Heavenly Venerable Lingbao was one of the nine great Heavenly Venerables of the Mythological Era, which lay at least several million years before the present age. In other words, the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords had rested in the Life Spring within the Bitter Sea for an exceedingly long time.

Although Lu Chen had obtained Heavenly Venerable Lingbao's ancient scripture on Tianling Ancient Star and could make the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords restrain their killing intent, taking them now was all but impossible.
Hundreds of thousands of years ago, the Six-Eared Macaque had obtained Heavenly Venerable Lingbao's ancient hall and even moved it into this Life Spring. The macaque must have received the Heavenly Venerable's inheritance as well, yet still had not obtained the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords.
Ancient legends held that Heavenly Venerable Lingbao had once said that as long as the Supreme Formation Diagram and the Four Killing Swords emerged together, he could become an immortal.
Lu Chen suspected that this involved certain arrangements and methods of immortality left by the ancient Heavenly Venerable. Neither could be disturbed recklessly, which was why no one had managed to pluck away the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords throughout those long years.
