| Name | Jun Chenyu (君沉御) |
| Alias(es) | His Majesty; Son of Heaven 4 31 |
| Gender | Male |
| Affiliation | Imperial court and imperial harem 9 31 |
| Occupation/Role | Reigning emperor 4 |
| Status | Alive; recovered from his poisoning and remains on the throne 29 50 |
| Family | Prince Yi, his full brother; the late emperor, who gave him a treasured jade pendant 16 41 |
Background / History
Jun Chenyu ascended the throne while young and secured his reign amid dangerous court struggles. By adulthood, he held supreme power, though influential noble families remained difficult to confront directly. Wen Yunmian cites his early suppression of treacherous officials when declaring her admiration for him 4 28.
He and Consort Shu grew up as childhood sweethearts. His original love for her was genuine, but he later favored other women to maintain the balance of power at court. He felt indebted to her for this and remained reluctant to punish her even after discovering her misconduct 4 35.
In Wen Yunmian’s previous life, she sincerely loved him, but his repeated suspicions and imperial ruthlessness destroyed that attachment. She recalls a blade wielded by the Blood-Dropping Agents being pressed against her neck. In her new life, she uses her knowledge of his habits to pursue his affection without intending to surrender her heart again 19 32.
Appearance
Jun Chenyu is strikingly handsome, with a tall, upright frame and an imposing bearing 15 31.
- Height: Described as exceeding eight chi, with a straight-backed silhouette compared to bamboo 31.
- Face: Sharp, sword-like brows; long, narrow phoenix eyes; a high nose bridge; thin lips; and a defined jawline 29 31.
- Build: Broad chest and shoulders, powerful arms, sculpted abdominal muscles, and a lean, strong waist 10 29 32.
- Hands: Long fingers, visible veins, and slight calluses from martial training 4 10.
- Clothing: Wears dragon robes for formal appearances, including a bright yellow robe; privately, he also wears black robes and patterned black brocade 16 31 47.
Personality
Jun Chenyu is taciturn, guarded, and difficult to read. His outward composure conceals both political calculations and personal feelings. Wen Yunmian regards him as mercurial: capable of tenderness one moment and lethal severity the next. He particularly dislikes women who openly scheme or flaunt their cleverness 4.
His affection does not eliminate his suspicion. Although he promises to protect Wen Yunmian, he subsequently watches Consort Shu strike her and authorizes a search of her residence during the poisoning accusation. His treatment of Noble Lady Shu is similarly pragmatic: after her miscarriage, he privately considers her no longer useful to his political plans 18 22 49.
He nevertheless longs for companionship beyond flattery and seduction. Wen Yunmian’s learning and Go skill make him take her seriously, while Noble Lady Shu’s inability to understand his melancholy leaves him dissatisfied. Once emotionally engaged, he shows unusual gentleness, concern, and guilt toward Wen Yunmian 19 41 42 47.
