After coming down from the fourth floor, Luo Yuan followed a staff member to a private training room. The Alloy Gate closed behind him. He had no interest in the exercise equipment inside and sat down cross-legged instead. It was time to reap his rewards.
"Attribute Fusion!"
With a thought from Luo Yuan, the bubbles in his attribute space began to burst. Agonizing pain tore through his brain, a torment inflicted on his mind itself. He passed out from the pain.
"Beep, beep, beep~"
A rather noisy electronic alarm woke Luo Yuan from his unconscious state. He sat up in a daze, holding his head and rubbing it.
"Dear user, you have spent four hours in the training room. Moderate training benefits the mind, but excessive training harms the body. Manage your time wisely and enjoy a healthy life."
"Well, well, this private training room even has an anti-addiction feature." Remembering the days he had spent playing games in his previous life, Luo Yuan couldn't help chuckling.
"Open my personal attribute panel."
Name: Luo Yuan Strength level: Apprentice Level (Intermediate Warrior) Power: 2,200 kg Speed: 45 m/s Defense: 2,200 kg Spiritual power: 1,500 kg Cultivation method: None Skills: Movement technique (micro level)
Luo Yuan frowned at his attributes. Apart from his Mental Power tripling, his other attributes had barely increased. It seemed his guess had been right. As he grew stronger, the attribute points provided by trainees and monsters below the Warrior level were no longer enough to support his growth. He would have to collect attributes somewhere with a concentration of beings at the Warrior level or above.
According to this world's rules, a Psychic Master's physical condition was generally two levels below their Spiritual Force. If their body was at the Beginner Warrior level, their Spiritual Force would usually be at the Advanced Warrior Level! If their body was at the Intermediate Warrior level, their Spiritual Force would be at the Junior War General level...
But Luo Yuan was different from those conventional Psychic Masters. They were all exceptionally gifted people who had awakened their powers on their own, while Luo Yuan strengthened his Mental Power by collecting attributes. This world's standards couldn't be used to measure him. Still, he had an advantage over its Psychic Masters. A person's innate spiritual potential was finite, but as long as there were spiritual attributes for Luo Yuan to collect, his Mental Power could grow without limit.
Psychic Masters fell into three main categories. The first controlled objects! They could manipulate things like spikes and throwing knives to launch ranged attacks! Objects controlled remotely by a Psychic Master were far more formidable than bullets fired by heavy sniper rifles. A sniper bullet traveled in an almost straight line, but weapons controlled by a Psychic Master moved unpredictably! Not only were their trajectories unpredictable, their destructive power differed as well.
The second type mainly used direct mental attacks! This type was rather mysterious, attacking the souls of people or monsters directly. If the attack succeeded, a monster would drop dead without a single injury on its body! Attacking souls was difficult, however, and the target had to be two levels below the attacker. It was said that very, very few Psychic Masters knew how to perform a "mental attack."
The third type seemed to involve Beast Taming, but Luo Yuan knew very little about it.
Leaving the training room, Luo Yuan looked at the night sky outside the window. It was already evening. He really did lose track of time while training. A staff member was waiting for him at the door.
"Mr. Luo Yuan, the curator asked me to give these to you. Here's the key to the detached villa assigned to you, along with its exact address. It's in the Mingyue Residential Area, and we've already sent someone to clean it for you. This gold card contains ten million in Huaxia Currency. The PIN is written on the back. Is there anything else you need?"
"No, that's everything. Thank you for your hard work."
Looking at the key and gold card in his hand, Luo Yuan couldn't help marveling at Curator Jiang's efficiency. Talented people really were valued wherever they went.
Luo Yuan took a bus back to the low-rent apartment in the South Bank Residential District and found Xu Qian lying on the sofa watching a movie. It felt rather novel to him. He rarely saw her at home in the evening. It seemed her injuries this time were quite serious.
"Qian, there's something I need to tell you. I'm moving out tomorrow. The Limitless Martial Hall recruited me early and assigned me a detached villa in the Mingyue Residential Area." Luo Yuan sat down beside Xu Qian. The delightful scent of her perfume left his thoughts wandering despite himself.
"Oh, the Limitless Martial Hall moved pretty quickly. What have you decided?"
Xu Qian tilted her head and studied Luo Yuan, a hint of anticipation in her beautiful, alluring eyes. She had grown rather fond of this younger fellow, though not in a romantic sense. It was merely admiration. After all, their relationship hadn't reached that stage, and the age gap made her reluctant.
"I've thought it over, and I won't be joining your organization. As for practical combat experience, I can ask people at the Limit Hall to spar with me. So, I'm sorry." Luo Yuan sounded a little guilty. After all, the woman before him had helped him a great deal.
"Hahaha, it's fine. Joining only the Limitless Martial Hall is a good choice too. The Underground Alliance isn't all that great anyway. It just means I won't get to eat your cooking anymore. Honestly, you're pretty good at it." Xu Qian laughed as though she didn't mind, but the regret in her eyes betrayed her.
"Qian, why don't you come live in my villa? It's much better than this low-rent apartment," Luo Yuan suddenly suggested.
"Oh? Are you offering to keep me, little brother? Or do you want to hide a beauty away in a luxurious home~?" Xu Qian winked at Luo Yuan, her tone teasing.
"No, no, it was just an idea," Luo Yuan hurriedly explained. In truth, he had simply blurted it out.
"Never mind. I'm an assassin. I'm used to living alone, and I need to keep a low profile. If I wanted to live in a villa, I never would have moved here. I appreciate the offer, though. Just don't pretend you don't know me if we run into each other later." Xu Qian waved a hand, a trace of sadness in her eyes.
Back in his bedroom, Luo Yuan went over everything he had experienced since coming to this world. It all felt like a dream. Yet this world felt so real, and its people were so vividly alive, especially the woman who shared his apartment. Although he didn't know much about her, he could tell she was a good person.
Early the next morning, Luo Yuan made breakfast for Xu Qian as usual, then quietly left the South Bank Residential District, pulling his suitcase behind him. Xu Qian didn't come out to see him off, and he couldn't help giving a self-mocking smile. What he didn't know was that she was standing by the window, watching him walk farther and farther away.
Later that morning, six soldiers armed with loaded weapons stood ramrod straight on either side of the Mingyue Residential Area's main gate, their eyes scanning the surroundings.
"Stop!" One of the soldiers immediately raised his assault rifle and aimed it at the approaching taxi.
"Screech!" The taxi immediately slammed on its brakes.
Luo Yuan got out. The white-haired old man in the Mingyue Residential Area's guardroom seemed to have been informed of his arrival beforehand. After checking his ID and key, he let him through.
Inside the residential area, Luo Yuan looked at the Limit Hall in the center, then at the little bridges and flowing streams, the ornamental rock gardens and ponds, and the detached villas nestled among the bridges and waterways. He smiled in satisfaction. When he reached his villa and saw "No. 200" on its gate, he raised his eyebrows. It was quite an auspicious number.
