Chen Shi's eyes widened as he stared blankly at the rainbow pillar of light soaring into the sky nearby. He felt as though he'd been duped.
Weren't they supposed to be looking for a sleeping Xerneas?
Why did it look like she was about to wake up?
After two seconds of silence, Chen Shi turned to Mew, who had returned to his shoulder.
"Don't you owe me an explanation?"
Mew nodded lightly and pulled a black-and-red feather out of nowhere.

At that moment, he really wanted to let loose with a string of curses.
Beside him, Steven and Diantha were brimming with excitement.
"Old Chen, is Xerneas about to wake up?"
"Yeah, yeah! With all this commotion, Xerneas must be waking up, right?"
Chen Shi looked utterly exasperated as he said through gritted teeth, "Isn't it obvious?"
"If Xerneas isn't waking up, who is? Me?"

For some reason, both of them felt that something was off about Chen Shi. He seemed awfully irritated.
So, after exchanging a glance, they tacitly agreed not to speak again and stared straight toward Xerneas.
What they failed to notice was that Beedrill, restrained by Jirachi, was watching the awakening Xerneas with unbridled excitement.
Chen Shi's earlier guess had been right. Beedrill had been born here, and the aura Xerneas occasionally leaked was what had allowed it to become so strong.
It had tried to stop Chen Shi and the others from approaching this place solely to protect Xerneas.
It had never imagined that these humans had actually come here to awaken Xerneas!
At that thought, Beedrill looked at Chen Shi with a hint of resentment.
