Ch. 41Joining the Training! The Legend of New Mauville?

Yong and Chengjie trained their Pokémon together on the shore, then discussed their separate travel plans and goals. As they parted ways, Chengjie asked Yong whether he had heard the legend of New Mauville.

  • Steelix, Marshtomp, and Aron made progress through training, and Marshtomp learned Dive.
  • Chengjie arrived at the shore and watched Yong train Steelix, Marshtomp, and Aron.
  • Chengjie sent out Sandslash and Hitmonlee, but Sandslash fled underground when he urged it to train in the sea.
  • Yong advised Chengjie to help Sandslash gradually become familiar with water instead of forcing it to change.
  • Yong and Chengjie discussed their badges and plans: Yong intended to head north to Lavaridge Town, while Chengjie planned to visit Dewford Town and Granite Cave.
  • Chengjie asked Yong whether he had heard the legend of New Mauville.

Ch. 42Training ended, a yellow dog passed by

Yong and Chengjie trained their Pokémon for several days before a storm interrupted their ride back to Mauville City. A mysterious golden Pokémon appeared in the lightning and spotted the boys as they headed toward town.

  • Yong and Chengjie trained their Pokémon, with Steelix sparring against Hitmonlee, Marshtomp learning Dig, and Aron growing stronger.
  • Chengjie and Yong developed a defensive training strategy for Sandslash when it refused to approach the sea, using Marshtomp as its sparring partner.
  • Marshtomp reached level 22, and the boys ended training and rode their bicycles toward Mauville City as a storm gathered.
  • Yong saw a flash of golden light on a distant mountain and wondered if he had heard a beastly roar, but Chengjie dismissed it as thunder.
  • A golden figure raced through the storm and saw Yong and Chengjie riding toward Mauville City.

Ch. 43Gradual change

Weather anomalies spread across Hoenn and neighboring regions, prompting the Pokémon League to investigate before ancient legends were blamed. Back in Mauville City, Yong visited Chengjie’s home and recognized a photograph of Regirock, while a storm broke outside.

  • Weather Institute officials near Fortree City investigated abnormal thunderstorms near Mauville City and ordered Wattson to look into them.
  • Unusual weather and strange phenomena appeared across several regions, and the Pokémon League sent the Elite Four to investigate before ancient legends were said to be awakening.
  • Chengjie brought Yong to his home in Mauville City, where Yong greeted Chengjie’s mother and the recovered Machop.
  • Chengjie showed Yong a photograph of Regirock taken by his father in some ruins, and Yong recognized the Legendary Pokémon.
  • Chengjie questioned how Yong knew Regirock, but Yong dismissed his suspicion and asked where the photo was taken as thunder and heavy rain arrived.

Ch. 44Wattson and Raikou

Yong learned that Chengjie’s father had disappeared while investigating mysterious ruins and Regirock, while Wattson flew into a violent storm over Mauville City to meet Raikou. Wattson reached the summit and greeted the legendary Pokémon, whose power was keeping the storm from striking the city.

  • Chengjie told Yong that his father had gone to investigate ruins where magnetic interference had cut off his team, then disappeared after bringing home a photo of Regirock.
  • Yong suspected the ruins were connected to the Legendary Titans and Unown but kept his thoughts to himself and reassured Chengjie that his father might simply be unable to contact them.
  • A sudden thunderstorm engulfed Mauville City, and a League Investigator told Wattson that officials wanted him to investigate New Mauville’s power plant.
  • Wattson rejected the idea that the abandoned plant was responsible and warned that Raikou, the Pokémon from the Bell Tower, must not be targeted.
  • Wattson rode Magnezone through the storm to Raikou, who intercepted lightning on the mountaintop and kept the storm from advancing on Mauville City.
  • Wattson landed near Raikou and greeted the old friend he had once hoped to partner with.

Ch. 45Divine Office and Divinity! Breaking Through the Lightning

Wattson and Raikou worked together to draw the lightning from a dangerous thunderstorm into Raikou and keep it from striking Mauville City. After the storm subsided, Wattson wondered what legend was about to awaken, as Raikou had warned him of Ho-Oh’s will.

  • Wattson reached Raikou on the mountain and learned that a legend would soon awaken through Ho-Oh’s will.
  • Wattson brought out Ampharos, Zebstrika, Manectric, Jolteon, and Magnezone to help Raikou draw lightning from the clouds.
  • Wattson’s Pokémon redirected the thunderstorm’s lightning toward Raikou, gradually shrinking the thunderclouds and reducing the threat to Mauville City.
  • Manectric, Zebstrika, Ampharos, and finally Jolteon exhausted themselves and withdrew as Raikou continued absorbing the lightning.
  • Raikou ran into the mountains to release its gathered power, while Wattson watched the rain ease and wondered which legend would awaken.

Ch. 46Mauville Gym! The Electric Maze

Yong reflected on the growing differences between his new world and the one he had expected, then set out to challenge Mauville Gym for his second Badge. He chose the intermediate electric maze and entered, while Chengjie went to watch from the spectator seats.

  • After leaving Chengjie's home, Yong recalled the strange roar, past disasters, and the League's efforts to conceal the recent events, then decided to focus on his journey.
  • Yong slept at the Pokémon Center, and Raikou flashed past a mysterious cave on the southeastern coast.
  • The next morning, Yong and Chengjie rode to Mauville Gym, where apprentice Trainer Harada explained its three difficulty-ranked electric mazes.
  • Yong chose the intermediate maze and entered the right-hand door, while Harada led Chengjie to the spectator seats to watch the challenge.

Ch. 47The Electromagnetic Field Arena, Aron's Buffet

Yong tried to navigate Mauville Gym’s magnetic maze, but had Aron eat through the hard-stone walls instead. After he released Steelix to help, the furious Gym Leader ordered him to follow the Magnemite’s direction to the exit, leaving Yong planning to resume eating if it was not the way out.

  • Yong sent out Marshtomp to search for the Trainer in the maze, but its scan failed amid the chaotic magnetic fields.
  • Yong told Aron to eat through the hard-stone wall, and Aron eagerly began making a passage.
  • Wattson, Harada, Chengjie, and a referee watched Aron’s feast on the screen, and Wattson protested that Yong was breaking the rules.
  • Yong released Steelix to help Aron eat faster, prompting Wattson to demand an immediate rule against damaging Gym facilities.
  • The Trainer inside the maze shouted for Yong to follow the direction of the Magnemite, and Yong realized their magnets all pointed the same way.
  • Yong told Aron and Steelix to finish eating the wall before he went to investigate, while someone cried out over the loss of the hard stone.

Ch. 48Tempering the Heart

Yong endured the Mauville Gym’s Endless Path as it wore down his body and forced him to confront doubts about his rebirth and identity. The system integrated his two personalities, and Yong emerged resolved to pursue the pinnacle of the Pokémon world as Shiyan Yong before entering the next room.

  • Yong followed the Magnemite through the maze while its magnetic field and endless passages drained his strength and stirred negative thoughts.
  • Wattson revealed that he had set the Endless Path to test Yong’s resolve, while Chengjie and Harada watched anxiously from the final battlefield.
  • Yong questioned his purpose and identity as memories of Chen Yong and Shiyan Yong clashed in his mind.
  • The system detected a split in Yong’s personality and forcibly integrated the two identities, resolving the crisis.
  • Yong accepted the name Shiyan Yong, opened the stone door, and stepped into a room filled with flashing electricity.

Ch. 49Showdown! Aron's Growth

Yong battled George in a two-Pokémon Gym challenge and relied on Aron’s training to counter Magnemite. Aron struck Magnemite into a stone pillar, leaving the match’s outcome unresolved.

Yong defeated George’s Magnemite with Aron, which learned Iron Head during the clash, then began the second round against George’s Electrike with Marshtomp. Electrike opened the new battle with Howl.

  • Magnemite’s Spiral Spark and Aron’s Headbutt collided, and Aron learned Iron Head as it pushed through the stalemate.
  • Aron’s Iron Head broke the clash, and the resulting explosion knocked out Magnemite while Aron remained standing.
  • The referee declared Yong the winner of the first round, and Aron received battle rewards before collapsing from exhaustion.
  • George announced that the real battle was beginning, and both Trainers sent out Electrike and Marshtomp for the second round.
  • George ordered Electrike to use Howl, boosting her fighting spirit as Yong prepared for a head-on battle.

Ch. 51Shocking! Marshtomp's fusion move

Yong and Marshtomp defeated George and Electrike by unveiling Rock Storm, an incomplete fusion move that combined Earthquake, Rock Slide, and Rock Throw. Yong advanced to the final arena, where Wattson decided to test his potential.

  • George had Electrike evade Marshtomp's Earthquake with Point-Position Jump and race toward it with Quick Attack and Ice Fang.
  • Yong ordered Marshtomp to use its special training, and it unleashed Rock Storm, disrupting Electrike's speed and burying it under shattered rocks.
  • Wattson and the observers reacted with surprise to Marshtomp's fusion move as George conceded defeat and congratulated Yong.
  • The referee declared Marshtomp the winner, and Yong received Training Points and experience while Rock Storm remained at beginner proficiency.
  • Wattson prepared to test Yong in the final arena.

Ch. 52Superspeed Voltorb! Wattson's guidance

Yong faced Wattson in a Gym battle and learned how the Mauville Gym’s magnetic arena amplified Voltorb’s speed and attacks. Wattson left him with advice about studying the battlefield and using its conditions strategically.

  • Chansey healed Marshtomp and Aron after Yong’s previous battle, and Yong recalled them before entering the arena.
  • Yong met Wattson, who joked that the battle would help him work off the food Aron had eaten.
  • Wattson sent out Voltorb, and Yong chose Marshtomp after seeing Voltorb’s powerful moves and its Aftermath ability.
  • Voltorb used Tackle at great speed and knocked Marshtomp back.
  • Wattson explained that Voltorb had created an Electromagnetic Field Arena and used Magnet Rise to reduce air resistance and accelerate its Tackle.
  • Yong thanked Wattson for teaching him to observe and use the battlefield’s conditions.

Ch. 53It's been a while, Steelix!

Yong defeated Wattson’s Voltorb with Marshtomp, but Raichu quickly knocked Marshtomp out in the second round. Yong sent out Steelix for the third round, revealing how they had trained and grown together.

  • Yong used Marshtomp’s Water Gun, Protect, Counter, and Mud Shot to defeat Wattson’s Voltorb and win the first round.
  • Wattson sent out Raichu, who used Disarming Voice to knock Marshtomp out and win the second round.
  • Yong recalled Marshtomp and sent out Steelix for the third round.
  • Yong reflected on Steelix’s growth from an ordinary Onix through training and resources from President Stone.
  • Steelix roared with a powerful presence, and Wattson wondered whether he had the potential to become an overlord.

Ch. 54Steelix's strength

Yong and Steelix defeated Wattson's Raichu in the third round after overcoming a surprise counterattack, leaving Yong one victory away from earning the Dynamo Badge. Wattson sent out his next Pokémon for the final round.

  • Wattson ordered Raichu to use Charm, but Steelix interrupted it with Screech and burrowed underground with Dig.
  • Yong used Sand Tomb to trap Raichu and expose it among its Double Team copies, then sent Steelix into a series of attacks.
  • Raichu countered Steelix's Slam with Disarming Voice and Draining Kiss, draining Steelix's stamina and prompting Wattson to warn Yong not to lower his guard.
  • Yong ordered Steelix to meet Raichu's Iron Tail head-on, and Steelix knocked Raichu out with a powerful strike.
  • Wattson sent out his Pokémon for the final round, and electric currents surged across the battlefield.

Ch. 55Rock Solid's effects! Earning the badge

Yong defeated Wattson’s Electabuzz with Steelix and earned the Dynamo Badge, while hiding how little damage Steelix had taken. Steelix reached the advanced tier, and Yong asked Wattson how to enter the Desert Ruins.

  • Wattson sent Electabuzz against Steelix, whose Rock Solid talent blunted its Fire- and Fighting-type attacks.
  • Yong ordered Steelix to bind Electabuzz and slam him, but Electabuzz recovered and knocked Steelix down with Low Kick.
  • Yong had Steelix block Brick Break with Protect and finish Electabuzz with Iron Tail.
  • Wattson praised Steelix, awarded Yong the Dynamo Badge, and recalled Electabuzz.
  • Steelix reached level 30 and the advanced tier, earning the Heavy Slam Technical Machine, and Yong asked Wattson how to enter the Desert Ruins.

  • Yong used Steelix to carry himself and Zubat up to the cave entrance.
  • Yong returned Zubat to its colony, where Golbat greeted it and spoke with it.
  • Golbat gave Yong a round stone before carrying Zubat deeper into the cave.
  • Yong recognized the stone as a Key Stone and wondered whether the cave held Mega Stones too.

Ch. 58The Great Desert's First Lesson

Yong entered the great desert with Marshtomp and quickly learned how harsh it was when blowing sand left them lost. He and his Pokémon found shelter for the night, while Steelix kept watch, and Yong remained determined to find the Pokémon he wanted as his partner.

  • Yong’s search for injured Pokémon in the great canyon sparked rumors of treasure, and a plump trainer found a Moon Stone there after Yong had already left.
  • Yong prepared for the desert and followed Route 111 through a narrow passage into the blowing sand.
  • Yong and Marshtomp lost their bearings in the sandstorms, so they searched for shelter before nightfall.
  • Yong released Steelix and asked it to dig an underground shelter beneath a large rock, while Marshtomp wet the tunnel sand and helped clear the entrance.
  • Yong released Aron, shared food with his Pokémon, and fell asleep as Steelix curled around them and kept watch.
