"My lord, the receiving frequency you wanted to send the telegram to is no longer active. The machine seems to have been destroyed," Floch told Chen Si.
Chen Si lowered his eyes slightly. He had sent Zoe another message over the same signal she had used to invite him, but it seemed she had already destroyed that telegraph machine.
"My lord, one more thing. When you passed out, someone escaped from that area. According to the soldier who witnessed it, she appeared to be a woman. I suspect she was one of the surviving Marleyan remnants!" A trace of viciousness flashed in Floch's eyes.
"Did that soldier clearly see that it was a woman?" Chen Si asked.
"Yes, my lord. That soldier is only a corporal, but he's a sniper. He had her in his scope at the time. There's absolutely no room for error!" Floch declared confidently.
Chen Si narrowed his eyes. "Bring him here."
"Yes!" Believing Chen Si wanted to question the soldier about the Marleyan remnant, Floch immediately brought him over.
"Marshal Chen Si! Colonel Floch! Corporal Anthony salutes you!" Anthony announced solemnly.
Chen Si nodded, then waved a hand at Floch.
Floch took the hint and left the room.
"Anthony, did you get a clear look at the face of the person who escaped?" Chen Si asked.
"Reporting, Marshal! I hadn't noticed her at first. I only spotted her because something on her reflected light toward me. I didn't get a very clear look! But if she stood in front of me, I'm eighty percent certain I could recognize her. I remember her build and the length of her hair very clearly!" Anthony said earnestly.
"How much time passed between hearing the disturbance and reaching me?" Chen Si asked.
"About twenty minutes!" Anthony replied.
