Hermione had never seen eyes so large!
Or rather, she had never faced a pair of enormous eyes from so close. They were almost as tall as she was, their dark red irises like half-smelted metal, with fine golden veins flowing across them like patterns in magma.
In their mirror-smooth pupils, she could even see herself clearly: her brown curls slightly disheveled by the heat, her face pale and taut. The jade talisman clutched in her hand gave off a gentle glow. Even the faint cloud patterns on its surface and the wisps of magic coiling around it were reflected in perfect detail.
The eyes were like two dark red moons set in an endless, profound darkness.
And she stood at the edge of that darkness, as small as a speck of dust.

Translucent eyelids marked with a fine diamond lattice flickered shut and open.
Two narrow, reptilian pupils appeared in the dark red "moons." They slowly contracted, fixing their gaze on the uninvited visitor at the cave entrance.
Hermione had only seen a gaze so cold and intent when Crookshanks was about to hunt.
But what shone from these pupils was far more than a cat's wildness. It was an older, colder, more indifferent scrutiny, as though they were examining a moving stone that had suddenly appeared in their lair.
That chill pierced the warmth radiating from the Karma Fire Jade Talisman. A shiver ran down her spine, and she instinctively took half a step back.
With that half step, she went from standing in a cavern to standing beneath a starry sky!
For a moment, everything blurred.
