The helicopter grew farther and farther away.
Cordis dared not waste any more time.
His feet alternated rapidly in midair.
Without fail, the pillars of blood caught him whenever he was about to fall, then lifted him up again.
Cordis moved faster and faster. Anyone who did not look closely enough
might even think he was walking through the sky.
Qiudaozi watched Cordis gradually disappear from view.
It all felt like a dream, only he was not its protagonist. Cordis was.
He was like an elf dressed in black, darting through the sky.
His long, slender, pale legs kept alternating in midair, his fair skin seeming to glow in the night.
Once the old butler was certain Cordis was no longer visible,
he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
The wealthy businessman took the Febola Stone from his pocket.
With the beautiful moonlight and stars as his witnesses, he wanted to propose to the woman he loved.
He dropped to one knee, drew the Febola Stone from his pocket, and said tenderly,
"Darling, will you marry me?"
His young mistress had clearly been frightened by the sudden attack earlier. Her delicate little face was utterly bloodless.
But when she saw the priceless gemstone before her,
a blush rose to her pale cheeks.
For that gemstone, she had spent who knew how many years staying by this old man's side.
But seeing it now, she felt as though everything had been worth it.
She reached out, trembling slightly, to take it.
Just then, the helicopter shook violently, then began careening wildly in every direction.
The old butler saw this and thought, This is bad.
He hurriedly looked toward the cockpit.
Cordis's slender yet powerful back came into view.
Bathed in moonlight, his silvery-white hair looked as though it had received the moon's blessing.
His slender waist was like a willow leaf, making anyone who glimpsed it long to possess him.
His long, straight legs seemed coated in a layer of silver light as well.
The black high heels on his feet, in particular, lent a hint of sensuality to his cool, aloof air.
Of course, if the pilot had not been lying dead in his seat, they might truly have been deceived by Cordis's beauty.
Cordis turned his head.
His azure eyes regarded the three people left in the helicopter.
Or rather, the three people about to die.
Without a pilot at the controls, the helicopter began plunging toward the ground.
The businessman and the others clung to the rails, afraid they would fall out.
Cordis remained utterly unaffected, standing perfectly upright.
Suddenly, he extended a hand toward the businessman and said,
"Could you give me the gemstone?"
Though phrased as a question, his words held such certainty that he might as well have been saying,
You have to give it to me.
But the Febola Stone was no longer in the businessman's hands.
His young mistress was clutching it tightly instead.
There was absolutely no way she would hand it over.
For the Febola Stone, she had swallowed her disgust every day, eating and sleeping with this greasy old man.
Every day!
She had lived like this for nearly four or five years!
All for the Febola Stone.
Now that she had finally gotten her hands on it, this man had gone and thrown some ridiculous banquet.
If not for that banquet, none of this would have happened.
Naturally, the businessman had no idea what his mistress truly thought, nor how much the Febola Stone meant to her.
"Darling, just give him that stupid gemstone. If you like gemstones, I'll buy you a better one later."
His words infuriated her. Clutching the gemstone with both hands, she roared,
"Do you know how much effort I put into getting this gemstone? Would I have ended up like this if not for it? Would I have stayed with you so long if not for this gemstone?"
The young mistress glared at the businessman, her eyes wide and her face full of fury.
There was no trace of her usual gentle, considerate demeanor, leaving him utterly baffled.
The businessman might not have been clever, but he was no fool.
Only now did he realize that this supposed discovery of love had always been conditional on money.
Seeing his devastated expression, his mistress could not be bothered with him.
She held the Febola Stone in front of Cordis and waved it twice.
Then, looking utterly crazed, she said,
"Want it?"
Cordis did not understand what she meant, but he still nodded obediently.
His reaction nearly made her laugh aloud.
"Want it? Then go get it."
With that, she raised the Febola Stone and hurled it out the window.
Cordis had not expected this. Without thinking, he jumped out after the Febola Stone as it flew through the window.
By then, the helicopter was only ten meters above the ground.
As she watched the helicopter hurtle toward the ground,
the young mistress glanced at the businessman, who had been scared witless, and sighed.
"I never thought I'd end up dying with you."
With a boom, the helicopter hit the ground. Its parts were smashed to pieces, along with the three people inside.
There might not even have been a scrap of flesh left to find.
The Febola Stone fell extremely fast.
On top of that, Cordis had already exhausted much of his stamina chasing the helicopter.
He no longer had the strength to chase after the Febola Stone.
His last glimpse of it was as it fell onto a patch of grass.
Cordis landed from the sky without a scratch.
The moment he touched down, he began searching for the Febola Stone.
Unfortunately, even after searching for a long time, he found no trace of it.
Cordis, who had been brimming with confidence, began to feel a little lost.
Suddenly, Chrollo's low yet exceedingly gentle voice came from behind him.
"Cordis, are you looking for this?"
Cordis whipped around and saw the Febola Stone in Chrollo's hand.
The Febola Stone shone with a beautiful blue light in Chrollo's palm.
Inside it were countless specks of light, like the stars of the Milky Way.
Cordis's eyes lit up the moment he saw the Febola Stone.
But remembering that the gemstone was in Chrollo's hands left him troubled again.
His tendency to bully the weak and fear the strong resurfaced in Chrollo's presence.
For some reason, whenever he saw Chrollo, he always grew nervous without meaning to.
He was like a schoolboy facing his teacher.
Afraid, yet full of admiration.
With his hands behind his back and his head lowered, Cordis walked up to Chrollo and said,
"Chrollo, could you give me the Febola Stone? You must have lots of gemstones. Surely you won't miss this one!"
Great, finished writing.
Another day of hard work. Not funny. Not happy at all.
