After choosing his teammates, Lin Guang had Satō Maji go collect their masks.
Satō Maji returned with three small masks. They were still young, and larger ones would easily fall off.
"Thanks for the effort."
Lin Guang spoke to Satō Maji.
Hyūga Jō, however, said nothing. He simply took a mask from Satō Maji's hand and put it on.
"You jerk! Don't you have any manners?"
None of those who made it into the ANBU were mediocre. Satō Maji would not put up with Hyūga Jō and stepped forward to fight him.
"Stop!"
Lin Guang stepped between them. He did not want the two teammates he had chosen to be at odds with each other. If they were, how were they supposed to survive dangerous missions?
Hiruzen Sarutobi had not gone far. He wanted to see how Lin Guang would resolve the friction between his new teammates.
"Lord Third, who is this child?"
An ANBU squad captain asked.
"He's a child I have very high hopes for."
Hiruzen Sarutobi replied.
Why did he not say here that Lin Guang was his student?
First, the ANBU had all sorts of people in its ranks. Someone might fear that Lin Guang's arrival would harm their chances of promotion.
But if Lin Guang was merely someone the Third had high hopes for, who here did the Third not have high hopes for?
Everyone would simply think the Third had brought him in as a matter of convenience, and there would be far less malicious speculation about Lin Guang.
