Seeing his younger brother defend Zhu Zhuqing so fiercely, Zhu Zhuyun flew into a rage.
"Even you want to fight me?"
The words left Zhu Zhuyun's lips in an icy tone. Yellow soul rings began to glow faintly, one after another. She was ready to strike. As a three-ring Soul Elder and the future empress of the Star Luo Empire, her confidence soared.
Seeing his older sister crouch slightly, her fingernails gleaming coldly and her eyes turning icy, Zhu Zhufeng felt a headache coming on.
On one side was the eldest sister he took pride in; on the other was his utterly adorable little sister. He was lost, unsure whom to help.
The tension, like drawn swords and bent bows, made the old steward Uncle Fu and Zhu Yang flush. To be honest, this was hardly the first time these three siblings had acted this way, though things seemed to have gotten a little more serious this time.
"His Majesty will be here soon!" The old steward Uncle Fu decided to play the peacemaker, speaking in a low voice.
At those words, Zhu Zhuyun immediately shot Uncle Fu a murderous look, as if to say that this old man must be courting death if he thought he could use His Majesty to threaten her.
Uncle Fu might have been old, but his spirit was not. He deliberately gave the eldest young lady across from him a meaningful look. He had used this trick countless times, and it worked every time.
"You-you damned old man! Hmph!"
Zhu Zhuyun was mortified. She felt uncomfortable all over and immediately leaped out into the torrential rain, cursing angrily. She did not want to remain here for another moment, especially with that disgusting old man in sight.
As the Zhu Family's steward, Uncle Fu was also a Soul Saint. Zhu Zhuyun was not yet an empress and still needed the support of these elders, so she could only deliberately back down.
Watching Zhu Zhuyun leave in such a sorry state, Uncle Fu's aura abruptly changed. He no longer resembled a languid old man, but rather an assassin lurking in the shadows. A sharp, cutting presence radiated from him.
"Zhu Yang, if you have nothing else to do, leave now. Remember to forget what happened today!" Uncle Fu said coldly.
"Yes."
Zhu Yang bowed to Uncle Fu, then disappeared into the torrential rain.
Inside the Guest Reception Hall, Zhu Zhufeng was using soul power to evaporate the rainwater from his little sister. He was exceptionally meticulous, not even overlooking Zhu Zhuqing's long hair. Soon, all the moisture had been dried away.
An exquisite purple storage bracelet appeared in Zhu Zhufeng's hand. He placed it in the hands of Zhu Zhuqing, who stood beside him in a daze.
Small pearls were set all around the purple storage bracelet, with four slightly larger purple pearls spaced around it, shimmering with a mysterious light.
"Brother, what's this?" Zhu Zhuqing asked in confusion.
Zhu Zhufeng gently stroked his little sister's long, beautiful hair, then smiled happily. "Silly girl, this is your birthday present from your big brother. Put it on and see if it looks nice."
Under Zhu Zhufeng's expectant gaze, Zhu Zhuqing put on the purple storage bracelet. Following her brother's instructions, she used her soul power to open the storage bracelet.
It was a simple storage soul tool with little space inside-only one cubic meter. Surprisingly, it contained several sets of clothes. Zhu Zhuqing took one out at random and discovered that it was a tight-fitting black leather outfit.
"Ahem, ahem, ahem." Zhu Zhufeng's face turned bright red. In truth, the bracelet had originally been intended for his girlfriend. He liked seeing his girlfriend in tight-fitting clothes, so he had specifically bought plenty of leather tops and pants in assorted sizes.
"Hahaha, don't get the wrong idea. The shopkeeper who sold me the bracelet probably forgot to take those out. If you don't like them, just throw them away later."
Zhu Zhufeng could not have been more embarrassed. He scratched furiously at the back of his head, wanting to explain but unable to make his explanation sound convincing. In the end, he could only shift the blame onto the shopkeeper who had sold him the storage soul tool.
How could Zhu Zhuqing not know what her brother was like? But she liked him all the same. After what had happened today, her brother was the only one who had treated her so well.
"I like it. Thank you, Brother." She slowly moved closer and tightly hugged his thigh. The cold black battle armor did not make her uncomfortable; all she felt was warmth.
Uncle Fu appeared beside the two of them.
"You two should hurry and get ready. His Majesty will be here soon. And Zhufeng, come to the clan's Elder Hall after the banquet."
"Starting today, you must be careful, Zhufeng. Zhu Zhuqing has awakened her martial soul and has already entered the imperial succession war. From now on, keep your distance and avoid any appearance of impropriety."
Uncle Fu's words jolted the siblings out of their tender moment. The Star Luo Empire Imperial Succession War had continued for so many years without ever changing. Anyone who interfered would suffer severe punishment under the clan rules.
The princes had to compete until a victor emerged, and the losers would be punished.
As the spouses of the Star Luo Empire's imperial Dai Family, the Zhu Family was naturally included. This rule was set in stone. From now on, Zhu Zhuqing would have to win the imperial succession war to gain her freedom.
Once a prince lost, the surviving Zhu Family girl would either be imprisoned at home to grow old alone or lose her life in the struggle for power.
"But..." Zhu Zhufeng wanted to argue, but the thought of the harsh clan rules instantly left him speechless.
He crouched down and gently hugged little Zhu Zhuqing, leaning close to her ear to whisper as softly as he could. "Little sister, always watch out for the enemies around you. Remember, only by protecting yourself can you escape this nightmare."
"Tomorrow, I'm heading to the front lines to defend the border. One day, I'll become a great general of the Star Luo Empire, just like Father, and keep our Zhu Family safe."
After saying that, Zhu Zhufeng stood up and headed straight out the door. His expression had turned utterly cold, and tears threatened to spill from his eyes. He was afraid he would cry in front of his little sister, so he had to leave.
"Brother, take care. Remember to work hard on cultivating your soul power. You're too weak right now. Your little sister hopes our family will produce a Titled Douluo, not some great general!"
Zhu Zhufeng was already crying by the time he reached the corridor. But when he heard her say he was too weak, he almost rushed back to give his little sister a beating.
He was already thirteen and still stuck at the peak of rank twenty-seven, which did make him a little slow. But she did not have to say it to his face! How embarrassing was that?
"A Titled Douluo... ah."
A sigh came from inside the room. Uncle Fu gazed out at the heavy rain and sighed wistfully. Of course he, too, wanted to become a Titled Douluo, but it was simply too difficult. There were only a handful of Titled Douluo in the entire Star Luo Empire.
Apart from its previous clan leader, who had been a Titled Douluo, the Hell Spirit Cat Family had never produced a second one. The current clan leader and his wife were the two most likely to break through that barrier and become Titled Douluo.
Yet they had already been stuck at that barrier for nearly ten years.
Summer downpours came quickly and left just as quickly. This storm did not prevent the Zhu Family Celebration from beginning, and nobles from the imperial palace arrived one after another in their carriages.
The celebration officially began after the Star Luo Empire Emperor arrived.
At the bustling banquet, the adults and children were completely separated. The adults held their own banquet on the left, while the right was reserved for the children of the Star Luo Dai Family. It could quite simply be called a battlefield where the Dai Family's young boys ran rampant.
At the seat of honor, Dai Weisi, as the First Prince, claimed the spacious, comfortable seat without hesitation. A voluptuous woman beside him peeled fruit for him. Once she had removed the peel, she carefully fed it into his mouth.
Dai Weisi looked down at those below with an arrogant, untamed gaze, gently swallowing the fruit in his mouth. Just then, his expression changed. A delectable little prey had entered his sight.
A little girl was sitting in a corner of the banquet hall. She was very young, but her tender little face already held the promise of a beauty.
That was not the most important thing. What mattered was that she wore a black formal dress, making her look like an alluring little girl.
