Ch. 41A clash of strength

Chinatsu and Mitsuri’s arm-wrestling match ended when their strength shattered the stone table, and they agreed to share a meal. After realizing Tanjiro was too gentle to help her improve through serious sparring, Chinatsu asked Kyojuro Rengoku to fight her, and he agreed.

  • Chinatsu and Mitsuri pushed their arm-wrestling match to a stalemate, then shattered the stone table and bumped their heads when it collapsed.
  • Mitsuri praised Chinatsu’s strength and invited her to an all-you-can-eat restaurant, and Chinatsu agreed to go another time.
  • Chinatsu reflected that Tanjiro’s tendency to hold back during sparring had caused her training to plateau.
  • Mitsuri greeted Kyojuro Rengoku, who reminded her that they were both Hashira and she no longer needed to call him Master.
  • Chinatsu asked Kyojuro to spar with her, and he agreed to set aside his minor tasks and see how strong she had become.

Ch. 42Chinatsu vs. the Flame Hashira (1)

Chinatsu tested her Water Breathing against Kyojuro in a sparring match, then changed to Hinokami Kagura and launched a powerful surprise attack. The chapter left Kyojuro facing her fiery strike as their second phase began.

  • Mitsuri started the spar, and Chinatsu and Kyojuro clashed blades in a test of strength.
  • Chinatsu attacked with Water Breathing, but Kyojuro blocked her techniques and praised her polished swordsmanship.
  • Chinatsu stopped Total Concentration Breathing: Constant, and her azure Nichirin Blade turned colorless before becoming black.
  • Chinatsu's black blade caught fire as she switched to Hinokami Kagura, exciting Kyojuro and prompting him to prepare for a serious fight.
  • Chinatsu used Mirage Sun Rainbow to vanish from Kyojuro's view, then attacked from behind with Tenth Form: Brilliant Light of Benevolence.

Ch. 43Chinatsu vs. the Flame Hashira (2)

Tanjiro trained Zenitsu and Inosuke to maintain Total Concentration Breathing until an explosion drew him to the Training Ground, where Chinatsu and Kyojuro Rengoku resumed their fierce duel. Their Nichirin Blades began to glow red as the fight continued.

  • Tanjiro recalled how Chinatsu had persuaded Urokodaki to let her and Tanjiro supervise each other while practicing Total Concentration Breathing: Constant.
  • Tanjiro trained Zenitsu and Inosuke, whose rivalry helped them maintain their breathing until an explosion startled them and broke their concentration.
  • Tanjiro sensed the blast coming from Chinatsu's direction and rushed to the Training Ground, while Zenitsu and Inosuke followed after him.
  • Chinatsu and Kyojuro Rengoku clashed again, and Rengoku recognized the greater power of Chinatsu's flame sword aura.
  • Chinatsu and Rengoku exchanged rapid strikes that sent bursts of sword aura across the ground, and their Nichirin Blades began to glow red.

Ch. 44The Bright Red Nichirin Sword, awakened!

Chinatsu and Kyojuro awakened their Bright Red Nichirin Swords during their spar, revealing a way to hinder demons’ regeneration. They reported the discovery to Oyakata-sama, who called an emergency Pillar meeting.

  • Chinatsu and Kyojuro fought until their Nichirin Blades awakened as Bright Red Nichirin Swords.
  • The gathered Pillars noticed the changed blades, and Sanemi urged Kyojuro to report the discovery to Oyakata-sama.
  • Chinatsu decided to join the report, hoping the Pillars could learn to awaken their blades before facing demons.
  • Chinatsu, Kyojuro, and the others went to Oyakata-sama’s residence and reported the discovery.
  • Oyakata-sama invited them inside and convened an emergency meeting of the Pillars.

Ch. 45An Experiment with Bright Red Nichirin Swords

The Hashira and Oyakata-sama tested the Bright Red Nichirin Swords created by Chinatsu Kamado and Kyojuro Rengoku, confirming that they could stop demons from regenerating. Chinatsu proposed activating the swords with grip strength, and Gyomei Himejima stepped forward to try it.

  • Oyakata-sama asked the Hashira to assess the changed swords, and Obanai Iguro and Shinobu Kocho suggested testing their effects on demons.
  • The Hashira clashed their blades to see who could create Bright Red Nichirin Swords, and every Hashira except Shinobu Kocho succeeded.
  • Sanemi Shinazugawa tested his sword on a demon and found that its severed arms could not regenerate before he killed it.
  • Three days later, Sanemi reported the sword’s ability to inhibit demon regeneration, while the Hashira discussed its short duration and the difficulty of activating it in battle.
  • Chinatsu suggested using grip strength to activate the swords, and Gyomei Himejima stepped forward to test the method with his distinctive weapon.

Ch. 46Turning the Blade Red by Hand!

Gyomei Himejima turned his Nichirin Blade red by hand, prompting the Demon Slayer Corps to train toward the same feat. After Chinatsu mastered it and returned to headquarters, she found Nezuko standing in the sunlight.

  • Gyomei Himejima concentrated his strength and resolve into his grip, turning both ends of his chain weapon bright red.
  • Oyakata-sama urged the Pillars to keep the technique secret from demons until they had mastered it, and Chinatsu named it the Bright Red Nichirin Sword.
  • The Pillars trained intensively, and Chinatsu became the second person to turn her blade red by hand, with several others close behind.
  • Chinatsu left the Pillars and returned to headquarters to check on Tanjiro and Nezuko.
  • Chinatsu found Nezuko standing safely in the sunlight, and Nezuko greeted her older sister with a smile.

Ch. 47Nezuko Overcame the Sunlight

Chinatsu returned and discovered that Nezuko had overcome sunlight after testing it on her own while the others were away. Nezuko celebrated her discovery, while Chinatsu scolded her for taking such a dangerous risk and worried that the story’s events might not unfold as expected.

  • Nezuko rushed into Chinatsu’s arms, and Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke came out to greet Chinatsu.
  • Chinatsu asked how Nezuko had overcome sunlight, and Tanjiro explained that Nezuko had tested it while everyone else ran to the Training Ground.
  • Remembering Chinatsu’s reassurance, Nezuko exposed her hand to sunlight and discovered that her burns quickly healed.
  • Nezuko tested sunlight on her limbs and then stepped fully outside, finding that the pain soon disappeared.
  • Chinatsu struck Nezuko on the forehead for her recklessness and reflected that events in this world might diverge from the original story.

Ch. 48Creating a Miracle

Chinatsu put Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke through brutal training while teaching Nezuko Water Breathing and practicing heating her own Nichirin Blade. Kyojuro Rengoku arrived, saw Nezuko training in sunlight, and marveled at Chinatsu’s latest miracle.

  • Chinatsu assigned Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke extra grip-strength and simulated combat exercises to help them work together to turn their blades bright red.
  • Chinatsu coached Nezuko in Water Breathing as Nezuko trained happily in the sunlight.
  • Zenitsu collapsed during training, then rose in a trance and raced through his exercises with Total Concentration: Constant.
  • Chinatsu practiced heating her Nichirin Blade with her grip until she could turn it bright red in five seconds.
  • Kyojuro Rengoku arrived, spotted Nezuko practicing Water Breathing in sunlight, and called Chinatsu’s achievement another miracle.

Ch. 49Miracle girl

Kyojuro invited Chinatsu and Tanjiro to the Rengoku Family home to look into Chinatsu’s special Breathing Style, and Nezuko joined them. After the Corps discussed Nezuko’s immunity to sunlight, the group set out early for the Rengoku residence, where records about Sun Breathing were kept.

  • Kyojuro told Chinatsu that his father might know about her special Breathing Style and invited her to the Rengoku Family home; Tanjiro and Nezuko asked to come along.
  • At Oyakata-sama’s meeting, the Demon Slayer Corps discussed Nezuko’s immunity to sunlight and worried that other demons might gain the same ability.
  • Chinatsu urged Oyakata-sama to recruit more Demon Slayers and strengthen daytime vigilance, and he agreed.
  • After the meeting, Kyojuro, Chinatsu, Tanjiro, and Nezuko left early for the Rengoku Family home, which held records about Flame Breathing and Sun Breathing.

Ch. 50Shinjuro Rengoku

Kyojuro brought Chinatsu, Tanjiro, and Nezuko to the Rengoku estate, where they met his younger brother Senjuro and his estranged father, Shinjuro. After Shinjuro recognized Tanjiro’s hanafuda earrings as a sign of Sun Breathing and lunged at him, Kyojuro and Chinatsu stopped him, and Shinjuro warned Tanjiro that he was far too weak to challenge the Demon King.

  • Kyojuro warned Chinatsu that Shinjuro had become bitter and withdrawn since Ryuka’s death as they ran to the Rengoku estate.
  • Kyojuro reunited with Senjuro, introduced Chinatsu, Tanjiro, and Nezuko, and asked whether Shinjuro was home.
  • Shinjuro came outside with a wine flask, then noticed Tanjiro’s earrings and recognized them as a sign of Sun Breathing.
  • Shinjuro charged at Tanjiro, but Kyojuro grabbed his shoulder and Chinatsu restrained his wrist.
  • Shinjuro told Tanjiro he was too weak to defeat the Demon King, then returned inside to drink.

Ch. 51A Tragic Man

Chinatsu, Tanjiro, Kyojuro, and Senjuro found that Shinjuro had torn most of the Book of Successive Flame Hashira’s pages out. Kyojuro went to speak with his father, and challenged Shinjuro’s belief that the Demon Slayers were doomed by calling Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s lonely life tragic.

  • Tanjiro blamed himself for being too weak to react quickly when Shinjuro confronted them.
  • Senjuro brought the Book of Successive Flame Hashira to Chinatsu, who found most of its pages torn out.
  • Kyojuro left to ask Shinjuro about the missing pages and to speak with him as a son.
  • Shinjuro recalled the first Flame Hashira’s account of Yoriichi Tsugikuni and concluded that ordinary Demon Slayers could not defeat the Demon King.
  • Kyojuro offered Shinjuro sobering tea and promised to fulfill his father’s dream without dying.
  • Kyojuro argued that Yoriichi had been tragic because others had left him alone to bear the burden of defeating the Demon King.

Ch. 52Mugen Train: Prelude

Shinjuro recovered from his despair, shared the Flame Hashira records about Hinokami Kagura with Kyojuro, and witnessed Kyojuro awaken a crimson Nichirin Blade. The group returned to Corps Headquarters, where the Mugen Train arc began with a demon attacking a worker in the depot.

  • Shinjuro drank the sobering tea Kyojuro had brought and invited him to ask questions.
  • Shinjuro told Kyojuro what the Flame Hashira records said about Hinokami Kagura, and Kyojuro stayed confident.
  • Kyojuro turned his Nichirin Blade crimson and vowed that they would wipe out the demons in their era.
  • Kyojuro, Chinatsu, Tanjiro, and the others left the Rengoku estate, with Shinjuro watching them depart and Senjuro waving goodbye.
  • Tanjiro resolved to become stronger as the group returned to Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters.
  • A demon devoured a girl in the Mugen Train depot, then appeared behind a worker who had come to investigate the sounds.

Ch. 53Off to the Mugen Train

  • Chinatsu insisted on joining Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Nezuko on the mission to the Mugen Train.
  • The group avoided entering the station in uniform and ate ramen at a shop, where Chinatsu ate ten bowls before leaving.
  • Chinatsu and the others waited for the train to start moving, then jumped aboard its rear carriage without tickets.
  • The group made their way through the train and found Kyojuro enjoying a boxed meal.
  • Chinatsu told Kyojuro they had come to support him as the number of victims increased, while Lower Rank One began his plan aboard the train.

Ch. 54A false dream

On the Mugen Train, Chinatsu realized Enmu’s Blood Demon Art had put Tanjiro and the others to sleep, while she and Kyojuro remained awake. Chinatsu entered Tanjiro’s dream and slapped him awake, and Tanjiro returned to reality to find Zenitsu and Inosuke had been slapped too.

  • Chinatsu noticed Tanjiro and the others had fallen asleep, then warned Kyojuro that a demon’s Blood Demon Art was at work.
  • Kyojuro realized a powerful demon had put them to sleep, and Chinatsu prepared to wake the sleeping trio.
  • In his dream, Tanjiro reunited with his deceased family and believed he was home again.
  • Chinatsu appeared in Tanjiro’s dream, slapped him, and told him the world was false.
  • Tanjiro remembered reality and woke to find red handprints on Zenitsu’s and Inosuke’s faces.

Ch. 55Enmu's despair

Chinatsu and her companions stopped Enmu’s hypnotized helpers from destroying their spirits, then joined forces with Tanjiro to locate Enmu’s hidden neck inside the Mugen Train. Kyojuro kept Enmu distracted while Chinatsu and Tanjiro struck with Hinokami Kagura, apparently destroying his neck.

  • Chinatsu and the others woke as Enmu’s helpers approached, knocked them unconscious, and learned from Tanjiro that many were sick and seeking relief through pleasant dreams.
  • Chinatsu said they would ask the helpers about their circumstances and might help them get treatment if poverty had kept them from it.
  • Enmu boasted about becoming an Upper Rank, but Kyojuro Rengoku quickly beheaded him.
  • Enmu revealed that he had fused with the Mugen Train and that the train was his body, while Inosuke’s group attacked its interior and Chinatsu and Tanjiro searched for his neck.
  • Tanjiro pinpointed Enmu’s hidden neck, and Kyojuro kept Enmu occupied as Chinatsu and Tanjiro prepared their attack.
  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro used Hinokami Kagura: Sunflower Thrust to pierce Enmu’s neck and incinerate the surrounding flesh.

Ch. 56Enmu's dying counterattack

Chinatsu and Tanjiro severed Enmu’s neck, while the others protected the passengers from his dying counterattack. After Enmu crumbled away and the Mugen Train stopped, Chinatsu prepared to face the approaching Upper Rank Three, Akaza.

  • Chinatsu and Tanjiro cut through Enmu’s neck, and Enmu unleashed tentacles across the train in a final attack.
  • Kyojuro Rengoku, Inosuke, and Zenitsu cut down the tentacles threatening the passengers.
  • Nezuko fought the tentacles, discovered her blood could ignite her Nichirin Blade with Exploding Blood, and confirmed the passengers were unharmed.
  • Enmu’s head fell from the train and crumbled away, causing the Mugen Train to slow to a stop.
  • Chinatsu braced herself to face Upper Rank Three, Akaza.

Ch. 57Upper Rank Three, Akaza!

After Nezuko’s Blood Demon Art awakened, Akaza, Upper Rank Three, ambushed the survivors of the Mugen Train and challenged Kyojuro to become a demon. Chinatsu refused Akaza’s offer to spare her, attacked him, and surprised him by evading his Compass Needle technique.

  • Nezuko entered the carriage with a Nichirin Blade blazing with Exploding Blood, and Chinatsu recognized the power of her newly awakened Blood Demon Art.
  • Akaza burst through the carriage roof, and Chinatsu and Kyojuro rescued the people beside them by leaping clear of the blast.
  • Akaza invited Kyojuro to become a demon, but Kyojuro refused and affirmed the beauty of human mortality.
  • Akaza offered to let Chinatsu leave because he did not kill or eat women, but Chinatsu refused and charged him with her flaming Nichirin Blade.
  • Akaza activated Destructive Death: Compass Needle and dodged Chinatsu’s attack, but Chinatsu evaded his attempt to seize her and made him question whether she was human.

Ch. 58You Should Become a Demon Too!

Chinatsu and Kyojuro faced Akaza, whose interest in Chinatsu led him to invite them both to become demons. Akaza demonstrated his destructive power and regeneration, unaware that the two Demon Slayers were preparing to counter him.

  • Akaza regretted not offering Kyojuro and Chinatsu the chance to become demons sooner and asked Chinatsu her name.
  • Chinatsu introduced herself as Chinatsu Kamado and stayed silent as Akaza urged her and Kyojuro to become demons.
  • Akaza used Destructive Death: Crushing Type: Ten Thousand Leaves Flashing Willow to shatter the ground, then attacked them with Destructive Death: Air Type.
  • Kyojuro blocked Akaza's air blasts with Flame Breathing, Fourth Form: Blooming Flame Undulation, while Chinatsu dodged them.
  • Akaza attacked Kyojuro at close range, and Kyojuro countered with Flame Breathing, Third Form: Raging Flame, Myriad Forms.
  • Akaza let Kyojuro split his arm, healed it instantly, and continued persuading him and Chinatsu as they exchanged a knowing glance.

Ch. 59Muzan's memories

Kyojuro and Chinatsu fought Akaza with Bright Red Nichirin Swords, and Chinatsu’s red-and-black blade awakened memories of Yoriichi Tsugikuni in both Akaza and Muzan. Muzan ordered Akaza to use his full strength and kill the Demon Slayers, leaving Akaza preparing to attack without restraint.

  • Kyojuro refused Akaza’s offer and attacked with Flame Breathing’s Ninth Form, while Akaza charged with Annihilation Style.
  • Kyojuro activated his Bright Red Nichirin Sword, forcing Akaza to dodge, and Chinatsu closed in behind him.
  • Chinatsu activated her red-and-black Bright Red Nichirin Sword and severed Akaza’s arm, causing him to relive memories from Muzan’s past.
  • Muzan recognized Chinatsu’s blade as identical to Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s and concluded that a Sun Breathing successor still existed.
  • Muzan ordered Akaza to kill every Demon Slayer before him, especially Chinatsu, and Akaza prepared to fight at full strength.

Ch. 60Fierce Battle: Akaza (1)

Chinatsu and Kyojuro faced Akaza, whose strength and combat instincts made him a deadly opponent despite their Bright Red Nichirin Swords. After Akaza unleashed his strongest attacks against Chinatsu, he turned to fight Kyojuro.

  • Chinatsu resolved to fight for a happy ending and told Kyojuro to watch for an opening while she took the lead.
  • Akaza struck Chinatsu with Annihilation Style, sending her crashing into the Mugen Train.
