Background

Obito was once Minato Namikaze’s student and Kakashi Hatake’s teammate. After witnessing Rin Nohara’s death, he accepted Madara Uchiha’s Eye of the Moon Plan, believing it could create a world in which Rin lived and all past suffering could be undone. Madara also bound him with a cursed seal to secure his obedience as successor. 461 581

During the Nine-Tails Attack, Obito concealed himself behind a mask and controlled the Nine-Tails with his Mangekyō Sharingan. When Minato failed to recognize him, Obito used that anonymity to suppress his remaining attachment to his teacher and attack without restraint. 581

Obito’s actions are dominated by his fixation on Rin Nohara. He was willing to betray Minato and Kushina, embrace the Eye of the Moon Plan, and dismiss the consequences of his actions because he believed everything could be repaired in a recreated world with Rin. 581 675

He is capable of careful deception and long-term concealment. As Tobi, he performs exaggerated enthusiasm and pretends to admire Kenichi Amamiya in order to stay close enough to investigate him, even when the act humiliates him. 195 268

Rin remains his greatest weakness. Her resurrection leaves him anxious and indecisive, while threats to her memory or apparent death drive him into uncontrolled fury and mass violence. 442 450 471

Obito is introduced to Akatsuki’s newer members as an unringed operative. He immediately takes an interest in Kenichi’s Three-Tomoe Sharingan and questions whether Kenichi is an Uchiha. 64

When Kenichi threatens his secrecy, Obito is forced to preserve his Tobi persona rather than retaliate. Kenichi exploits Tobi’s claimed admiration to make Obito assist in creating a distraction for the Uchiha Clan’s escape from Konoha. 195

Conflict with Kenichi Amamiya

Kenichi prepares a thermobaric explosive inside the Kamui Dimension after learning that Obito is watching him. 183 185 During the attack on Konoha, Obito confronts Kenichi with Kamui and Wood Release, but the hidden explosive detonates in Kamui’s space, severely injuring him and costing him his left eye. 294 295

Afterward, Obito becomes convinced that Kenichi knows his true identity. He begins treating Kenichi as a personal enemy even without conclusive proof of how the Kamui trap was set. 295 343

Rin’s Resurrection

Kenichi reveals that Rin is alive in the Land of Water, breaking Obito’s composure in front of Akatsuki. 441 Obito races to find her, but freezes when he sees her living normally and flees rather than approach her. 442

Seeing Rin interact warmly with Kenichi nearly causes Obito to lose control. He restrains himself only because he cannot bring himself to endanger her. 443

Collapse and Death

After losing Rin again, Obito goes on a Wood Release rampage that kills everyone in Hot Spring Town. 471 He subsequently attacks Kenichi openly, no longer trying to conceal his identity, but is overwhelmed by Kenichi’s forces and killed by Black Zetsu after revealing information about Madara’s plans. 473

A later confrontation depicts Minato, Kushina, and Kakashi exposing Obito’s identity. Realizing that Madara’s promised world was an illusion and overwhelmed by regret, Obito allows Kakashi to kill him in the same manner as Rin’s death. 581
