After watching Dr. Xiao and the others disappear into the distance, the black cat lifted a paw and trotted a few steps to catch up with the Forest Cat, ready to begin the journey of searching for the "mouse nest."
Noticing his movement, the large and small cats that had been scattered around playing, resting, and eating seemed to receive some sort of signal. They all sprang to their feet, tails raised in unison, and followed after him. For a moment, rising and falling meows echoed throughout the woods, adding an eerie air out of nowhere and making the fatty beside them shiver several times in succession.
"Yeesh... that's scary as hell!" The fatty hugged his arms and looked around, fear in his eyes and uncertainty in his voice. "Say, Brother Qing... what are your cat subordinates doing?"
The black cat was also startled by the cats' reaction. His raised paw remained suspended in midair, and he did not dare put it down for a long while.
When he did not move, the other cats did not move either. Their tails stood straight up as pairs of round yellow and green eyes stared fixedly at him, motionless as statues.
"The captain is the Cat King, so of course the other cats follow him!" Lin Guo sat on the Black Goat's back, apparently unsurprised by the sight before him. Then he added, "That's common sense."
The black cat turned and glanced at the young wizard, wanting to confirm what he had heard. Instead, he met the Black Goat's expressionless, gaunt face, and the whiskers on his own face immediately drooped.
"I've never heard of that kind of common sense!" the fatty protested indignantly. "I've never heard that cats had communities, much less a status like Cat King."
