Kanto region, Pallet Town, outside Professor Oak's Laboratory.
"Hello, I have an appointment with Professor Oak. My name is Severe Indecisiveness."
The security guard's mouth twitched at the name, but he still took out the appointment list to check.
Finding that there really was someone by that name on the list, the guard opened the laboratory gates and let Chen Shi inside.
After entering the laboratory, Chen Shi carefully examined the facilities.
This probably wasn't the main research area. Instead of the research equipment he had imagined, it contained everyday amenities.
Just as Chen Shi was looking around, a voice suddenly rang out behind him.
"Hey, who are you? How did you get in?"
He turned around to find a brown-haired boy of about seven or eight looking at him curiously.
Chen Shi realized that this must be Professor Oak's grandson, Gary.
He hadn't expected Gary to still be under ten, though that age did fit the timeline.
Then Chen Shi smiled. "Hey, little guy, is Professor Oak here?"
"I have an appointment with him."
"You're looking for my grandpa?" Gary pursed his lips. "He's in the backyard watching his Pokémon right now."
"Come with me."
With that, Gary walked over to a door and motioned for Chen Shi to follow.
Gary soon led him deeper into the laboratory and out into the backyard, where the laboratory's Pokémon usually lived.
There were small patches of forest and lakes here, with all kinds of Pokémon living happily among them.
By the river, Chen Shi also spotted more than a dozen adorable Squirtle. These were probably the Starter Pokémon Professor Oak would be handing out.
