Naruto used the concentration method Iruka had told him about before, gathering a large amount of chakra at a single point, and finally burst the rubber ball.
Perhaps because he had gathered too much chakra, he even cracked the ground around him and sent himself flying.
Fortunately, Jiraiya had been secretly keeping an eye on Naruto. Seeing him send himself flying, he moved behind him and gently steadied his body.
After catching Naruto, Jiraiya looked down and saw that his palm was covered in burns.

Jiraiya said, partly intending to let Naruto rest for a while.
"All right, let's go!"
After packing their things, Jiraiya set off with Naruto.
"Don't say 'let's go' like some kid bursting with energy!"
Naruto quipped.
"Are you in a bad mood?"
Jiraiya looked at Naruto.
"Because I'm still in the middle of training! There's a third stage, right? I've only finished the second!"
Naruto held up his fingers as he gestured at Jiraiya. He was actually somewhat unhappy.
He had finally managed to finish the second stage of training, only to have to go find that Tsunade before even starting the third. It really was a shame.
"Heh heh heh, you can practice the third stage while we walk."
Jiraiya seemed to have anticipated Naruto's dissatisfaction and said this.
