After spending half the night hard at work, Miwa Chisei lay exhausted in bed. It was nearly noon, but she had no intention of getting up.
Some of the urns were too old for Miwa Chisei to glean anything from them with her current abilities.
The rest had no connection to Kenjaku. That man existed apart from the Kamo Clan, like a ghost.
Three fingers on her left hand had been cut open and were now wrapped in bandages. Using Reverse Cursed Technique would have been too extravagant; Miwa Chisei still needed to expend a great deal of cursed energy just to activate it.
Her head ached badly, a sign that she had overused her cursed energy.
There had been dozens of urns, after all.
Still, she rallied enough energy to call Mei Mei.
"Mei Mei, someone stole Kenjaku's urn last night. Neither Fushiguro nor I could stop them."
Mei Mei fell silent for a few seconds. She knew how formidable those two were, after all. It seemed the culprit really knew them inside out.
"It's fine. I'll look for other clues. We've already received the deposit, anyway, and we don't have to refund it."
Mei Mei offered Miwa Chisei some reassurance. She took intelligence work very seriously, after all, but this sort of thing was common.
"Okay, I understand."
"Kato Teru said this is a long-term arrangement with no deadline, so we can keep searching."
This was a clause Kato Teru had added later. He knew it was a difficult assignment. It had taken the Kato family over a hundred years just to uncover the lead pointing to Jujutsu Society's Three Great Families. He had no idea whether they could get to the bottom of it in a few months.
That put Miwa Chisei a little more at ease.
