Ch. 41Chiba Yo's new name

Chiba Yo visited the Butterfly Mansion, where he met Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke before heading with Tanjiro to investigate Hinokami Kagura and Flame Breathing. The chapter ended with Tanjiro startled by Chiba Yo's claim that he could judge the techniques by observing his lungs and blood flow.

  • Chiba Yo checked on Tanjiro and refused Zenitsu's plea to stop taking his medicine, backing Aoi Kanzaki's instructions.
  • Inosuke challenged Chiba Yo to a speed duel, but Chiba Yo declined and asked Tanjiro to demonstrate Hinokami Kagura and Flame Breathing.
  • Inosuke repeatedly mangled Chiba Yo's name until Chiba Yo gave up correcting him.
  • Chiba Yo and Tanjiro went to the Corps training grounds, where Chiba Yo explained that he would observe Tanjiro's lung movements and blood flow.
  • Tanjiro agreed to demonstrate the forms, then reacted with surprise to Chiba Yo's explanation.

Ch. 42The Transparent World

Chiba Yo explained the Transparent World to Tanjiro, who realized his father Tanjuro had once shown him the same ability. Tanjiro could not access it yet, but he resolved to train harder and demonstrated the Hinokami Kagura, whose breathing and techniques Chiba Yo recognized as closely resembling his own Breathing Style.

  • Chiba Yo described how the Transparent World revealed a living body's inner workings and concealed its user's presence, surprising Tanjiro.
  • Tanjiro remembered Tanjuro silently killing a giant bear and urging him to remember what he had seen, then connected the memory to the Transparent World.
  • Tanjiro told Chiba Yo that Tanjuro could see the Transparent World and subdued his presence, and Chiba Yo concluded that his own ability came from innate talent.
  • Tanjiro renewed his determination to master his father's teachings and asked to demonstrate the Hinokami Kagura, borrowing Chiba Yo's Nichirin Blade because his own had broken.
  • Tanjiro performed Hinokami Kagura: Dance, and Chiba Yo recognized its breathing and fiery blade as resembling his Breathing Style while admiring the technique's skill.

Ch. 43Hinokami Kagura & Origin Breathing

After Tanjiro performed the Hinokami Kagura, Chiba Yo recognized that its Breathing Style closely resembled his Sun Breathing and wondered whether both were connected to Origin Breathing. Chiba Yo took Tanjiro to ask Oyakata-sama about it, but they learned he was visiting the Corps cemetery and would not return until later.

  • Tanjiro performed all twelve Hinokami Kagura forms, and Chiba Yo observed their power, limitations, and potential to flow into a continuous sequence.
  • Chiba Yo told Tanjiro that Hinokami Kagura was not Flame Breathing but closely matched his own Sun Breathing, which he had developed himself.
  • Chiba Yo recalled that Oyakata-sama had called Sun Breathing Origin Breathing and suggested that both his and Tanjiro's styles might be connected to it.
  • Chiba Yo took Tanjiro to Oyakata-sama's Mansion, but Hinaki explained that Oyakata-sama and his wife were tending the graves at the Demon Slayer Corps cemetery.
  • Hinaki told Chiba Yo that Oyakata-sama visited the cemetery daily to keep the fallen Corps members company while he was still able to walk.

Ch. 44The Furious Swordsmith

Chiba Yo and Tanjiro left Kagaya's residence after learning how deeply Kagaya cared for the Demon Slayer Corps, then heard that Tanjiro's and Inosuke's Nichirin Blades were ready. When Haganezuka arrived, he angrily chased Tanjiro for breaking his sword while Chiba Yo waited and practiced in the Butterfly Mansion courtyard.

  • Chiba Yo was moved by Hinaki's account of Kagaya's devotion to the Corps and wished the Master well.
  • A crow announced that Tanjiro's and Inosuke's Nichirin Blades were ready, and Tanjiro ran to tell Inosuke.
  • Chiba Yo waited at the Butterfly Mansion entrance to speak with Tanjiro, but Tanjiro excitedly greeted Haganezuka.
  • Haganezuka confronted Tanjiro for breaking his sword and chased him around the Butterfly Mansion for nearly an hour.
  • Chiba Yo recalled Tanjiro's Hinokami Kagura forms, then practiced his own sword swings while Tanjiro and Haganezuka went inside.

Ch. 45Tetsumaru-yama Niji

Chiba Yo learned that Tetsumaru-yama was called Niji and that the Rengoku Family might hold records about Origin Breathing. He demonstrated to Tanjiro that Hinokami Kagura’s twelve forms connected in a seamless cycle.

  • Kanamori told Chiba Yo that Tetsumaru-yama was Niji, who had returned to the village happy after pursuing ancient forging methods.
  • Inosuke battered the edges of both newly forged Nichirin Blades with stones, enraging Kanamori until the others calmed him down.
  • Kagaya told Chiba Yo and Tanjiro that Origin Breathing was also called Sun Breathing and suggested they ask the Rengoku Family about its history.
  • Chiba Yo showed Tanjiro how Hinokami Kagura’s twelve sword techniques flowed together, with the final form linking back to the first.

Ch. 46Layoffs among the Lower Ranks

Chiba Yo taught Tanjiro how to make a Bright Red Nichirin Blade and advised him on training before setting out on a demon mission. In the Infinity Castle, Muzan summoned the remaining Lower Ranks and confronted them over their weakness, then exposed that he could read Kamanue’s thoughts.

  • Chiba Yo explained that grip strength or weapon collisions could turn a Nichirin Blade bright red and suppress a demon’s regeneration, but Tanjiro could not turn his blade red through grip strength alone.
  • Chiba Yo advised Tanjiro to maintain Total Concentration Breathing: Constant to strengthen his body and lungs, and Tanjiro thanked him for the guidance.
  • A Kasugai crow ordered Chiba Yo to eliminate a demon reported in his patrol area, and he set off at once.
  • Muzan gathered the four remaining Lower Ranks in the Infinity Castle and scolded them after Rui and Rokuro were killed.
  • Muzan read Kamanue’s unspoken complaint and demanded that he explain what he meant.

Ch. 47Encountering Muzan / Splitting Apart to Escape

Muzan killed the Lower Ranks in the Infinity Castle, sparing Enmu and empowering him to hunt Demon Slayers. Later, Chiba Yo encountered Muzan in a crowded street, but Muzan panicked at Chiba Yo’s resemblance to Yoriichi Tsugikuni and split apart to escape.

  • Muzan devoured Kamanue and Koyuki, then killed the fleeing Byōga and told Enmu he would disband the Lower Ranks.
  • Enmu praised Muzan’s cruelty, so Muzan gave him more blood and ordered him to kill the Hashira and the Demon Slayer wearing hanafuda-like ornaments.
  • Chiba Yo walked through town after saving a family and sensed a powerful demon disguised as a woman.
  • Chiba Yo tried to lure the demon away from the crowds by inviting her to spend time alone with him.
  • Muzan recognized Chiba Yo’s resemblance to Yoriichi Tsugikuni, lost his composure, and burst apart to flee.

Ch. 48Illusory Fragrance

Chiba Yo failed to kill a demon that split apart and fled, then escaped the police with the help of Tamayo’s Blood Demon Art. He carried Tamayo and Yushiro away from the chaos, unsure of their intentions but deciding not to kill Yushiro for now.

  • Chiba Yo tried to strike the demon as it split into chunks of flesh, but it escaped and caused panic among the crowd.
  • Police officers chased Chiba Yo and fired a warning shot, so he stopped to keep them from shooting into the crowd.
  • Tamayo used her Blood Demon Art, Scent of Visual Dreams, to disorient the officers, and Chiba Yo covered his nose and spotted her and Yushiro.
  • Chiba Yo grabbed Tamayo and Yushiro and fled with them, while Yushiro struggled and threatened to kill him.
  • Tamayo told Yushiro to quiet down and said she believed Chiba Yo would not hurt them; Chiba Yo learned their names and put aside the idea of killing Yushiro.

Ch. 49Tamayo, the demon doctor

Chiba Yo learned that Tamayo and Yushiro were demons who retained their human will, and Tamayo brought him to her clinic to explain Muzan Kibutsuji’s reaction to him. She began by revealing that Muzan had once nearly been killed by the Sengoku Era swordsman Yoriichi Tsugikuni.

  • Chiba Yo carried Tamayo and Yushiro into a forest, where Yushiro attacked him and Tamayo explained that Yushiro had never eaten anyone.
  • Tamayo introduced herself as a demon doctor seeking to destroy Muzan Kibutsuji, and Chiba Yo asked her to prove she could be trusted by sharing what she knew about Muzan.
  • Tamayo explained that Muzan could split his body to escape and was being hunted by her, while she researched a drug to prevent him from splitting.
  • Chiba Yo apologized for his earlier actions, and Tamayo invited him to her clinic to discuss Muzan.
  • Tamayo led Chiba Yo through a hidden entrance to her clinic and began explaining that Muzan had fled because Chiba Yo resembled Yoriichi Tsugikuni, a swordsman who had nearly killed him.

Ch. 50Yoriichi Tsugikuni & Sun Breathing

Tamayo told Chiba Yo how Yoriichi Tsugikuni had nearly killed Muzan and explained why Muzan feared Chiba Yo’s resemblance to him. She shared what she knew about Muzan’s abilities and revealed that Sun Breathing could counter him, leaving Chiba Yo surprised.

  • Tamayo explained that Yoriichi Tsugikuni had cut Muzan into pieces, forcing him to hide for nearly a hundred years, and that Chiba Yo’s resemblance had caused Muzan to panic and flee.
  • Tamayo said Yoriichi had lived past twenty-five despite bearing a Demon Slayer Mark from birth, giving Chiba Yo hope that he might live longer too.
  • Tamayo asked Chiba Yo about his strength and offered to help him destroy Muzan; Chiba Yo said Muzan had only made him feel pressure and that he believed he could have killed him.
  • Tamayo explained that Muzan could turn humans into demons, track and read demons through a curse, mimic human appearances, and survive decapitation.
  • Tamayo named the Bright Red Nichirin Blade and Sun Breathing as ways to counter Muzan, and Chiba Yo exclaimed in surprise at hearing of Sun Breathing.

Ch. 51The truth behind Hinokami Kagura

Chiba Yo demonstrated Sun Breathing to Tamayo, who recognized it as the same style Yoriichi Tsugikuni had used and pledged to help him destroy Muzan. Meanwhile, Muzan recovered from his escape, convinced himself Chiba Yo was not Yoriichi, and ordered Nakime to summon all the Upper Ranks.

  • Chiba Yo performed the Twelve Forms of Hinokami Kagura, and Tamayo recognized the techniques as identical to Yoriichi Tsugikuni's Sun Breathing.
  • Tamayo vowed to develop drugs to weaken Muzan, help find him, and fight alongside Chiba Yo; Chiba Yo agreed to join the search and destroy Muzan.
  • Yushiro worried about Tamayo's plan but chose to respect her wishes and remain by her side.
  • Muzan struggled to heal the wound Chiba Yo had inflicted and panicked because it resembled the wounds Yoriichi had left him.
  • Muzan noticed that Chiba Yo's demon slayer mark was in a different place from Yoriichi's, then entered the Infinity Castle and ordered Nakime to summon Kokushibo and every Upper Rank.

Ch. 52The Upper Rank demons

The Upper Rank demons gathered at the Infinity Castle, where Muzan ordered them to find and kill Chiba Yo. Muzan punished Doma for joking and tore Gyokko apart after his promise to make Chiba Yo suffer reminded Muzan of his wounds.

  • Kokushibo, Hantengu, Gyokko, Doma, and Daki arrived at the Infinity Castle while Akaza remained delayed.
  • Doma greeted the other demons and joked that Akaza’s refusal to eat women had kept him weaker than Doma.
  • Kokushibo announced Muzan’s arrival, and Nakime confirmed that Akaza would arrive later.
  • Muzan ordered the Upper Ranks to kill Chiba Yo and showed them an image of him through their shared blood.
  • Doma joked about Chiba Yo, so Muzan ripped off his head and warned him to obey.
  • Gyokko offered to turn Chiba Yo’s head into a pot, and Muzan responded by killing Gyokko with his Black Blood Thorns.

Ch. 53Kokushibo & Yoriichi

After Muzan ordered the Upper Ranks to hunt Chiba Yo, Kokushibo recalled his final encounter with Yoriichi and went to seek Chiba Yo. Chiba Yo left Tamayo’s mansion with a vision-sharing talisman and headed for Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters, while a distant battle continued beside an overturned train.

  • Muzan attacked Gyokko for speaking, then offered more of his blood to whoever killed Chiba Yo before Nakime transported him away.
  • Kokushibo remembered how Yoriichi nearly killed him in their last encounter and resolved to find the person who resembled him.
  • Nakime returned Kokushibo, Daki, Doma, Gyokko, and Hantengu to their respective locations in the Infinity Castle.
  • Tamayo gave Chiba Yo a talisman made with Yushiro’s Blood Demon Art so she could share Yushiro’s vision to alert him if she found Muzan.
  • Chiba Yo set off for Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters with an uneasy feeling as two figures clashed beside an overturned train a thousand miles away.

Ch. 54The Red Blade Emerged, the Mark Appeared, Dawn Arrived

Kyojuro refused Akaza’s offer to become a demon and fought on to protect the passengers, awakening a mark that restored his strength and let him use his Bright Red Nichirin Blade again. He severely wounded Akaza, who recovered enough to continue the battle and launched another attack.

  • Akaza urged Kyojuro to become a demon, arguing that Kyojuro was exhausted and would die if they continued fighting.
  • Kyojuro reaffirmed his duty to protect the more than two hundred passengers and prepared to fight with his remaining strength.
  • Kyojuro awakened a flame-shaped mark on his chest, grew stronger, and made his Nichirin Blade bright red again.
  • Kyojuro attacked Akaza with Ninth Form: Rengoku, overpowering him and cutting into his body with the red blade.
  • Akaza narrowly avoided a fatal blow, lost part of his upper body, and began regenerating as he launched Flying Planet Thousand Wheels.

Ch. 55Escape/Dream

Kyojuro fought Akaza with renewed strength until Akaza fled from the approaching sunlight. After tending to the immediate danger, Kyojuro collapsed and dreamed of a happier life before others found him and rushed him to the Butterfly Mansion.

  • Akaza attacked Kyojuro with powerful kicks, and Kyojuro countered with Flame Breathing techniques despite his injuries.
  • Kyojuro's Flame Tiger battled Akaza's Destructive Death techniques, but Akaza's final attack was interrupted by the approaching sunrise.
  • Akaza fled toward the forest, promising to face Kyojuro again.
  • Kyojuro stopped the bleeding from his abdominal wound and told Tanjiro and Inosuke to help the injured passengers.
  • Kyojuro leaned against a tree, lost consciousness, and dreamed of his family and companions living happily.
  • Others found the unconscious Kyojuro and hurried to take him to the Butterfly Mansion.

Ch. 56Injuries

Chiba Yo learned that Kyojuro had been gravely injured fighting Akaza and visited him at the Butterfly Mansion. Kyojuro began recovering under orders to rest, while Chiba Yo took responsibility for his patrol area and worried that his own demon slayer mark had caused Kyojuro to awaken one.

  • Aoi Kanzaki told Chiba Yo that Kyojuro had been seriously injured, and Chiba Yo rushed to the Butterfly Mansion to find him.
  • Kagaya explained that Kyojuro had defeated Lower Rank One aboard the Mugen Train and then fought Upper Rank Three to protect the passengers until dawn.
  • Shinobu Kocho told Chiba Yo that Kyojuro's injuries were severe and that he needed at least three months to recover without fighting.
  • Chiba Yo offered to take over Kyojuro's patrol area, and Kagaya agreed.
  • Kyojuro reported that he had awakened a demon slayer mark, while Chiba Yo privately feared that his own mark had influenced Kyojuro's awakening.
  • After Kagaya and Shinobu left, Chiba Yo apologized to Kyojuro for not having gone with him.

Ch. 57Wishes

Chiba Yo delivered a little girl’s letter and thirty beef hot pot lunches to the injured Kyojuro, who learned that the passengers he had saved were praying for his recovery. The letter moved Chiba Yo and revealed that the girl and her grandmother planned to open a Wisteria House to help demon slayers.

  • Kyojuro told Chiba Yo that he had no regrets because he protected every passenger on the Mugen Train.
  • A Kakushi delivered a bag of boxed lunches and a letter from the girl Kyojuro had saved at the train station.
  • Chiba Yo told Kyojuro that passengers were praying for him to recover, and Kyojuro smiled at the news.
  • Chiba Yo read the girl’s letter aloud, thanking Kyojuro and explaining that she and her grandmother planned to establish a Wisteria House.
  • Kyojuro asked for food, and Chiba Yo opened one of the beef hot pot lunches for him.

Ch. 58Training the Three Little Ones

After Kyojuro asked Chiba Yo to train Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke while he recovered, Chiba Yo agreed and went to the training grounds. The boys began training under him, and the chapter ended with Chiba Yo winning a speed contest against Inosuke before he could take a step.

  • Kyojuro asked Chiba Yo to guide Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke as his Tsuguko while he recovered, and Chiba Yo agreed.
  • Chiba Yo found Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke training at the grounds and told them Kyojuro had woken up.
  • Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke chose to begin training that day, and Chiba Yo promised to gradually tailor their training and teach them Sword Techniques and Breathing Styles.
  • Inosuke challenged Chiba Yo to a speed contest, and Chiba Yo placed a hand on his shoulder before Inosuke could even start running.

Ch. 59A "Normal" Training Load

Chiba Yo began training Inosuke, Zenitsu, and Tanjiro, setting what he considered a basic conditioning routine. Inosuke started a rock-carrying squat challenge, while Zenitsu learned he would have to run thirty laps at top speed while maintaining Total Concentration Breathing: Constant.

  • Chiba Yo assessed the three swordsmen and planned training to address their individual strengths and weaknesses.
  • Chiba Yo told Inosuke to warm up by doing two hundred squats while carrying a large rock, shocking all three.
  • Zenitsu mistakenly assumed Chiba Yo was punishing Inosuke for getting his name wrong, and Chiba Yo unknowingly encouraged the misunderstanding with a nod.
  • Inosuke angrily declared he could finish the exercise and began squatting with the rock.
  • Chiba Yo assigned Zenitsu thirty laps around Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters while maintaining Total Concentration Breathing: Constant and trying to run at top speed.

Ch. 60Kaigaku

Chiba Yo adjusted Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke’s training after realizing his first plans were too demanding, then refined Zenitsu and Inosuke’s sword techniques. Kaigaku grew jealous of Chiba Yo’s attention to Zenitsu, but the next morning he approached Chiba Yo and asked him for guidance.

  • When Inosuke nearly dropped his training boulder, Chiba Yo caught it and reduced Zenitsu’s running assignment to three laps with Total Concentration Breathing: Constant.
  • Chiba Yo assigned Tanjiro three minutes of breath-holding practice and used the Transparent World to refine Zenitsu and Inosuke’s Sword Techniques.
  • Kaigaku overheard Kakushi praise Chiba Yo and grew jealous when he saw him guiding Zenitsu.
  • After a full day of training, Chiba Yo promised to increase the trio’s workload gradually, then left them for the evening.
  • The next morning, Kaigaku introduced himself to Chiba Yo and asked him to teach him so he could become stronger.
