At Blazing Fire Academy, Huo Wu sat on the sofa, looking anxious.
Huo Canghai pushed the door open and entered. Huo Wu rose and looked behind him, but saw no sign of Cao De. Her expression suddenly turned cold. "Old man, where's my master?"
Seeing her like this, Huo Canghai wore a bitter expression. "Wu'er, go back and rest first."
"What did you do to my master?" Huo Wu demanded sharply, her gaze icy as her Soul Rings appeared.
Before Huo Wu could attack, Huo Canghai appeared behind her and struck her neck with a knife-hand blow. She immediately passed out.
"Wu'er... ah." Huo Canghai heaved a long sigh.
He carried Huo Wu back to her quarters and arranged for someone to guard her.
After waking, Huo Wu gradually realized how much Huo Canghai cared about her. An idea turned over in her head, and she began a hunger strike in protest.
Huo Canghai tried helplessly to coax her. "Wu'er, please eat something. This isn't good for your health."
"Where's my master?" Huo Wu asked coldly.
"He isn't your master," Huo Canghai said coldly.
Huo Wu said nothing, merely staring fixedly at him, tears glimmering in her eyes. "Are you still going to keep me under house arrest?"
The tears in Huo Wu's eyes shattered Huo Canghai's heart. He wanted to slap himself twice. Why had he snapped at her just now?
"No more house arrest, no more," Huo Canghai hurriedly said.
"Thank you," Huo Wu said with a smile.
Huo Canghai's fatherly heart took a heavy blow.
Just like that, Huo Wu got her house arrest lifted. Then she pretended to wander into every room "by chance," searching for Cao De.
But her "chance" visits were rather obvious. Everyone at Blazing Fire Academy knew Huo Wu was looking for her master.
Huo Canghai said nothing, watching her search with hope brimming in her eyes each time, only to look disappointed again.
He, too, made up his mind.
He had someone tell Huo Wu that Cao De had gone to Spirit City.
When Huo Wu heard the news, even her eyes were smiling. Looking at her smile, Huo Canghai felt a bitter jumble of emotions...
Night fell.
Huo Wu climbed out of bed and packed all the seemingly valuable things she had stolen beforehand into her Storage Soul Tool.
From a high vantage point, Huo Canghai watched Huo Wu sneak furtively toward the academy gates, tears glimmering in his eyes.
Upon reaching the gates, Huo Wu suddenly ran toward Huo Canghai's quarters.
Huo Canghai was deeply moved. She must be reluctant to leave me. He hurriedly hid beneath his covers and pretended to sleep, waiting to see what she would say to him.
The door quietly opened, and Huo Wu poked her little head inside.
Then she crept in and began rummaging through the cupboards and drawers.
"This tea looks good. I'll bring it for Master," Huo Wu murmured, taking out a bag of tea leaves.
"This teapot's nice too. Taking it, taking it."
Out of the corner of his eye, Huo Canghai watched his daughter collect things for her master.
Huo Wu approached him, still muttering, "Where is it?"
Seeing his daughter come closer, Huo Canghai hurriedly closed his eyes.
Huo Wu gently felt around on his body and soon found a Storage Soul Tool, but no matter what she tried, she couldn't open it.
Huo Wu puffed up angrily and was about to smash it.
Huo Canghai hurriedly circulated his Soul Power in secret, helping her open it.
Then he witnessed a scene that left him stunned. Huo Wu promptly took out a box containing a Soul Bone and tucked it into her own Soul Tool. "This treasure is for Master. He'll definitely praise me."
Huo Canghai wept inwardly. My daughter's grown up. Her elbows are bending outward now.
Huo Wu gently put his Soul Tool back.
Seeing his furrowed brow, she smoothed it with her hand and murmured, "I don't know why, but seeing you frown makes me unhappy."
Once his brow relaxed, Huo Wu quietly left.
Only after Huo Wu had gone far away did Huo Canghai open his eyes. He walked to the window and silently watched her sneak away.
A smile surfaced in his eyes.
Meanwhile, back with Cao De.
Sitting in the carriage, Cao De closed his eyes and once again entered that profound, elusive state of insight.
He contemplated the connection between the Thousand-Blade Demon Sword and his body when he used Soul Skills.
Time slipped by, minute by minute, second by second.
Cao De slowly opened his eyes and let out a long breath of stale air.
He summoned his Martial Soul, the Thousand-Blade Demon Sword, and drew it with a clang. Cao De's eyes slowly turned blood-red, and a purple glow gradually spread over the Demon Blade.
Then nothing else happened.
Cao De rubbed his brow and put the Demon Blade away, murmuring, "Seems like I'm heading in the right direction."
He opened the window and looked at the fish-belly white spreading across the sky. Beneath that pale dawn stood a city-Spirit City.
The carriage slowly stopped outside Spirit City. Cao De jumped down, stretched, and took several Gold Soul Coins from his System Space, tossing them to the driver. "Feed the horses well and wait for me outside the city."
"Of course, of course!" The driver's eyes narrowed with delight.
After giving his instructions, Cao De entered Spirit City.
Exquisite buildings stood everywhere, and people streamed along the streets. Most of them were Soul Masters.
Cao De headed toward Spirit Hall in the city. Since he was here, he might as well see the legendary Spirit Hall.
"Master! Master!" Repeated calls rang out behind him.
Cao De immediately turned, and Huo Wu, dressed in red, threw herself into his arms.
"Master, did you not want me anymore?" Huo Wu rubbed her head against his chest, her voice muffled.
Cao De stroked her back affectionately. "How did you get out?"
Huo Wu poked her head out of his embrace and told him everything: how she had cleverly discovered that Huo Canghai cared about her, how inspiration had struck and she had used a hunger strike, and how she had used her movement techniques to make off with so many treasures.
When she finished, she raised her little head, her expression begging for praise.
Cao De didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He patted her head. "Well done."
Huo Wu nuzzled against his chest again before finally letting go and taking her place beside him.
"Master, where are we going now?"
"To have a look at Spirit Hall," Cao De said with a smile.
Huo Wu skipped along, looking here and there. Whenever she spotted something she thought could be used to serve Cao De, she bought it without hesitation.
"Oh, Master, guess what other treasure I brought!" Huo Wu skipped over to him and asked with a smile.
"No idea." Cao De shook his head.
"Look at this." Huo Wu took a box from her storage space and started opening it.
Cao De hurried forward to stop her, but she had already opened a slight crack.
The Soul Bone's aura instantly spilled out.
Cao De took the box and patted Huo Wu's head, smiling helplessly. "Go find us a hotel. We'll be staying for a night. Once you've found one, come back here to meet me. I have something to deal with."
"Okay! I promise I'll find the best one," Huo Wu said with a smile.
"All right, off you go." Huo Wu skipped away.
Cao De had held the box for only a few seconds before several oppressive auras instantly locked onto him.
Several figures appeared immediately afterward, all wearing golden armor. One of them had a crocodile pattern on his armor.
With a single glance, Cao De recognized him as Golden Crocodile Douluo, one of Spirit Hall's Enshrined. The others' identities were easy enough to guess as well-they were also among Spirit Hall's Enshrined.
"Boy, there's a Soul Bone in that box you're holding, isn't there?" one of the Enshrined asked.
Cao De ignored him and calmly put it into his System Space.
Their expressions changed. The Soul Bone's aura had vanished-vanished completely. Even inside a Soul Tool, some of its aura should still have leaked out.
An inquisitive gleam flashed through their eyes.
Just then, a stunning woman floated over from the distance, with two Titled Douluos following behind her.
The Enshrined all looked displeased. "Your Holiness, what are you doing here?"
Before Bibi Dong could speak, Cao De spoke first. "Your Holiness, I've completed my mission."
