Ch. 81Zenitsu's senior fellow disciple

Chiba Yo visited Jigoro Kuwajima with Zenitsu, and the three shared a warm lunch after picking peaches. Zenitsu asked about Kaigaku, but Jigoro Kuwajima said his senior fellow disciple had not written since leaving.

  • Jigoro Kuwajima invited Chiba Yo to stay for lunch and asked Zenitsu to take him to pick peaches.
  • Zenitsu complained about being hit with Jigoro Kuwajima's cane, then declared he would prove he could endure hardship before quickly losing his resolve at the thought of extra training.
  • Chiba Yo laughed when Zenitsu held a giant peach beside his swollen face, and Zenitsu saved the biggest peach for Nezuko or Kaigaku.
  • Chiba Yo, Zenitsu, and Jigoro Kuwajima picked peaches and ate lunch together, sharing a warm, family-like moment.
  • Zenitsu asked whether Kaigaku had sent any letters, and Jigoro Kuwajima said he had not heard from him since he left.

Ch. 82Pride

Chiba Yo visited Jigoro Kuwajima with Zenitsu, suspected that Zenitsu’s senior Kaigaku was the same Kaigaku Gyomei had described, but chose not to reveal what he knew. After Zenitsu and Jigoro Kuwajima parted with pride and affection, Chiba Yo returned to headquarters and found Tengen Uzui overwhelmed by the Butterfly Mansion girls.

  • Zenitsu accepted Jigoro Kuwajima’s explanation for Kaigaku’s absence, while Chiba Yo quietly connected Kaigaku to the demon Gyomei had mentioned.
  • Chiba Yo decided not to tell Zenitsu or Jigoro Kuwajima about Kaigaku’s suspected past, hoping Gyomei could resolve the matter.
  • Jigoro Kuwajima thanked Chiba Yo for looking after Zenitsu, and Chiba Yo promised that their generation would destroy Muzan Kibutsuji and the demons.
  • Jigoro Kuwajima called after Zenitsu as he and Chiba Yo descended Mount Sagiri, and Zenitsu promised to become a Hashira before they parted.
  • Chiba Yo returned to headquarters and found Tengen Uzui carrying and surrounded by Aoi Kanzaki, Naho Takada, Sumi Nakahara, Kiyo Terauchi, and Kanao; Tengen called for Chiba’s help.

Ch. 83Infiltrating the Entertainment District?

Tengen tried to take Aoi Kanzaki and other girls to infiltrate the Entertainment District, but Chiba Yo defended Aoi and Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke volunteered for the mission instead. Chiba Yo then went to meet Kagaya, who warned him that signs of a possible Upper Rank demon had appeared in his patrol area.

  • Tengen explained that he needed female Corps members for an Entertainment District mission, and released Naho after learning she was not a Corps member.
  • Chiba Yo argued that Aoi’s work at the Butterfly Mansion helped the Corps and urged Tengen not to force her into battle.
  • Tengen said he needed three people to gather information, and Tanjiro, Zenitsu, and Inosuke volunteered to accompany him.
  • Tengen accepted their offer and left with Tanjiro, while Aoi thanked Chiba Yo for defending her.
  • A Kakushi summoned Chiba Yo to the Ubuyashiki Estate, where Kagaya told him that signs of a possible Upper Rank had been found in his patrol area.

Ch. 84Everyone's dreams

Chiba Yo accepted Kagaya's mission to kill a newly sighted Upper Rank and agreed to help contact Tamayo about defeating Muzan. He told Gyomei Himejima how Sayo was doing and gave him her handmade accessories, before the chapter showed the children's dreams from their days at the temple.

  • Kagaya ordered Chiba Yo to eliminate a powerful Upper Rank and asked him to help write to Tamayo about planning against Muzan.
  • Gyomei Himejima told Chiba Yo that Sayo's letter had cleared up the misunderstanding that led to his imprisonment, and asked how she was doing.
  • Chiba Yo described Sayo's modest life and her efforts to atone by giving people wisteria sachets, then handed Gyomei her handmade accessories and a sachet.
  • Gyomei accepted Sayo's gifts and remembered the children at the temple sharing their dreams.
  • Sayo told the children that she wanted to stay with them and Gyomei forever, and hoped to make prayer beads for him herself.

Ch. 85The monster in the jar

Gyomei learned that Sayo’s prayer-bead bracelet represented the children she had hoped would always stay together, and he decided not to visit her while demons remained. Chiba Yo began investigating a pottery shop after its owner claimed a monster in a jar had killed people.

  • Gyomei remembered Sayo’s dream and understood that the bracelet’s nine beads represented him and the eight children.
  • Chiba Yo let Gyomei keep the bracelet, and Gyomei decided to send Sayo a reply rather than visit her until the demons were eradicated.
  • Chiba Yo learned that Kyojuro was recovering and left Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters for his mission.
  • Chiba Yo heard police arrest a pottery-shop owner accused of killing people and stuffing their severed limbs into jars.
  • The owner insisted that a monster inside a jar had committed the killings, and Chiba Yo went to investigate the shop.

Ch. 86Was Something Wrong with Me?

Chiba Yo learned that demon-linked porcelain pots had been used to murder people who refused to buy them, while the shop owner had been arrested. He decided to retrieve the confiscated pots and investigate the demon, then left wondering whether something was wrong with him after another person suggested he see a doctor.

  • Chiba Yo questioned a townsman outside the sealed porcelain shop and learned that Yoshireno had recently begun selling crooked, fishy-smelling pots.
  • The townsman told Chiba Yo that people who refused Yoshireno's pots had been murdered, and their bodies and those of their families had been stuffed into the pots.
  • Chiba Yo concluded that a demon was behind the murders and learned that the police had confiscated the pots.
  • Chiba Yo decided to retrieve the pots to protect the police and use them to investigate the demon.
  • The townsman suggested Chiba Yo see a doctor, leaving Chiba Yo wondering whether something was wrong with him.

Ch. 87The Vanishing Pots

Chiba Yo learned that the confiscated pots had vanished and realized he no longer needed to break into the police station to find them. Elsewhere, Gyokko moved his pots into a porcelain shop and planned to kill more townspeople, forgetting Muzan’s assignment.

  • Chiba Yo scouted the police station, then saw officers searching for a suspect carrying porcelain pots.
  • An officer told Chiba Yo that confiscated evidence pots had disappeared and gave him a drawing of one.
  • Chiba Yo recognized the pot from the shopkeeper’s description and agreed to report any he found.
  • Gyokko used his Blood Demon Art to move pots from the police evidence stash into a porcelain shop’s storeroom.
  • Gyokko recalled how he had forced a shopkeeper to sell his pots and killed people who rejected his art.
  • Gyokko planned to turn the townspeople into materials for his art before retreating into a pot.

Ch. 88Upper Rank Five, Gyokko

Chiba Yo tracked down a set of demon-tainted pots and discovered that Upper Rank Five, Gyokko, had used a shopkeeper to deliver them. Gyokko began to reveal his art, but Chiba Yo attacked him immediately with Sun Breathing, leaving their battle underway.

  • Chiba Yo searched porcelain shops for the missing pots but found no trace of them until Shopkeeper One brought him a sack of matching pots.
  • Chiba Yo questioned Shopkeeper One, noticed his evasive behavior, and carried the five pots to a secluded forest.
  • Five enormous goldfish burst from the pots, and Chiba Yo sliced through them with his Nichirin Blade.
  • Gyokko emerged from a pot, introduced himself, and recognized Chiba Yo as the Demon Slayer Muzan had ordered him to kill.
  • Chiba Yo identified Gyokko as Upper Rank Five and struck him with Sun Breathing, First Form: Red Sunset Glow.

Ch. 89Slaying an Upper Rank

Chiba Yo defeated Upper Rank Five Gyokko, then calmly watched him crumble away. With Gyokko dead, his conjured pots vanished, and the shopkeeper Chiba Yo had worried about was no longer in danger.

  • Chiba Yo cut Gyokko in half and then severed his neck before Gyokko could complete his Blood Demon Art.
  • Gyokko unleashed ten thousand slime-fish, but Chiba Yo stopped them with his Sun Breathing, Fifth Form: Hellfire Mirror Wall.
  • Gyokko raged at Chiba Yo and died while Chiba Yo mocked his body and pots.
  • Gyokko's conjured pots and matching pots in the town's porcelain shops vanished after his death.
  • Chiba Yo sheathed his Nichirin Blade and considered the strength of an Upper Rank.

Ch. 90Scum to the Core

After Gyokko’s death, Muzan recognized Chiba Yo as a threat like Yoriichi and ordered the three strongest Upper Ranks to create many demons and distract the Demon Slayer Corps. The Upper Ranks received more of Muzan’s blood, and Doma provoked Akaza until Akaza punched him.

  • Muzan saw Gyokko’s final images and realized Chiba Yo used Sun Breathing and posed a danger comparable to Yoriichi.
  • Muzan summoned Kokushibo, Doma, and Akaza, gave them more blood, and ordered them to create demons widely to keep Chiba Yo and the Demon Slayer Corps occupied.
  • Doma joked about killing or turning Chiba Yo into a demon, so Muzan pierced Doma’s forehead and poured blood into him while revealing Gyokko had died in two moves.
  • Muzan warned Kokushibo and Akaza not to die pointlessly, then had Nakime transport him deeper into the Infinity Castle.
  • Doma teased Akaza about fleeing a Hashira and not eating enough people, so Akaza punched away the upper half of Doma’s head.

Ch. 91The Ubuyashiki Curse

After killing Upper Rank Five, Chiba Yo returned to headquarters, told Kyojuro about his victory, and reported to Kagaya. Kagaya celebrated the Corps’ first Upper Rank kill in a century, but his worsening illness and the Ubuyashiki curse left Chiba Yo urging him to rest as they prepared to destroy Muzan.

  • Akaza dismissed Doma and had Nakime send them both away.
  • After confirming the town was clear of demons, Chiba Yo sent Tamayo a letter and returned to headquarters.
  • Chiba Yo found Kyojuro exercising, told him he had killed Upper Rank Five, and wished him a full recovery.
  • Chiba Yo reported his victory to Kagaya, who celebrated the end of the Corps’ century-long stalemate.
  • Kagaya explained that Muzan’s existence had cursed the Ubuyashiki Clan, and Chiba Yo urged him to rest after he coughed up blood.

Ch. 92Seeing Genya again

After leaving the Ubuyashiki Estate, Chiba Yo reunited with Genya and learned about his unusual ability to gain strength by eating demons. Genya asked Chiba Yo how to become a Hashira so he could earn Sanemi’s approval, but Chiba Yo could not offer him a clear answer.

  • Chiba Yo left the Ubuyashiki Estate feeling troubled by Oyakata-sama’s failing health.
  • Chiba Yo met Genya, who had become Himejima’s student and had grown considerably since their last meeting.
  • Genya explained that eating demon flesh temporarily gave him some of a demon’s abilities and made him stronger, though he did not know whether sunlight could harm him in that state.
  • Genya told Chiba Yo that Himejima had advised him to stay away from Sanemi, and he admitted he was afraid to approach his brother.
  • Genya asked Chiba Yo to reveal how he had become strong enough to reach Hashira so quickly, hoping to earn Sanemi’s acknowledgment, but Chiba Yo struggled to answer.

Ch. 93A swordsman who couldn't use Breathing Styles

Chiba Yo tried to help Genya learn a Breathing Style and chose Water Breathing, the gentlest option. After Genya struggled to draw in enough air, Chiba Yo realized he would need to modify the style for him.

  • Chiba Yo examined Genya and learned that he had failed to master both Wind Breathing and Stone Breathing because of his poor physical fitness.
  • Chiba Yo offered to teach Genya Water Breathing, explaining that he also knew Flame Breathing and Thunder Breathing.
  • Chiba Yo demonstrated Water Breathing at the training ground, then told Genya to imitate the movements and practice the breathing.
  • Genya tried to expand his lungs as instructed, but they could barely take in more air after about a second.
  • Chiba Yo observed Genya through the Transparent World and decided he would have to modify Water Breathing.

Ch. 94Battle in the Entertainment District

Chiba Yo created a mist-based Breathing Style suited to Genya and began teaching it to him. Meanwhile, Daki’s returning sashes overwhelmed Tanjiro in the Entertainment District, leaving civilians injured as he prepared to face her renewed attack.

  • Chiba Yo demonstrated a mist-based Breathing Style that created multiple images and suggested Genya use it to support his fighting style.
  • Genya agreed to learn the new Breathing Style, and Chiba Yo began training him.
  • Tanjiro used Hinokami Kagura: Setting Sun Turn to cut through Daki’s sashes, but others struck several houses and injured civilians.
  • Tanjiro urged the frightened residents to hide and help the injured while keeping his focus on Daki.
  • Daki taunted Tanjiro and sent her sashes slashing toward him again.

Ch. 95Dialogue

Tanjiro fought Daki with Sun Breathing, driven by his anger at her disregard for human life. Daki recalled fragments of Yoriichi’s memories but rejected Tanjiro’s appeal to her former humanity, insisting that being a demon let her do whatever she wanted.

  • Chiba Yo told Tanjiro that Hinokami Kagura came from Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s Sun Breathing and that Yoriichi had nearly defeated Muzan Kibutsuji with it.
  • Tanjiro attacked Daki on a rooftop, caught her leg, and cut through her sashes with the Third Form of Sun Breathing: Blazing Sun Red Mirror.
  • Daki regenerated her severed lower leg as Tanjiro condemned demons for taking lives that humans could not recover.
  • Tanjiro’s questions triggered memories of Yoriichi in Daki, which she mistook for memories of Chiba Yo and suspected belonged to Muzan.
  • Daki told Tanjiro that her past no longer mattered and declared that demons could do whatever they wanted.

Ch. 96Awakening: Slaying an Upper Rank?

Tanjiro fought Daki after realizing she could not be reasoned with, and used a dangerous breathing method taught by Chiba Yo to unleash a powerful Sun Breathing attack. He beheaded Daki, leaving her head flying into the air.

  • Daki attacked Tanjiro with eight sashes, but he cut through them with Sun Breathing and wounded her without severing her neck.
  • Daki expanded her attack to thirteen sashes, and Tanjiro pinned them to the roof to keep them from endangering others.
  • Tanjiro recalled Chiba Yo's warning about a breathing method that could damage his organs and shorten his lifespan, then compressed his organs to draw in more air.
  • Tanjiro used Sun Breathing, Eleventh Form: Sun Halo Dragon Head Dance, to burn through Daki's sashes and strike her neck.
  • Tanjiro's blade cut through Daki's neck, and her head flew into the air.

Ch. 97Gyutaro

Tanjiro beheaded Daki but realized she had not died when she called for her brother, Gyutaro, who emerged from her body. Gyutaro crushed Tanjiro’s Nichirin Blade and knocked him onto another rooftop, then set Daki’s head back in place and approached Tanjiro with his Blood Sickles.

  • Tanjiro tried to leave after beheading Daki, but her continued crying and failure to crumble made him suspect she was still alive.
  • Gyutaro emerged from Daki’s body, and Tanjiro charged him with his Nichirin Blade.
  • Gyutaro caught Tanjiro’s blade, crushed its end, and kicked Tanjiro onto another rooftop.
  • Gyutaro set Daki’s head back on her neck and comforted her as she complained about Tanjiro.
  • Gyutaro took up his Blood Sickles and walked toward the injured Tanjiro.

Ch. 98Powerlessness

Tanjiro struggled against Gyutaro while trying to protect an innocent man and Nezuko. Gyutaro killed the man and severed Nezuko’s arm, then offered to turn Tanjiro into a demon.

  • Gyutaro mocked Tanjiro’s injuries and repeatedly knocked him down as Tanjiro forced himself to stand.
  • A drunken man came outside, and Gyutaro seized him to taunt Tanjiro and threaten his life.
  • Tanjiro charged to save the man as Nezuko and Daki joined the fight, but Gyutaro crushed the man’s neck.
  • Gyutaro’s Blood Scythe severed Nezuko’s arm, and Tanjiro carried her away from him.
  • Gyutaro recognized Nezuko as Tanjiro’s sister and offered to turn Tanjiro into a demon.

Ch. 99A Heart of Jealousy

Tanjiro refused Gyutaro’s offer to become a demon and tried to protect Nezuko, but Tengen arrived in time to save him. Tengen fought Gyutaro with his Bright Red Nichirin Blades and enraged the demon by boasting about his three wives.

  • Tanjiro refused Gyutaro’s offer and vowed to turn Nezuko back into a human.
  • Gyutaro attacked Tanjiro with Flying Blood Scythes, and Tanjiro could not defend himself after his strength gave out.
  • Tengen arrived with Zenitsu and Inosuke behind him and blocked Gyutaro’s attacks, while Tanjiro took a moment to recover.
  • Gyutaro grew jealous of Tengen’s looks and physique, then flew into a rage when Tengen said he had three wives.
  • Tengen used his Bright Red Nichirin Blades to cut apart Gyutaro’s blood blades and continued provoking him by praising his wives.

Ch. 100Assembling

Tengen fought Gyutaro while Inosuke and Zenitsu battled Daki, and Tanjiro joined the fight with Nezuko after explaining that the demons might need to be beheaded together. The battle continued with Tengen poisoned and wounded, while the group sought a way to kill both demons.

  • Gyutaro charged Tengen with blood blades as Inosuke and Zenitsu arrived and intercepted Daki’s sashes.
  • Gyutaro’s curving Blood Scythes wounded Tengen and cut part of the jeweled chain from his forehead.
  • Tengen claimed his shinobi body resisted poison and attacked Gyutaro with explosive balls and Sound Breathing, Fifth Form: String Performance.
  • Tanjiro tied his broken Nichirin Blade to his hand and decided to help Tengen with Nezuko.
  • Tanjiro warned Tengen, Zenitsu, and Inosuke that Daki and Gyutaro might have to be beheaded simultaneously to die.
