was likewise a continual process of consolidating and strengthening one's Legendary Status.
And the celebration held after advancing to Legend was the most crucial and most glorious moment in that process.
Legendary Celebrations had no explicit rules, nor any fixed precedent to follow.
Not only were Legendary Wizards scarce, with each one "unique," so their associated ceremonies naturally bore the deep imprint of their own will, path, and majesty; the rank of Legend itself also transcended existing rules.
A being that had surpassed even heaven and earth would naturally not be constrained by cumbersome social conventions.
