No wonder the man and the two cats exchanged glances.

What Rat Immortal had brought up was an extremely sensitive matter within The Alliance.

There were two kinds of Meso World remnants.

The first came from worlds that had reached the end of their natural lives. As they slid toward the Ruins of the Great Void and gradually broke apart, their remains were left in the void. The second came from healthy worlds destroyed by some unexpected catastrophe.

Wizards had no way to use the first kind.

The Black Prison Great World was an example.

It had once begun to sink into the Ruins of the Great Void.

In theory, the process was irreversible. The matter and laws that formed a world were stripped away bit by bit, left behind in the void, until the world finally fell into nothingness with only a shadow of itself remaining. When Zheng Qing first entered the Black Prison, all life there had withered, and even its Magic Power lay dormant. That was because its most active components, including life and Magic Power, had already been stripped away by the power of the Ruins of the Great Void.

Remnants shed in that process were saturated with that same power. Burying them in a healthy, developing Small World could easily drag it toward the Ruins of the Great Void as well. One wizard had vividly described the process as a yawn: a contagious meme. Such remnants could not be used as material for World Ascension.

The other kind of remnant meant a Meso World had been destroyed unexpectedly.

Whatever had caused its destruction.

The karmic consequences of that destruction would cling to its remains. Any wizard who used them would have to bear a share of the karma tied to destroying that world.
