"Excadrill, Metal Claw, Crush Claw, and Shadow Claw are your standard offensive moves! With the boost from Swords Dance and the acceleration and impact from Rapid Spin, you could say your offensive style has already taken shape!"
Yong took one of Excadrill's claws and held it up in front of the Pokémon, saying softly,
"Look! This is your strongest weapon! But..."
The sudden seriousness in his tone made the rather pleased Excadrill pause in surprise. Then the boy continued,
"A one-dimensional offense is easy to counter! Your attack power is more than enough! But you have one major weakness that limits your offense!"
"Speed!"
Excadrill was puzzled. Its speed wasn't bad, and it was even faster in a sandstorm. Why would that be a weakness?
Sensing its confusion, Yong said earnestly,
"That's right! Your Ability is Sand Rush! You have a natural advantage in a sandstorm! And your base Speed stat isn't bad either... but have you ever thought about it? Speed isn't just about how fast you move!"
The boy held out a hand and explained,
"Movement speed, move execution speed, attack frequency, reaction speed, and movement in tight spaces! All of these fall under speed! Your movement speed is up to standard, and it's even excellent under certain conditions! You don't execute moves slowly either, since you've become proficient with them! As for attack frequency, attacking with both claws is instinctive for you! But... what about reaction speed and movement in tight spaces?"
"Rapid Spin gives you fast movement over medium distances, but it also makes your body spin! That alone severely limits your normal reaction speed! And this kind of direct attack is somewhat useful for covering large distances, but you completely lose the ability to maneuver in tight spaces!"
Excadrill fell into thought.
While using Rapid
