The cave was not as dark as he had imagined, but the breeze blowing through it carried a noticeable dampness and moisture.
"Marshtomp, can you sense which direction the water is in?"
"Maru!"
After entering the cave, Yong had let Marshtomp out. Although its feelers were not much use for detection in battle, they were excellent at finding water.

The feeler on its head swayed slightly. It closed its eyes and slowly sniffed the air, then gave a soft cry, signaling for Yong to follow.
The cave passage was covered in patches of water. After being soaked for so long, the floor was slippery underfoot, so they had to feel their way forward carefully.
They walked for a long time without encountering a single Pokémon.
Yong was in no hurry. He followed Marshtomp onward, and before long, they reached a fork.

Marshtomp twitched its feeler, then ran toward the tunnel on the right. Seeing this, Yong picked up a few loose stones and placed them at the entrance to the left tunnel as a marker, so he would not lose his way on the return trip.
If he was right, the left tunnel led toward Rustboro City.
He followed Marshtomp deeper into the cave. Stalactites of all sizes covered the walls here, while grooves carved by flowing water crisscrossed the floor.
Now, even without the cave breeze, Yong could feel the moisture filling the air.
Cold and damp.
A rushing sound gradually drifted out from deep within the cave.
It looks like the waterfall is up ahead!
At that thought, Yong could not help quickening his pace.
"This is the Meteor Mountain Range survey team..."
A voice suddenly reached his
