Sea God Island-Yan Shaozhe's office
Gu Qingnian and Ma Xiaotao went straight to Yan Shaozhe's office. Yan Shaozhe had already been waiting there for quite some time.
As soon as they entered, Yan Shaozhe hurried over and began examining Ma Xiaotao. Once he finished, his expression visibly faltered for a moment, and he motioned for Ma Xiaotao to leave first.
Ma Xiaotao instinctively wanted to refuse, but a look from Gu Qingnian stopped her short. Under their gazes, she could only leave reluctantly.
After confirming that Ma Xiaotao had left, Yan Shaozhe's previously mild expression instantly became impassive. He turned and sat on the sofa directly opposite Gu Qingnian, leaving the two facing each other.
Gu Qingnian's expression remained calm as he met his gaze.
Gu Qingnian sighed inwardly. He noticed that quickly? Well, it makes sense. It would've been strange if Yan Shaozhe hadn't noticed.
They sat staring at each other for a long time without speaking before Yan Shaozhe slowly said, "Can you tell me what happened between you two?"
Gu Qingnian nodded slightly, then gave him a rough account of everything that had happened after they left, merely skipping over certain details and events.
When he finished, Yan Shaozhe stiffened and said nothing, his gaze flickering uncertainly. Gu Qingnian could not tell what he was thinking and did not know what to do. They continued sitting opposite each other as the atmosphere once again reached a stalemate.
After a long while, Yan Shaozhe narrowed his eyes slightly and looked Gu Qingnian up and down, still reeling from the shock.
While examining Ma Xiaotao earlier, he had discovered that her evil fire had been suppressed almost to its deepest depths, and her Martial Soul even showed a faint tendency to evolve. This should have been wonderful news, yet
