At First University, when "The Wand" was mentioned, the first thing people thought of was not the slender little wooden stick that helped wizards cast magic. Rather, it was a student society with a long history and lofty reputation, along with the commentary publication run by that society.

The society "The Wand" had been founded over a hundred years ago by Mackie Wood, then Student Union President of First University.

From its founding, the society had upheld the principles of "silence" and "neutrality." It never voiced opinions on any events occurring at the school, nor did it take sides in any disputes on campus.

Without a doubt, this choice did little to help the society grow and expand—after all, for any organization, having a clearly defined stance was of paramount importance to its development. People were easily swayed by certain viewpoints and naturally inclined toward those they liked. An organization without a viewpoint would only be a loose mob, lacking cohesion.

Thus, "The Wand," accustomed to keeping silent on the affairs large and small of the Student Union Federation, found it difficult to attract the energetic young wizards on campus. Students preferred to chase after societies with loud slogans and decisive action.

But from another perspective, "neutrality" was a perfectly suitable choice for The Wand.

For one thing, First University's many long-established societies were deeply intertwined. In particular, the two major societies led by Jiuyou Academy's "Sacred Will" and Alpha Academy's "Blood Kin Society" controlled a great many of the school's outstanding students, which meant they would suppress any newer society that coveted their position.

Simply put, any society that had the potential to develop into a third giant would face a joint blockade from "Will" and "Blood Kin." That was the nature of monopoly and hegemony.
