As evening approached, the sun slowly sank behind the academy's towering walls. Looking up now, only a small half of its golden-red form remained visible. Sunlight filtered through the dense canopy of Trees beyond the walls, casting dappled shadows of Trees.
A breeze swept past, and the shadows of Trees danced with the trembling branches and leaves, like a crowd of drunken ghosts.
Zheng Qing was not drunk, yet he stood in the tipsy evening light with a flushed face.
Nicholas's high-profile praise had caught him somewhat off guard.
The curious gazes of the other freshmen made him even more uneasy.
Embarrassed, Zheng Qing turned his face away and let his gaze fall once more on the Shadow Wall not far away.
He did not like people staring at him.
So he somewhat regretted raising his hand.
Nicholas balanced his spellbook on one finger and spun it rapidly. Orange-red sparks occasionally burst from between its pages with crackling pops like exploding beans. In an eager, cheerful tone, he explained:
"The wall actually records Jiuyou's history."
"So what you can see is the history you know."
"You can see your own name because you know yourself well enough."
"You cannot see other people. On one hand, they have not yet left enough of a mark on this wall. On the other hand, not everyone can see true history."
"If you want to see someone else's name, you can try recalling a specific historical event—for example, the 1945 Wizard Alliance Grand Wizard Council."
Zheng Qing remembered the council Nicholas mentioned. He had just previewed that section of history a few days ago!
He silently recalled it in his heart.
Dense lines of tiny text slowly emerged across the blue-black stone wall:
"...July 21, 1945... Wizard Alliance Grand Wizard Council... the 1,536th session...
