Background / History
Willow Deity was an ancient Immortal King Giant of the Upper Realm who had charged into and out of the Foreign Realm nine times. An ambush during her rebirth left her in the Lower Realm, where she became Stone Village’s Sacrificial Spirit 20 49.
Before Shi Xiu awakened the Heavenly Dao Treasure Body, she paid him little special attention beyond the blessings she gave villagers during festivals. Shi Hao was originally the child she favored most because of his exceptional cultivation aptitude 1 2.
Her presence protected Stone Village from neighboring Bei Village’s attempts to monopolize local resources. Although she could not leave the village in her diminished condition, she remained aware of events across the Great Wilderness 14 15.
Appearance
- Willow-tree manifestation: An enormous willow with emerald branches and leaves. She uses its branches to bless villagers, move people, and screen private conversations 1 3.
- Human likeness revealed to Huo Ling’er: A dignified woman with snowy-white skin, a gentle smile, a long green gown, and swept-up hair adorned with an exquisite hairpin. This appearance is formed through magical power 20.
- Restored true form: A white-clad woman of peerless beauty and Immortal King grace, emerging from emerald light after absorbing the Ageless Spring 49.
- Expressive branches: Her branches spread defensively when confronting a rival and sway involuntarily when she is excited about Shi Xiu 3 48.
Personality
Willow Deity is normally calm and restrained, but Shi Xiu’s awakening draws unusually tender and delighted reactions from her. She becomes openly wary of the Ruthless Great Emperor and worries about securing a place beside Shi Xiu as more powerful women become interested in him 1 3 15.
Her concern extends beyond his constitution. She worries about his safety after the destruction of Bei Village’s attackers, appreciates his generosity toward Shi Hao, and eventually regards him as a beloved rather than merely someone under her protection. The narrative explicitly distinguishes her personal affection from the Ruthless Great Emperor’s greater interest in the Heavenly Dao Treasure Body 15 18 48 49.
She combines playful affection with decisiveness: she lightly spanks Shi Xiu for bringing home another prospective companion, then chooses to marry him immediately after recovering her true form. Despite her initial jealousy, she welcomes Yun Xi and accepts both Yun Xi and Huo Ling’er as younger sisters 48 49 50.
Abilities & Skills
Willow-Branch Manipulation
Her branches serve as both physical extensions and tools for divine intervention 1 47.
- Wrap around Shi Xiu and transport him to her presence 1.
- Seal or screen the surrounding space from onlookers 1 20.
- Give festival blessings and deliver playful taps or smacks 1 18 48.
- Can serve as a medium for an avatar operating ten thousand miles away, according to Shi Xiu’s assessment 47.
Spiritual Perception and Ancient Knowledge
Even while weakened, Willow Deity retains the intuition and knowledge of an ancient Immortal King 15 18.
- Identifies Shi Xiu’s Heavenly Dao Treasure Body immediately after its awakening 1.
- Recognizes the Ruthless Great Emperor’s presence as a manifestation of will 3.
- Distinguishes the lightning that destroys Bei Village’s attackers as power originating from the Boundary Sea 14.
- Recognizes the Banished Immortal’s name and senses Shi Xiu’s return before he reaches Stone Village 15 48.
- Suggests that “Red Hair” may be a Source Heavenly Master afflicted by ominous misfortune in his twilight years; the identification remains tentative 50.
Cultivation Guidance and Supreme Bone Restoration
Willow Deity guides both Shi Xiu and Shi Hao, selecting techniques and training opportunities suited to their development 1 15.
- Taotie Art: Teaches Shi Xiu an art that increases strength by devouring external energy and the flesh, blood, or treasure bones of ferocious beasts. She warns that its cultivation involves excessive slaughter 1.
- Suanni Precious Technique: Helps Shi Hao comprehend the technique before his spar with Shi Xiu 15.
- Void God Realm access: Takes Shi Xiu’s spirit to the entrance and protects his physical body. She explicitly tells him that he must proceed beyond the entrance himself 16.
- Supreme Bone restoration: Undertakes the return of Shi Hao’s recovered bone, noting that success depends on his physical condition and that prompt treatment is preferable. The bone must subsequently be nurtured to remove Shi Yi’s lingering influence 18 19.
- Helps Shi Xiu advance to five grotto-heavens 19.
Spiritual Journey to the Boundary Sea
Using a formation and Shi Xiu’s Heavenly Dao Treasure Body, Willow Deity sends their consciousnesses to the Boundary Sea while their bodies remain in the bridal chamber 50.
- Uses the journey to recover lost memories, including cultivation techniques 50.
- Envelops both consciousnesses in life-imbued green light and returns them to the Lower Realm when confronted by a dangerous colossal being 50.
- The journey leaves traces that allow powerful beings to recognize Shi Xiu’s constitution 50.
Relationships
- Shi Xiu — Initially an ordinary villager under her protection; becomes her personal ward, beloved, and husband. She is formally established as his principal wife 1 20 49 50.
- Shi Hao — A favored young cultivator whom she mentors. She encourages him to accompany Shi Xiu, helps him understand the Suanni Precious Technique, and restores his Supreme Bone 2 15 18 19.
- Ruthless Great Emperor — A romantic rival who also seeks Shi Xiu’s Dao companionship. They agree to protect him while he grows strong enough to choose for himself; Willow Deity remains the protector able to stay beside him 3.
- Huo Ling’er — Shi Xiu’s prospective secondary wife. Willow Deity reveals her human likeness to her and permits her to accompany Shi Xiu to the Heaven Mending Pavilion 20 21.
- Yun Xi — Welcomed warmly as a prospective Dao companion for Shi Xiu. Willow Deity invites her to marry alongside her, but Yun Xi waits for her grandfather’s approval and serves as bridesmaid instead 48 49 50.
- Village Chief — A trusted village elder who consults her about the boys and organizes her wedding. She regards Stone Village as her maiden home and its residents as relatives 15 49 50.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Becoming Shi Xiu’s Dao Protector
After detecting the Heavenly Dao Treasure Body, Willow Deity privately asks Shi Xiu whether he has considered a Dao companion. She offers to become his personal Dao protector, teaches him the Taotie Art, and sends him out to cultivate 1.
The arrival of the Ruthless Great Emperor introduces a rival. Both women acknowledge that Shi Xiu is too weak to safely become their Dao companion and agree to let him choose after growing stronger. The emperor warns Willow Deity that his constitution will attract women from many planes 3.
Guiding the Brothers’ Development
Following the Boundary Sea intervention against Bei Village, Willow Deity proposes Void God Realm training to broaden the brothers’ experience and prepare them for the approaching calamity. Shi Hao leaves to search for his family, so Shi Xiu enters alone under her protection 14 15 16.
Shi Xiu returns with the Supreme Bone taken from Shi Yi. Shocked that he recovered it for Shi Hao rather than keeping it, Willow Deity prepares to restore it. Her subsequent guidance helps Shi Xiu reach five grotto-heavens while Shi Hao, reunited with his bone, reaches three 18 19.
Recognition as Principal Wife
When the Fire Emperor arranges Huo Ling’er’s marriage to Shi Xiu, Shi Xiu names Willow Deity as his principal wife. She reveals her magically manifested human appearance and Upper Realm origins to the princess, who accepts the position of secondary wife but asks to cultivate with Shi Xiu at the Heaven Mending Pavilion before marrying 19 20 21.
Restoration and Marriage
Shi Xiu returns from the Hundred Broken Mountains with the Ageless Spring, hoping both to restore Willow Deity and obtain her help defending the Heaven Mending Pavilion. Yun Xi presents the spring as an introductory gift 47 48.
After absorbing it, Willow Deity recovers her true form to a limited extent within Stone Village and decides to marry Shi Xiu that night. The Village Chief organizes the celebration, and Yun Xi serves as bridesmaid 49.
Wedding-Night Boundary Sea Journey
Rather than an ordinary wedding night, Willow Deity leads Shi Xiu on a spiritual journey to the Boundary Sea. She recovers lost memories before withdrawing from the being later identified as the Corpse Immortal Emperor 50.
Their visit alerts dormant powers to Shi Xiu’s constitution. The Corpse Immortal Emperor and other ancient beings send female disciples to investigate and compete for his Dao companionship 50.
