Forbidden Curse—a term both familiar and unfamiliar.

It was familiar because anyone with even a slight understanding of modern wizarding history had heard of it, heard of its terrifying, unsolvable power, and heard that this spell had prevented Wizards and Demons from launching another world war. In Zheng Qing's understanding, the Forbidden Curse could be considered the Wizarding World's "nuclear weapon," maintaining a balance of terror in this troubled world.

It was unfamiliar because the vast majority of wizards knew of the Forbidden Curse only by "hearsay." Even at First University, the heart of power in the Wizarding World, young wizards studying there could only infer the spell's might from the occasional hints dropped by their professors during lectures. The school's library, laboratories, and most other public facilities contained no detailed information whatsoever about the Forbidden Curse.
