After their verbal sparring just now, Miwa Chisei felt her throat grow a little dry. She glanced at Satoru Gojo and asked,
"What would you like to drink?"
Satoru Gojo was about to praise her generosity when he suddenly remembered that the money was his-and that he had traded a hundred thousand yen for ten thousand. His mood promptly soured.
Watching the shifting expression behind the high school boy's sunglasses, Miwa Chisei had no desire to investigate. She simply bought an orange soda and handed it to him.
The sweet taste and carbonated bubbles filled Satoru Gojo's mouth, lifting his spirits considerably.
Now that Miwa Chisei had successfully enrolled, he could torment the brat to his heart's content.
That was the second reason for his good mood.
So he said eagerly, "Come report to the teacher with me. Hurry up, hurry up."
Miwa Chisei bit her straw and thought for a moment. "I'll go home and get a few things first."
"You're not going to run away, are you?"
He looked utterly distrustful.
Miwa Chisei sighed, lifting the ill-fitting clothes a little to show him.
"I can't exactly show up dressed like this. It would be rude."
Only then did Satoru Gojo realize that the strange white shirt on the girl was his own. He had thought she had stolen a long dress somewhere, but it turned out she had stolen from him.
Her slender, petite figure gave the shirt an inexplicably different appeal, leaving Satoru Gojo faintly irritated.
"Stealing comes pretty naturally to you, Miwa."
"It's a reasonable loan. I've already paid you."
Miwa Chisei pointed at the orange soda in his hand, looking perfectly unashamed.
What an incredibly difficult brat, Satoru Gojo grumbled inwardly.
"Anyway, what ward is this? Let me figure out how to get back."
She tilted her head at Satoru Gojo, looking a little puzzled.
Spotting his opportunity, Satoru Gojo grinned and pulled his sunglasses down, studying Miwa Chisei with keen interest in his brilliant azure eyes.
"Beg me."
Miwa Chisei's brows creased briefly before her expression settled again.
"Never mind. I'll go find Mr. Geto."
"Shit, you ungrateful brat."
Despite all his fussing, Satoru Gojo ultimately followed Miwa Chisei out of Jujutsu High and back to her apartment in Shinjuku.
On the way, Miwa Chisei commandeered Satoru Gojo's sunglasses, only to discover that they blocked her vision completely. All she could see was a ring of light leaking in around the frames.
With his sunglasses taken away, Satoru Gojo was forced to process vast amounts of information. His brows remained knitted in displeasure, turning his stunningly beautiful face into a scowl.
While Miwa Chisei went to the bathroom to change, Satoru Gojo returned the favor by opening her wardrobe. Half the clothes inside turned out to be dark men's kimono that had been altered.
The damn brat wasn't very old, but she certainly knew how to put on airs.
Seeing him furtively rummaging through her wardrobe, Miwa Chisei looked at him as though he were garbage.
"We can leave now."
She was being quite civil, really. She hadn't called the police immediately.
Satoru Gojo looked at the girl, now back in a dark kimono, wooden sandals, and a spare pair of sunglasses, and mocked her without mercy.
"Can't you wear something normal? You're dressed like some middle-aged guy all day, every day."
Miwa Chisei lowered her head to look at her clothes, her expression turning wistful.
"These were my father's clothes. There isn't much left of the Miwa family, after all."
For a moment, Satoru Gojo didn't know what to say.
But the girl soon composed herself, left the apartment, and headed to Fortune-Telling Street.
The stallholders on both sides of the street greeted Miwa Chisei warmly, and she said goodbye to each of them, telling them she was going away to school.
Miwa Chisei seemed much gentler around ordinary people. She wasn't one for pleasantries, and she responded to their concern and small talk with little more than expressionless nods.
Yet Satoru Gojo felt that this brat was warmer than she appeared.
Once everything was done, Miwa Chisei and Satoru Gojo walked side by side through Tokyo's bustling streets. The sunglasses duo kept drawing strange looks.
"How much is the commission for bringing me back to Jujutsu High? Will you give me half once the job's done?"
Miwa Chisei sounded perfectly serious, discussing financial dealings that hardly suited her age. The two of them resembled members of some shady criminal organization, privately discussing how to divide the mission reward issued by the Jujutsu Higher-Ups.
"Hell no."
He refused decisively, with absolutely no desire to entertain the girl's deranged request.
Miwa Chisei thought for a while, then sighed with some regret.
"I'll need a phone at Jujutsu High. I have to buy one."
"What about the money in the pink cloth pouch?"
Hearing Satoru Gojo's utterly matter-of-fact tone, Miwa Chisei gave him a complicated look. Though she wasn't as sensitive about such things as an ordinary high school girl, rummaging through a girl's underwear drawer was truly scumbag behavior.
"That's my dowry. I can't touch it."
One day, I'm going to squander every last bit of it, Satoru Gojo thought. This damn brat's head is full of bullshit.
Still, seeing how out of place the girl seemed among her peers, Satoru Gojo deliberately teased her.
"Call me Big Brother Gojo, and maybe I'll be in such a good mood that I'll buy you a phone."
His tone begged for a beating, and his expression looked like he was coaxing an underage girl.
A guy who did whatever he pleased just because he was good-looking.
Miwa Chisei kept her gaze straight ahead, her voice calm and clear.
"Big Brother Gojo, buy me a phone."
Satoru Gojo cursed her a thousand times over in his head, but for some inexplicable reason, his ears found that rather pleasing.
"Say it again?"
"Big Brother Gojo."
A sudden sense of victory welled up inside the silver-haired menace, and he grinned.
"I don't feel like buying one anymore."
Hidden inside her wide sleeves, Miwa Chisei's hands had already curled into fists. She took a deep breath to calm herself.
It had to be said that wherever Satoru Gojo was, Miwa Chisei's emotional fluctuations reached historic highs.
"Satoru Gojo, being this shameless will get you killed someday."
"Are you putting a counter-curse on me?"
"If I could."
Satoru Gojo didn't look the least bit bothered. In fact, his expression practically invited her to go ahead and try.
"You're strong, Miwa, but putting a counter-curse on me would kill you too, wouldn't it? After all, I'm-super strong."
What rotten luck. I'd never want to die alongside scum like him.
Miwa Chisei sighed helplessly, beginning to regret her decision to attend Jujutsu High.
"If I buy you a phone, you have to make ten runs to the sweets shop for me."
For once, he said something reasonable. A little excitement crept into Miwa Chisei's voice when she heard it.
"But you have to pay for the sweets yourself."
"Miwa Chisei, can I punch you?"
"That costs extra."
When it came to shamelessness, the Miwa family's brat and the Scourge of the Gojo Clan were truly the pot calling the kettle black.
