Ch. 1Muzan massacres the family

Chinatsu Kamado woke after Muzan’s attack on the Kamado family and discovered she had been transported into the world of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba. Tanjiro and Nezuko brought her to a village doctor, but when he said he could not save her, Chinatsu opened her eyes and insisted she was still alive.

  • Tanjiro found Nezuko alive but the rest of his family dead, then carried Nezuko down the mountain to find a doctor.
  • Chinatsu woke inside the house, recognized her new identity and the Demon Slayer world, and struggled to move through her badly injured body.
  • Chinatsu fell into the snow outside, where she lay until Tanjiro returned with Nezuko.
  • Tanjiro found Chinatsu breathing, carried her down the mountain, and begged a village doctor to save her.
  • The doctor said he could not help Chinatsu, but she opened her eyes and told Tanjiro and Nezuko that she was not dead.
  • Chinatsu asked Tanjiro to put her down, but he and Nezuko refused.

Ch. 2The girl in the wheelchair comes into her own

After Tanjiro buried his family, Chinatsu decided to join him and Nezuko in finding Sakonji Urokodaki and training to fight demons. Though still weak and confined to a wheelchair, she resolved to recover and master Hinokami Kagura so she could one day confront Muzan.

  • Tanjiro and Nezuko helped Chinatsu stand, but the doctor dismissed her injuries and sent them away.
  • Tanjiro borrowed a wooden wheelchair for Chinatsu, and the three returned to their mountain home.
  • Tanjiro buried his mother and younger siblings, prayed for them, and vowed to avenge them and turn Nezuko human again.
  • Tanjiro told Chinatsu about Giyu Tomioka and his instructions to seek out Sakonji Urokodaki.
  • Chinatsu insisted on going with Tanjiro to train, despite his concerns about her condition.
  • Chinatsu resolved to regain her strength and learn Hinokami Kagura as she imagined confronting Muzan.

Ch. 3A Swift Demon Kill

Chinatsu warned Tanjiro that the blood on the mountain could indicate a demon, then helped him prepare an ambush. Tanjiro killed the demon by repeatedly striking it with an axe, and the siblings continued toward Mount Sagiri.

  • Tanjiro carried Nezuko and pushed Chinatsu’s wheelchair as they traveled toward Mount Sagiri.
  • At the foot of a mountain, Tanjiro learned they had to cross it to reach Sakonji Urokodaki.
  • When Tanjiro smelled blood, Chinatsu reminded him that people often went missing on the mountain and warned that a demon might be nearby.
  • Chinatsu told Tanjiro they would kill the demon and quietly explained their tactics.
  • Tanjiro and Chinatsu reached a temple hall, where Tanjiro threw an axe into a demon’s head.
  • Tanjiro repeatedly hacked the demon with the axe until it could no longer regenerate and died.

Ch. 4Sakonji Urokodaki

Tanjiro killed the demon with Chinatsu’s plan, but Sakonji Urokodaki refused to count it as his test and sent him up a mountain to prove himself. As Tanjiro began the trial, Urokodaki asked to speak privately with Chinatsu.

  • Tanjiro killed the demon with an iron axe, and Sakonji Urokodaki appeared and praised his decisive attack.
  • Urokodaki questioned Chinatsu about her plan, mistook her wheelchair for a disguise, and watched her apologize to Tanjiro and Nezuko for taking risks.
  • Tanjiro rushed to find Nezuko shelter from the sunlight, then introduced himself to Urokodaki.
  • Urokodaki said the demon’s death would not count toward Tanjiro’s test and transported the siblings to the mountain at remarkable speed.
  • Urokodaki sent Tanjiro up the mountain to begin his trial and asked Chinatsu to speak with him.

Ch. 5A special body

Urokodaki discovered that Chinatsu’s injuries were healing with extraordinary speed, without the weaknesses associated with demons. After Tanjiro completed his mountain training, Chinatsu recovered enough to stand and joined him for sword training.

  • Urokodaki examined Chinatsu’s wound and realized her body was regenerating rapidly despite her ability to endure sunlight and lack of bloodlust.
  • Tanjiro returned from his test and collapsed inside the cabin, prompting Urokodaki to begin training him the next day.
  • Urokodaki taught Tanjiro about demons and humans, then trained him to navigate mountain traps and carry a sword.
  • Within a week, Chinatsu’s wounds healed without scars, and Tanjiro completed the mountain-trap training.
  • Chinatsu rose from her wheelchair and asked to train with Tanjiro, and Urokodaki agreed to teach them basic swordsmanship before Water Breathing.

Ch. 6A Kitchen Knife Is Still a Knife

Chinatsu surprised Tanjiro and Urokodaki by cutting a wooden post with a sword, then trained in Water Breathing alongside Tanjiro. The chapter ended with Chinatsu dreaming of the Kamado family at home, where a strange man who looked like Michael Jackson appeared at the door.

  • Urokodaki demonstrated how to cut a wooden post, but Tanjiro's sword stuck in it.
  • Chinatsu cut the post in half and credited her skill with kitchen knives, inspiring Tanjiro to train harder.
  • Chinatsu practiced Water Breathing and discovered its forms produced water-like sword energy.
  • Chinatsu fell asleep and dreamed of the Kamado family living together after Tanjiro left.
  • Takeo opened the door to a black-suited man who looked like Michael Jackson.

Ch. 7The Kamado tragedy

Chinatsu relived the night Muzan murdered the Kamado family, then woke in Urokodaki’s house determined to avenge them and prevent the tragedies awaiting the Demon Slayer Corps. She offered to teach Tanjiro Water Breathing’s Tenth Form, which she had mastered long ago.

  • Muzan attacked the Kamado family, killing Kie, Takeo, Mao, and Rokuta, while Chinatsu died after charging at him.
  • Chinatsu woke from the recurring nightmare and promised to avenge her family and protect Tanjiro and Nezuko.
  • Chinatsu reflected on the deaths and injuries awaiting the Demon Slayers and resolved to avert those tragedies.
  • Tanjiro worried that Urokodaki would break his bones again if he failed to master Water Breathing’s Tenth Form.
  • Chinatsu offered to teach Tanjiro the Tenth Form and said she had mastered it long ago.

Ch. 8Two Exceptionally Gifted Siblings

Chinatsu demonstrated Water Breathing’s Tenth Form, and Tanjiro practiced it while Urokodaki reconsidered their training. Chinatsu tried to recall Hinokami Kagura, prompting Tanjiro to recognize its special breathing method and begin using it.

  • Chinatsu used Constant Flux to cut a large tree in half, then stopped Tanjiro from fussing over her.
  • Tanjiro practiced Constant Flux as Urokodaki watched and decided to revise his training plan.
  • Chinatsu recalled the movements of Hinokami Kagura but not its breathing method, and she performed the dance until she was exhausted.
  • Tanjiro explained that Hinokami Kagura required a special breathing method, and Chinatsu encouraged him to compare it with Water Breathing.
  • Tanjiro tried his father's breathing method, and a faint sunlike flame appeared along his sword.

Ch. 9Urokodaki Was Stunned

Tanjiro discovered that his family's Hinokami Kagura was a Breathing Style, but Urokodaki warned him not to practice it until he had built a stronger foundation. After a year of training, Urokodaki decided Tanjiro and Chinatsu were ready for one final lesson before Final Selection.

  • Tanjiro briefly ignited his blade with Hinokami Kagura, then became exhausted when the flames vanished.
  • Tanjiro and Chinatsu showed Hinokami Kagura to Urokodaki, who suspected it was an offshoot Breathing Style and told Tanjiro to stop practicing it for now.
  • Chinatsu learned Hinokami Kagura's breathing method from Tanjiro but chose to focus on building her foundation first.
  • A year passed as Tanjiro and Chinatsu trained, and Urokodaki watched them become exceptionally skilled.
  • Urokodaki hesitated to send his students to Final Selection because so many of his former students had died there.
  • Urokodaki told Tanjiro and Chinatsu to master Total Concentration: Constant before they could enter Final Selection.

Ch. 10Grinding like mad in the starter village

Chinatsu and Tanjiro trained in Total Concentration: Constant for two years while secretly practicing Hinokami Kagura. After Urokodaki approved their participation in Final Selection, they prepared to leave for Mount Fujikasane.

  • Urokodaki taught Chinatsu and Tanjiro about Total Concentration: Constant, and they gradually learned to sustain the breathing technique for hours.
  • Tanjiro worried that Nezuko had not woken, so Chinatsu reassured him that Nezuko was only asleep and would wake soon.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro quietly practiced Hinokami Kagura alongside their training, keeping it as a secret weapon.
  • Two years after arriving to train, Urokodaki told Chinatsu and Tanjiro they could attend the Demon Slayer Corps' Final Selection.
  • Chinatsu rejected the idea of pretending to be weak and left the cabin with Tanjiro to travel to Mount Fujikasane.

Ch. 11Setting out for Mount Fujikasane

Chinatsu and Tanjiro set out for Mount Fujikasane to take part in the Demon Slayer Corps’ final selection, where Chinatsu suspected Sabito and Makomo had appeared to them. The siblings arrived ahead of the other candidates and waited as the selection was about to begin.

  • Urokodaki gave Chinatsu and Tanjiro Disaster-Repelling Masks and promised to care for Nezuko while they were away.
  • Chinatsu briefly saw what she suspected were Sabito and Makomo, then left with Tanjiro for Mount Fujikasane, determined to make the demon that killed them suffer.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro raced to the mountainside and drew the attention of the other candidates with their speed.
  • Chinatsu recognized Zenitsu Agatsuma, Genya Shinazugawa, and Kanao Tsuyuri among the candidates waiting for the selection.
  • Two children in kimonos stepped before the assembled candidates and began welcoming them to the final selection.

Ch. 12Final Selection

Tanjiro and Chinatsu entered the final selection on Mount Fujikasane and found that their training made the low-level demons easy to defeat. After they split up to hunt demons, Chinatsu spotted Kanao Tsuyuri facing a charging demon.

  • The candidates learned they had to survive seven days beyond the wisteria boundary, then began climbing Mount Fujikasane.
  • Tanjiro sensed an attacking demon, cut off its hand, and then beheaded it with Fourth Form: Striking Tide.
  • Chinatsu blocked a demon’s attack and beheaded it with Water Breathing’s First Form, Water Surface Slash.
  • Tanjiro and Chinatsu agreed to split up and sweep the mountain, with Chinatsu taking the east and Tanjiro the west.
  • Chinatsu encountered Kanao Tsuyuri as a low-level demon lunged at her.

Ch. 13The little Demon King of Mount Fujikasane

Kanao defeated a demon while Chinatsu watched, then Chinatsu rushed to help Tanjiro fight a powerful demon that had killed many of Urokodaki’s students. Chinatsu and Tanjiro killed it with Hinokami Kagura, leaving a rescued examinee amazed by their strength.

  • Kanao killed a demon with Flower Breathing, Fifth Form: Fruitless Peony, and briefly praised Chinatsu as she passed by.
  • Chinatsu returned to find Tanjiro shielding an examinee from a demon that claimed to have eaten about fifty demons and fourteen of Urokodaki’s students.
  • Chinatsu cut the demon in half with Hinokami Kagura: Dance, leaving it unable to heal and causing it intense pain.
  • Tanjiro used Hinokami Kagura to decapitate the demon, which crumbled and disappeared.
  • Chinatsu helped the trembling examinee to his feet, and he wondered whether she and Tanjiro might become Pillars someday.

Ch. 14I Didn't Hurt You Just Now, Did I?

Chinatsu and Tanjiro survived Final Selection and became Mizunoto, while the demons on Mount Fujikasane fled from them during the trial. At the exit, their Kasugai Crows behaved strangely, and they stopped an angry candidate from confronting the officials.

  • Random Passerby asked Chinatsu and Tanjiro for their names, and Chinatsu corrected him when he assumed Tanjiro was her older brother.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro hunted demons throughout Final Selection, frightening the demons into hiding across Mount Fujikasane.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro reached the exit with the surviving candidates, where Chinatsu noticed Kanao and Tanjiro noticed the distraught Zenitsu Agatsuma.
  • The officials announced that the survivors had become Mizunoto and began assigning Kasugai Crows, but Chinatsu's crow refused to perch on her and Tanjiro's crow fled from her.
  • An angry candidate demanded a Nichirin Blade and reached for an official, so Tanjiro restrained his wrist while Chinatsu grabbed his hair.
  • Tanjiro and Chinatsu let the candidate go and cheerfully asked whether they had hurt him.

Ch. 15Nichirin Blades and the return home

Chinatsu and Tanjiro chose tamahagane for their Nichirin Blades and hurried home from Final Selection. They reached Urokodaki’s house, where Nezuko rushed out to embrace Chinatsu.

  • Chinatsu chose a piece of tamahagane and told Tanjiro not to overthink his choice, and the other recruits selected pieces as well.
  • At Demon Slayer Corps headquarters, a frail man praised the strength of this year’s recruits and hoped they would grow quickly.
  • Chinatsu told Tanjiro that Nezuko might have awakened, prompting them to run home from Mount Fujikasane toward Mount Sagiri.
  • Chinatsu reflected on her body’s unusual abilities and resolved to bring back the red flash that had once frightened Muzan.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro reached Urokodaki’s house, where Nezuko rushed out and embraced Chinatsu.

Ch. 16Nezuko awakens

After surviving Final Selection, Chinatsu and Tanjiro reunited with Urokodaki and their awakened sister Nezuko. Nezuko removed her bamboo muzzle to embrace Chinatsu before falling asleep again, while the family settled back into life together.

  • Nezuko awoke, sensed Chinatsu and Tanjiro nearby, and rushed out of the house to reunite with them.
  • Chinatsu comforted Nezuko, and Urokodaki embraced the siblings and welcomed them home.
  • Tanjiro told Urokodaki that he and Chinatsu had killed the mutated demon and most of the demons on Mount Fujikasane.
  • Chinatsu asked Urokodaki to let Nezuko remove her bamboo muzzle while they were at home, and he agreed.
  • Nezuko hugged Chinatsu and called her big sister, then later fell asleep as Urokodaki suggested she recovered her strength through sleep.

Ch. 17Chinatsu's Sudden Idea

While waiting for their swords to be forged, Chinatsu and Tanjiro trained by sparring with wooden swords, and Chinatsu defeated Tanjiro after he switched from Water Breathing to Hinokami Kagura. After lunch, Chinatsu asked Nezuko whether she wanted to learn a Breathing Style.

  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro chose to spar with wooden swords while they waited for their swords to be forged.
  • Tanjiro used Water Breathing's Tenth Form as a feint, switched to Hinokami Kagura, and attacked Chinatsu.
  • Chinatsu jumped over Tanjiro's swing and won the bout with a counterstrike.
  • Tanjiro asked Chinatsu to spar again, and they trained until Urokodaki called them in for lunch.
  • Nezuko praised Chinatsu and Tanjiro's Breathing Styles, and Chinatsu asked whether she wanted to learn one.

Ch. 18The color-changing blade

Urokodaki began teaching Nezuko Water Breathing, and half a month later Haganezuka delivered Nichirin Blades for Chinatsu and Tanjiro. Tanjiro's blade turned black and Chinatsu's turned blue, leaving her wondering what the color meant for her connection to Hinokami Kagura.

  • Nezuko eagerly agreed to try learning a Breathing Style, and Urokodaki decided to teach her Water Breathing despite his doubts about a demon using one.
  • Urokodaki trained Nezuko indoors, where her lack of swordsmanship experience and need for sleep limited her practice.
  • Haganezuka arrived with Nichirin Blades for Chinatsu and Tanjiro and explained that their colors would change to reflect their owners.
  • Tanjiro's Nichirin Blade turned black, a color associated with swordsmen who had rarely advanced far or survived long.
  • Chinatsu's Nichirin Blade turned blue, and she wondered whether she was poorly suited to Hinokami Kagura.

Ch. 19The true color-changing blade

Chinatsu and Tanjiro left Urokodaki’s cabin for their first Demon Slayer Corps mission, and Chinatsu discovered that her Nichirin Blade changed color when she switched to Hinokami Kagura. They reached the town where young girls had been disappearing, and Tanjiro detected a demon nearby.

  • A crow ordered Chinatsu and Tanjiro to investigate a village where young girls had been vanishing, and Urokodaki gave them a special box for Nezuko.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro left Urokodaki’s cabin with Nezuko hidden in the box on Tanjiro’s back.
  • On the way down the mountain, Chinatsu switched to Hinokami Kagura and found that her blue Nichirin Blade turned black as she performed Dance.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro traveled through several towns before reaching their destination, where Tanjiro smelled a demon.

Ch. 20Shut the door and unleash Tanjiro!

Chinatsu and Tanjiro tracked down a demon that preyed on girls, then Chinatsu used herself as bait so Tanjiro could kill it. After leaving the mansion, the three went out for food, and Chinatsu bought Nezuko a jar of konpeito.

  • Tanjiro used his nose to lead Chinatsu to the demon's general location, and they waited until nightfall.
  • Chinatsu learned the demon targeted women, reassured a girl at a mansion, and disguised herself as the girl's usual target to lure it out.
  • The demon emerged from the darkness and grabbed Chinatsu, but she held its hands until Tanjiro burst in and destroyed its head with Water Breathing, Seventh Form: Drop Ripple Thrust.
  • Chinatsu left a note saying the culprit had been caught, and she, Tanjiro, and Nezuko left the mansion.
  • Chinatsu bought Nezuko a jar of konpeito from a street stall, and Nezuko happily accepted it.
